Astronomical teaching, orientation and aids. The present invention is an astronomical teaching, orientation and aid that carries a star map on a plate-shaped body, above this a rotatable ruler with a pivot point in the sky and a rotatable disc made of transparent mate rial, which is characterized that the garden, in addition to the signs for the stars in the size gradations according to the light, strengthen lines to represent the thirteen star fields and the constellations,
of the celestial equator and the ecliptic, as well as scales with date and right ascension graduation, a scale with the right ascension graduation of the true sun and a representation of the "Annus fietus" shows that the rotatable ruler that can be used as a star pointer has a declination graduation, and that on the rotatable disk the horizon lines with and without consideration of the refraction, the cardinal points and a scale with time division are plotted, the whole thing in such a way that apart from the determination of the rises,
The culmination and setting of the sun, moon or planets, the search for one. Location on the vault of heaven, determining the cardinal points at night, determining the time, determining the exact location of the sun for any date and determining the difference between the true and mean solar time.
In the accompanying drawing, an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown, namely: Fig. 1 is a plan view of part of the same, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section and Fig. 3 is a plan view of a section on a larger scale.
A star map is printed or glued onto a plate-shaped body 21, which expediently has the shape of a disc and is made of cardboard, metal or some other suitable material, on which the stars according to their size, i.e. according to their light intensity, are shown in the form of filled circles, the diameters of these discs being graded according to the order of magnitude of the stars.
The constellations are also shown by connecting the stars of each constellation in a known manner with fine lines. For ease of use, the starry sky is light blue, the stars are black and the sun's path or ecliptic 2 \? shown in red, that is, the colors are selected. stand out well from one another, but could also be replaced by other colors.
On the star map, the celestial equator 23 is also shown as a dashed line and some specially selected objects. like double stars, nebulae and star clusters. Fine dotted lines make it easier to find important stars, for example the five-fold connecting line of the rear wheels of the Vday in the "Big Bear" leads to the North Star (no longer included on the map section according to FIG. 1).
To facilitate orientation, the starry sky is divided into thirteen fields, n-, actually in a polar field, in six northern star fields and in six equatorial fields (according to James Jeans), of which, however, on the map according to FIG. 1 only the fields 0 'and 8 and parts of the neighboring fields 1, 2 and 9 are displayed.
This subdivision into star fields makes it possible in any case to memorize a conspicuous constellation or a known star, so that one can get a good overview of the large number of stars in the night sky.
The star map also shows four positions of the sun, namely the spring point F, which lies at the intersection of the ecliptic with the iliac equator and is the starting point of the right ascension division, the summer point S as well as the winter point outside the map section and therefore not shown, and the second Point of intersection of the ecliptic with the celestial equator, that is, the autumn point. A volume _14 ain the edge.
The star line of the map contains the twelve zodiac signs, which should not be confused with the corresponding constellations along the ecliptic, compared to which they are now shifted by around one zodiac sign. Volume 24 is followed by another volume 2.3, which provides the reading of the right ascension of the true sun for every day of the year.
Another circular strip <B> 26 </B> contains a date division with the 14th indication of the reading of each day of the year, while another band? 7 has a right: ascension division. where the right ascension corresponds to the longitude on earth and is given in hours from 0- \ 1-1. -which division the ablesttn- the sidereal time permitted.
A mark 28 on the edge of the tape denotes the "Annlis fietus" in the divisions for the date and the right ascension. That means the "Annus fictus", ie January 1st <B> 00.00 </B> begins in your point in time at which the right ascension of the central sun has the value of <B> 1811 </B> 40m, which value is plotted on the right ascension graduation.
With the Hiinelspol as the fulcrum, a rotatable ruler 30 serving as a star pointer is attached to the plate 21. that with. is equipped with a declination division, which makes it possible to determine the northern or southern deviation of a star location from the celestial equator. This division 31 is guided in such a way that readings can be carried out to the nearest degree without any effort.
Also finite the celestial pole as the fulcrum is on the plate 21 and above the ruler a cover sheet 32 made of a transparent material on which the horizon line with refraction 33 and the horizon line without refraction 34 are recorded.
In the construction of the horizon line, apart from the refraction of rays, the sun's radius is also taken into account in a total amount of 50 '(arc minutes), so that the values for sunrises and moonrises and sunsets found on the star map with the calendar values on 1 time minute match. The rotatable disk 32 bears a time division 35, which corresponds to the daily division of hours from 0-24 hours, as well as the noon line 36 with the zenith point Z.
Of the four cardinal points that are indicated outside the horizon line 33, Fix. 3 only the south direction.
The star locations and the scales are plotted with the co-ordinator, where the star map has a high level of accuracy that makes it suitable for uses for which the known star maps could not be used because of the disadvantages associated with imprecise locations and scales.
For use in Switzerland, for example, the map is designed for the mean geographical latitude of 47. But it extends to 43 south of the celestial equator, minus the narrow strip 24 for the signs of the zodiac. It is designed in equidistant azimuthal projection (with equally spaced parallel circles). The times relate to mean local time (MOZ.), While the clocks in Switzerland indicate Central European Time (CET.). For all locations west of the 15th
The CET is long enough. in front of the MON, which amount is to be deducted from the time (CET). The time thus obtained is to be used to set the date. About the differences between CET. and MOZ. a time table which is of no further interest here provides information.
The star map makes it possible to orientate yourself to the starry sky every day and every hour. It is well known that the stars orbit from east to west and reach their highest level in the south. The pole star, which is the extension of the earth's axis, is always to be found in the same place.
The one stars are always visible and lie within the circumpolar field of the map, such as the "Big Bear", the "Little Bear", the "Cepheus" etc., while others are only temporarily visible and can be adjusted using the rotatable disk 32 while all stars farther south than 43 from the celestial equator at latitude 47 north always remain invisible.
The planets or wandering stars such as Mercury, Venus, Mars etc. are not shown on the star map because their position in relation to the fixed stars is constantly changing. To determine their respective location among the latter, the right ascension on the tape 27, the rotating pointer 30 and the solar path 22. The planets describe roughly the same apparent path in the sky as the sun and their location is therefore to be found on the ecliptic .
According to the astronomical yearbook, the right ascension is determined for a certain day; if this is, for example, for the planet to be searched for 9h 58m, the ruler 30 is rotated until the pointer on the scale 27 points to the same number. At the intersection of the extended pointer line 37 with the ecliptic is the location where the planet in question can be found.
The star map can also be used to determine the visible section of the sky on every day of the year and for every hour, for what purpose the disc 32 is rotated until the relevant time division of the scale 35 is above the desired day of the scale on the tape 26 stands. When looking towards the south, the map set to the date is held in such a way that the designation "South" on the rotating disc looks down. For example, at 9:00 pm on December 10th, the constellation "whale fish" with "Mira" is in the midday line above the horizon.
When looking to the west, the designation "West" is held down and you can see that "Atair" is in the "Eagle", while in the east "Sirius" rises.
The star map can also be used to determine the rise of a star, for example "Aldebaran" in "Taurus" on October 1st. For this purpose, the disk 32 is rotated until the eastern edge of the horizon line passes through "Aldebaran", whereupon the rise time, in the present example 21h, can be read on the scale 35 of the disk on October 1st. The setting of a star in the west can be determined in the same way. For the "@lrl,: tur" in the "Bootes" on 1.
May arises when the 'western edge of the horizontal line goes through "Arctur", on May 1st, 07:00 am. To determine the culmination of a star. For example, the "Rule" in "Orion" in the south on December 10th, the disk 32 is rotated until the noon line <B> 36 </B> goes through this star :. The desired time, in the present case 4 hours, can then be read off from the 3.5 scale.
The representation of the solar right ascension or the right ascension of the true sun on the scale, the band 2: 5 of the map makes it possible to determine the true location of the sun on its orbit at any point in time of the year.
If the extension of the direction of the arrow 37 (place the ruler on the desired date on the scale of the tape 25 is ordered, the intersection of this line with the ecliptic indicates the exact location of the sun on the day in question Scale 27 lets you read the true solar time under line 37.
For the same date on the scale 20, the mean solar time is obtained on the scale 2 7, so that from these two times the difference between the true and the mean solar time, i.e. the time of an imaginary one, is at a pale speed in the celestial equator moving sun can be calculated.
The star map is suitable for both laypeople and specialists and draws; look through great accuracy and through a scientifically flawless processing. You can bezw as a pocket model with simplified tem. be produced with reduced content or as a model for the specialist astronomer with increased content and all desirable details. Also lets them; be multilingual or in different languages.
This latter feature applies in particular to explanations or gel instructions which can be printed or glued on the back of the plate 21 or added in the form of a leaflet or the like.
