Method and device for the production of sleeves. The invention relates to a method and a device for producing sleeves from solid starting pieces.
It has hitherto been customary to produce such sleeves, for example steel rivets, by drilling out the central opening.
From these known methods, the one according to the present invention differs in that the workpiece is placed in a die and the material in the center of the piece is pressed out in the axial direction by a non-rotating, lubricated, conical punch, where part of the material is from The starting piece is separated and another part of the same is displaced in the axial direction.
A device according to the invention for carrying out this method is characterized by means for lubricating the ram, which have a shaft which is guided in the movable press head so that it can swing around an axis parallel to the direction of movement of the press head, a torsion spring acting on the shaft , from which a mandrel provided with an arm protrudes, which arm carries a lubricating device which cooperates with the punch, further characterized by a cam which is arranged on the bed of the press and which cooperates with the tab protruding from the shaft,
to rotate the shaft against the action of the torsion spring and to remove the lubricator from the punch when the press head performs its work stroke.
The invention will now be explained with reference to the accompanying drawing. This shows: FIG. 1 a longitudinal section through a sleeve produced according to the method according to the invention.
FIG. 2 is a longitudinal section through a body from which the sleeve shown in FIG. 1 is produced. Fig. 3 is a partial longitudinal section, which represents the tools for producing the sleeve and shows how the body presented in Fig. 2 is converted to the sleeve according to FIG.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the full starting body which is used in a second and a third embodiment of the method according to the invention.
5 is a partial longitudinal section through an embodiment of a device for carrying out the method according to the invention, which shows the position of the tools during the execution of the first method stage of the second possible embodiment.
Fig. 6 is a longitudinal section showing the position of the tools in the execution of the second stage of the second embodiment of the invention. This figure also serves to explain the third embodiment of the method according to the invention.
Fig. 7 is a view, with individual parts in section, of an embodiment of a device for performing the method according to the invention.
Fig. 8 is a side view showing the lubricating device.
FIG. 9 is a plan view of Fiel o. FIG. 10 is a section along line 10-10 of FIG. 9.
1-3 serve to explain the first embodiment of the method according to the present invention. In this embodiment, an output piece 10 provided with a head is provided. The same is inserted into a die 11 and machined with a conical non-rotating punch 12 which is attached to the head 13 of a press or similar machine.
When the thinner end of the punch 12 penetrates the head of the output piece 10, some of the metal is ejected along the axis of the output piece 10. The metal is first pushed upwards and the head of the sleeve is strengthened. Only then does a piercing take place, with the material lying under the stamp being pressed downwards.
The metal displaced as a result of the increasing punch diameter will likely flow in both directions in the longitudinal direction of the sleeve.
In this embodiment, punch 12 is long enough to cause piercing. The ejected metal falls through an axial opening 14 of an ejector 15.
A second embodiment of the method according to the invention will be explained with reference to FIGS. 4, 5 and 6. In this embodiment, a full output piece 19 is used, which is a section of a rod and has no head. This starting piece is cut off from a rod and suitably annealed before punching. The starting piece 19 is brought into the die 11 and lies on the upper end of the ejector 20.
Output piece 19 is subjected to the action of the conical non-rotating punch 21, which is movable in the axial direction bar. The punch 21 is disposed in a punch head 28 and is operated by a press or similar machine. The head 28 is provided with an annular recess 23 around the upper end of the punch 21. When the punch head 28 and punch 21 are moved downwards, a recess is formed in the full output piece 19.
The displaced metal is pushed upwards and fills the recess 23, so that a head is formed on the workpiece. At the same time, a recess extending in the axial direction is formed in the workpiece. This recess penetrates, but not the whole workpiece, which below, as shown in FIG. 5, is closed sen.
After this first stage of the process, the ejector 20 is actuated and the workpiece, which has only been partially produced, is placed in another die 25 (FIG. 6). This die 25 is seen with a hollow ejector 15 ver.
The partially completed workpiece is now processed by means of the punch 27, which is arranged on a head 42 which can be moved up and down. The punch 27 is long enough to penetrate the entire workpiece, so that a continuous conical opening is created in the same. The punched-out material falls down through the hollow ejector 15. The conical boundary surfaces of the punch 27 push out a small part of the material of the work piece, which is located at the lower end of the same, with the metal flowing in the longitudinal direction. After this process stage, head 42 and punch 27 are moved upwards, simultaneously with the ejector 15, which thereby ejects the finished sleeve.
According to a third embodiment of the method according to the invention (see FIGS. 4 and 6), a full starting piece 19 is assumed, which is introduced into a die 25 and processed by means of a non-rotating conical punch 27. Head 42 is provided with an annular recess 23 and when head 42 and punch 27 are moved downwards, part of the metal which is in the center of the output piece is first pushed upwards so that a head is formed. The rest of the metal is pressed down and through the hollow thrower 15 from.
This metal has a diameter which corresponds to that of the lower, thinner end of the punch 27. More metal from the starting piece is displaced by the conical casing of the tool, so that a conical, central opening is formed.
After completion of this process step head 42 and punch 27 are moved up and ejector 15 actuated to remove the sleeve produced.
It should be noted that a conical punch is used in all three embodiments of the method and a conical bore is made in the sleeve.
Any suitable means can be provided for operating the ejector. One embodiment is shown in FIG. In this case, the head 43 slides on guide rods 29. It is provided with bushings 30 which have stop surfaces 31. The die 25 is arranged in a Ge lowering plate 32 which is located in a recess of the upper surface of the plate 33 Ver. Plate 33, in turn, is supported by the bridge-shaped bed 34. Under the bed 34 a plate 35 is arranged, which is supported by a pair of long screws 36, the heads 37 of which rest on the stop surfaces 31.
It can be seen that the plate 33 is provided with an opening 38 in which the upper part 39 of the ejector 15 can slide. The ejector is provided with a flange 40 which can be moved in a recess 41 on the underside of the plate 33.
The arrangement is .so that when the cap 43 moves downwards for the purpose of punching and piercing the workpiece, the workpiece is firmly supported on the upper end of the ejector.
When the head 43 moves upwards after the working stroke, the heads 37 are carried along by the stop surfaces 31 and the plate 35 is thereby lifted so that the ejector is also lifted and the finished sleeve is removed from the die 25 . The invention can in particular be used to manufacture the sleeve or steel rivets described.
But it can also be made by the same method and with similar devices with thread ver provided sleeves or hollow bases, where = the thread is attached after the manufacture of the sleeves in the prescribed manner.
The sleeves, steel bases or hollow rivets can preferably be made of light metal. But the invention is in no way limited to these metals.
It is important that the punch is lubricated before each working stroke and since this is done automatically, the head 43 of the press is provided with a shaft 44, as can be seen in FIGS. 8-10. Shaft 44 has a portion 45 of reduced diameter which is attached in a tab on head 43, in such a way that shaft 44 can rotate about an axis parallel to the direction of movement of the head.
Furthermore, a torsion spring 46 is arranged around the shaft 44. One end of the spring is attached to head 43 at 47 and the other end to shaft 44 at 48. The torsion spring strives to bring the shaft into the position shown in solid lines in Fig. 10 Darge.
A mandrel 49 protrudes outward from the shaft 44 so that it can come into contact with a Noelke 50 that is attached to the bed 51 on the machine. The arrangement is such that when head 43 executes a working stroke, mandrel 49 strikes cam 50 and rotates shaft 44 against the action of spring 46, and thereby an arm 52 that drives lubricating device 53 deceiving, in the dash-dotted lines (Fig. 9) is asked position, whereby the stamp can move down and perform the work stroke.
The lubricating device consists, for example, of an oil container 54 which carries a U-shaped member 55 made of oil-absorbent material. Member 55 protrudes upward from the oil container and encompasses the stem 27.
