Description

Process for reducing the corrosion of metals by acidic liquids. It is known that acidic liquids, for example acidic baths that are used for pickling metals, zuzu set organic substances that prevent the acid from attacking metals, but the actual task of the acids, in the case of pickling, the removal of the on the Surface of the metal adhering coatings of metal compounds, do not affect

For example, residues from tar distillation, hexamethylenetetramine, thiourea, aldehydes, condensation products of thioureas with aldehydes or heterocyclic nitrogen-oxygen compounds have been used for saving pickles.

It has now been found that alcohols of the acetylene series, e.g. B. propargyl alcohol and its homologues, such as butyn-2-ol-1, butyn-3-ol-2 and 2-methylbutyn-3-ol-2, 2-phenylbutyn-3-ol-2, also butyn-2 -diol-1,4 and its homologues, such as hexyne-3-diol-2,5 and 2,5-dimethylhegin-3-diol-2,5, are particularly suitable for preventing the corrosion of metals by acids or at least to reduce it. The inhibitory effect of such alcohols is not greater than that of the sulphides and sulphoxides already recommended for the same purpose (see DRP.

No. 579864 and 579955), but there are valuable advantages associated with the water solubility of the alcohols of the acetylene series for the purpose under consideration here. This is because you can save on insoluble compounds, which include the well-known sulfides and sulfoxides, for better distribution often considered necessary wetting agents.

The water-insoluble pickling agents adhere after: the treatment stubbornly on the metal surface, whereas the acetylene alcohols remain practically completely dissolved in the pickling liquor,

so that you can use it multiple times. and also keeps the treated metal piece completely clean by simply rinsing it.

With the addition of such alcohols of the acetylene series, for example, aluminum, zinc, iron and their alloys can be protected against attack by a wide variety of acids. The protective effect depends on the strength of the acid, the temperature and the amount of acetylene alcohol added.

The advantageous effect of the acetylene alcohols is illustrated by the example below.

Strips of sheet iron were exposed for 1 hour at 40 to the attack of an aqueous hydrochloric acid with a specific gravity of 1.109, each of which was provided with the following additives: 1. without addition, 2. with 1% propargyl alcohol, 3. with 1% butyne-2- diol-1,4. After the completion of the treatment, the weight loss of the iron sheets was determined. Without addition it was 80 mg / cm2, with the addition of butyne-2-diol-1,4 it was below 2 mg / cm2 and with the addition of propargyl alcohol it was a little bad 0.5 mg, 1 cm ".
