Process for the production of durable druel dyes In the French patent number 827014 a process for the preparation of condensation products from aminotriazines, compounds containing alcohol groups and aldehydes BEZW. Aldehyde-releasing compounds are described, characterized in that these components are allowed to act on one another simultaneously or in any order.
A modification of this process is described in Swiss patent no. 235088, in that an aminotriazine-formaldehyde-condensation product is first used at temperatures below 50 in the presence of about 1 / 4-2112o1 of an acidic catalyst, based on aminotriazine ,
with a compound containing alcohol groups and then the reaction mixture thus obtained is heated to a higher temperature in the presence of not significantly more than about 1/2, o mol of an acidic catalyst, based on aminotriazine.
By dividing the process into two parts, it is possible to largely separate the polymerization and etherification processes that run side by side in the process of the French patent specification and therefore to control the reaction better.
When working at temperatures below 50% in the presence of relatively considerable amounts of an acidic catalyst (first process stage), products with a relatively low degree of polymerization but already well advanced etherification are obtained, which are then treated with further higher temperature and in the presence of small amounts of an acidic catalyst (second process stage) can easily be brought to the desired degree of polymerization,
with simultaneous completion of the etherification.
For the first process stage, strong mineral acids, such as hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid, are expediently used as catalysts.
For the second stage of the process, either minimal amounts of mineral acids or organic acids such as formic acid, chloroacetic acid, phthalic acid and / or before geous. Phthalic anhydride, maleic acid, respectively. Maleic anhydride,
used. If volatile acids are used, these are transferred to the distillate when the diluent is distilled off and leave behind products with an unusually low acid number. Non-volatile acids can be eliminated by neutralizing after treatment, but in most cases this is not necessary.
As already described in French Patent No. 827014, the condensation of the aminotriazine with the aldehyde under the usual conditions, that is to say preferably carried out in the heat before the action of the alcohol groups-containing compounds. The condensation product obtained can either first be isolated or else processed further directly in solution.
The action of the compounds containing alcohol groups on the aminotriazine-formaldehyde condensation product or mixture is expediently carried out in the presence of non-aqueous diluents, such as hydrocarbons.
According to the French patent mentioned, compounds containing alcohol groups are understood to mean both monoalcohols and polyalcohols and their derivatives which contain at least one free Ilydroxylgruppe, for example mono- or diglycerides of fatty acids, colophonium, etc. The aminotriazines are primarily 2.4.6.-Triamino-1..8.5-triazine, usually called melamine, in consideration.
In addition, there may be mentioned, for example: Melam, Melem, Mellon, Ammelin and Amme Lid, Formoguanamine, etc. The main aldehydes used are formaldehyde or formaldehyde-releasing compounds.
If formaldehyde compounds of aminotriazines are used, one can either use the methylol compounds or the mixtures contain methylol compounds or condensation products which have already become more polymeric due to heat treatment. Both aliphatic and hydroaromatic as well as aromatic hydrocarbons come into consideration as hydrocarbons for diluting the reaction mixture.
Benzene, toluene, Xy 10, solvent naphtha, mineral spirits, dipentene and the like may be mentioned.
If desired, plasticizers such as phthalic acid esters and the like can also be added.
The French patent mentioned at the outset also states that the compounds obtained according to the process are suitable, inter alia, as binders for printing inks.
The present invention now forms a process for the production of durable printing inks, characterized in that water-containing emulsions are used which contain condensation products of aminotriazines, alcohol group-containing compounds and aldehydes in the oily phase.
It has been found that the condensation products mentioned are very suitable for the production of printing inks in the form of water-containing emulsions.
The compounds find a particularly convenient and cheap form of this application when they are emulsified in water. They can be read in organic, water-immiscible solvents and, with or without the use of a color pigment, dispersed in water to form a stable emulsion. For finely divided, insoluble substances that are particularly difficult to emulsify, protective colloids such as gelatin, casein, agar-agar, carragheen moss and the like can also be used.
The emulsion printing inks obtained in this way are preferably suitable for paper and textile printing.
Condensation products that are made according to Swiss patent specification No. 235038 have proven particularly suitable for the purpose of the present process.
<I> Example: </I> 3600 parts of a mixed monoglyceride produced in a known manner from wood oil and linseed oil in a weight ratio of 1: 4 are dissolved in 5000 parts of 95% ethyl alcohol, then 2300 parts of hexamethylolmelamine are added and added to 2-3. Servings of 1060 'parts. a dilute sulfuric acid made up of 360 parts of concentrated sulfuric acid and 700 parts of ice is added. After 2-3 hours an emulsion was created that no longer contains any solid components.
The mixture is now heated to 40 and stirred at this temperature for a further 5 hours, then neutralized with 600 parts of chalk flour by stirring for several hours, filtered and the separated water separated off in a separating funnel. The toluene layer is now evaporated in vacuo to a weight of 6500 parts.
A light-colored, slightly viscous solution still containing about 18% toluene is obtained, which contains an etherification product of hexamethylolmelamine with a relatively low degree of polymerization.
To transfer this product to a higher polymerization stage, 2300 parts of the above solution are diluted with 850 parts of mineral spirits and 600 parts of toluene and 30 parts of phthalic anhydride are added. The mixture is then stirred for 2 hours at 95 in the absence of air, filtered and evaporated in vacuo to a solids content of about 60%. The product is of medium viscosity, light, clear, and shows a very good curing speed and drying ability in air.
If a higher viscosity is desired, the same can easily be achieved by carefully controlled heating of the product to 80-90 with thorough stirring. The product has an acid number of 8-10.
The product obtained can be used to print fabrics as follows: 115 parts of a lacquer, made from 60 parts of the product described above and 55 parts of mineral spirits, are mixed with 11.5 parts of Cibascharlach G (Schultz, Dye Tables, 7th Edition, No. 1356 ) mixed. This mixture is then ground in a porcelain color grinder.
126.5 parts of paint are obtained, which are emulsified with equal parts of water in a very fast-running emulsifying mixer.
The emulsion is then adjusted to print readiness with 12-15 parts of mineral spirits. The fabric is printed using the gravure printing process. The prints are dried briefly at about 60 and then cured for about 8 seconds at 150 or for a correspondingly longer time at a lower temperature, for example about 100. Drying can be accelerated by adding 0.5 to 1% cobalt dry matter.
Washable and rub-fast prints with a soft handle are obtained. The emulsions can also be used for wallpaper printing.
Instead of the pigment dye mentioned above, other organic pigments, such as, for example, insoluble azo dyes, metal-containing or metal-free phthalocyanines, iron oxide, ultramarine blue, chrome yellow, etc., can also be used.
