Chronograph timepiece. The object of the present invention is a chronograph timepiece. This part -is characterized by a differential, one of the sun wheels of which is connected to the movement of the part and of which the axis carrying the planet gears.
drives the organ, indicator of the chronograph and by a control device which makes it possible to temporarily stop either the second sun wheel of the differential, or the aforementioned axis, depending on whether the starting or stopping is desired of said indicator member.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example and in part, one embodiment of the object of the present invention.
Fig. 1 in -is a plan view and FIG. 2, a section through II-II of fig. 1. In these figures, 1 -is a pinion, the axis of which carries one of the members, indicators of the timepiece, for example the seconds hand. On this pinion -is fixed a wheel 2, which transmits its movement to an intermediate wheel S. The ratio between 2 and 3 is 1: 1.
On the same axis as 3 is fixed a wheel 4 meshing with another wheel 5 mounted freely on the main axis 6, of the differential. The ratio between 4 and 5 is 2: 1. Two sun wheels 7 and 8 rotate freely on the main axis of the differential 6, engaged with two planetary gears 9 and 10, the first of which, 7, is integral with the wheel 5. .
The planetary gears rotate freely between two bridges 11 and 12, which are attached to one. disc 13 @ chased .on the differential axis 6. A -came 14 is also integral with the differential axis 6, to which is fixed the chronograph hand 6 ,, .. On an axis 15 are mounted. freely two control levers 16 and 17 working respectively with the disc 8a integral with the sun wheel 8 and with the disc 13.
In addition, on this same axis -is freely mounted a hammer 18 working with the chronograph core.
These different levers are controlled by a button 19 on the axis of which three cams 20, 21 and M. are fixed. These cams respectively control the two levers 16 and 17 and the hammer 18. A needle 2'3, attached to button 19, indicates the situation of the mechanism which can be in three different positions, namely: On (111), Off (ri) and reset (0).
The two positions "On" and "Off" are fixed by means of a jumper not shown, while the position "miee to zero" (0) is reached only by turning knob 19 by hand, but immediately after the button 19 has been released, under the effect of a spring, the needle 23 and therefore the whole cam system returns to "Stop".
This mechanism works as follows: The intermediate wheels 2, 3, 4 and 5 are always in gear and rotate at a constant speed in a determined direction. The wheel 5 drives, in its movement, the solar wheel 7, to which it is integral, at a speed double the speed of pinion 1.
If, now, the lever 17 prevents the disc 13 from moving, the integral wheel 7 will turn, by means of two planetary gears 9 and 10, the sun wheel 8, as well as the disc 8a which is integral with it. This wheel turning freely, the whole system will roll, but the axle of the differential 6 will be at rest, and consequently the needle which it carries will be stopped.
By turning the knob 19 in such a way that the needle 23 comes opposite "On", the lever 17 will be released from the disc 13; and the lever 16- will engage against the disc 8a of the sun wheel 8, stopping the latter. Immediately the axis of the differential 6 starts to rotate with a speed two times lower than that of the sun wheel 7, therefore at the same speed and in the same direction as the pinion 1.
When the period to be chronographed is finished, the knob 19 is turned in such a way that the hand 23 comes to face "Stop", and the functions continue as described above.
If now we want to reset the mechanism to zero, we turn the knob 19 until the hand 23 comes to face zero; by doing this, we move aside the two levers 16 -and 17 and we operate the hammer 18 which presses on the chronograph core 14 and brings it back to zero, as well as the axis 6 which is integral with it, and the needle 6; y fixed on this axis.
It will be easily understood that during this time the main axis of the differential is. completely free to move either to the right or to the left, since the disc of the planetary axle 13 and the disc integral 8. of the wheel 8 are free.
The aforementioned construction makes it possible to remove the special components of the usual chronographs, column wheels, rockers and toothed wheels, pointed and to replace them by usual wheels and pinions and by cams, which constitutes a great simplification. The teeth of these latter wheels may have ordinary cuts with epicyclic or involute profile, so that the movement transmitted to the chronograph hand $ 6 will be the exact image of the movement of pinion 1.
Finally, wheels 2, 3, 4 and 5 are always in gear and the motor barrel will always be subjected to approximately the same load, whether the chronograph hand is running or it is. stopped.
