Device for cooling. The invention relates to a device for cooling parts of internal combustion engines that are subject to bending stress and consists in that the coolant is passed through pipes cast into the pressure-stressed zone, for the purpose of cooling on the one hand and reducing the thermal tensile stresses on the side facing away from the combustion gas on the other to serve the body.
The cast coils can be provided with stiffening ribs before casting. Advantageously, at least two parallel pipe strings are arranged which closely enclose openings in the body. The tubes can be embedded in rib bodies in order to avoid material accumulations on the wall sections facing away from the heated side.
Normally, machine elements which enclose a pressurized space filled with a hot medium, in particular pistons and cylinder covers of internal combustion engines, are cooled on their outside by a flow of a coolant. It is known that it is possible to bring the coolant close to the upper surface in contact with the gas through holes and thereby reduce the thermal stress.
Since these holes can only be carried out in a straight line and not in snakes or arcs, narrow limits are drawn for the application of this principle. Heat dissipation close to the surface of almost any difficult construction is achieved in the present device in that the coolant is guided in tubes which are embedded in the body in question.
Because the pipes are poured into the pressure-stressed zone of the wall, under no circumstances can tensile stresses occur between the pipes and their surroundings, which break the bond between the two.
Embodiments of the subject matter of the invention are shown schematically in the drawing.
The stress conditions occurring in the previous construction are shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. 3 shows an axial section through the working cylinder, FIG. 4 shows a section through the cover of a first example, FIG. 5 shows another piston in section III-III in FIG. 6 and FIG. 6 shows a section through line III -III of Fig. 3.
In Fig. 1, a curve a is drawn, which represents the mechanical stress on a piston crown as a function of the wall thickness. If the wall thickness is large, the mechanical stress is small. The curve ai is obtained with the same piston dimensions and increased pressure. b is the thermal stress. It increases with increasing wall thickness and depends on the temperatures on both sides of the piston crown.
The resulting stress is shown by the curve c, which is equal to the sum of the curves a and b. From the curve ei, which is equal to the sum of the curves a and b is, it can be seen that higher pressure on the piston crown results in higher stresses.
In curves c and ei, a minimum of the total (resulting) stress occurs at a certain wall thickness.
If the pressure is increased and the wall thickness is increased at the same time, so that the mechanical stress remains the same, curve a remains unchanged (FIG. 2). The curve b shifts due to the greater temperature drop in the now thicker wall to bi, i.e. H. runs steeper. The resulting new curve ei is in turn higher than the resulting curve c.
As is also the case, a higher mechanical or thermal load corresponds to a greater resulting stress. This stress increases with the diameter, so that the usual piston design is limited by the material properties to certain diameter and loading limits.
In the embodiment according to the invention (Fig. 3 and 4), the cylinder liner 1 is connected to inlet ducts 2 for the inlet air and to outlet ducts 3 for the exhaust gases. The piston 4 is shown in the inner dead center position. On the cylinder barrel 1 Zy the cover 5 is arranged, which is connected to the jacket 8, 9 by a ring 6 and screws 7.
The fuel valve 10 and the starter valve 11 are provided in the cover 5. The push rod 12 is attached to a piston pin 13. A cooling space is arranged between the insert cylinder 1 and the jacket 8 or 9, the coolant being introduced into 26 and discharged again through the line 27. A coolant line 14 is provided for cooling the cylinder cover 5, the coolant being guided, for example, through pipes 15 cast in the pressure-stressed zone.
This coolant line can consist of two parallel pipe runs, for. B. coils 16 and 17 exist, so that the openings for the starting valve 11 and the openings for the fuel valve 10 are tightly enclosed. The coolant is discharged through line 18.
For the piston 4, the cooling tubes 20 are also poured into the pressure-stressed zone, the coolant being fed through a trombone tube 21, emptied through the outlet line 22 into the space 23 and discharged through the trombone tube 24.
Instead of a circular pipe profile, flattened pipe profiles can also be used, whereby the individual pipe strands can be arranged closer and the length of the path through which the heat flow flows is reduced. The coils 15 and 20 can also be provided with stiffening ribs 34 to facilitate the pouring, which are also mostly within the pressure-loaded zone.
In Fig. 5, another example is Darge provides. The coolant is introduced through the trumpet tubes, not shown, and through the line 30, and is drained through the line 31. However, the coolant can also be introduced through the tubes 31 and discharged through the tube 30. Spacers 33 are attached between the tubes 20 in order to give the tube coils 20 sufficient strength during pouring. The piston head itself is designed as a rib body, e.g. B. by means of cross ribs 34, designed to avoid 14 accumulations of material on the wall sections 35 facing away from the heated side.
The coils 15 and 20 can be treated with sandblasting before pouring in order to achieve a metallic connection between the pipe and the casting. If necessary, the pipes can also be evacuated or filled with an inert gas, e.g. B. nitrogen, are filled to avoid scaling phenomena when pouring.
