Process for the preparation of a capillary active agent. It has been found that a capillary-active agent that can be used especially in textile treatment is obtained if an alkyl-o-cresol mixture, as it is obtainable by condensation of o-nosol with about 12-14 carbon atoms, is used Olefin mixture,
represented by dehydration of alcohols with 6 and 7 carbon atoms originating from the reduction of carbon oxide or carbon oxide-containing gases and dimerization of the olefins obtained with 6 and 7 carbon atoms, treated with ethylene ogyd in the presence of a catalytically active agent that the end product is water soluble.
Example 1: 294 parts by weight of a mixture of alkyl-o-cresols, the alkyl radicals of which contain 12-14 carbon atoms and which was prepared according to the above information, are mixed with 0.5-1 part by weight of caustic soda powder sets and heated to 120-130 0 in vacuo or while passing nitrogen through until the melt is anhydrous. Then, with cooling, ethylene oxide is passed on or into the melt, the temperature between 160 0 and 180 0 being kept. After taking up about 660 to 700 parts by weight of ethylene oxide, the reaction is interrupted.
After cooling, the product obtained is an oily, viscous, blackish-brownish colored mass. This is soluble in water, the solutions foam strongly. They are resistant to electrolytes and show excellent wetting and cleaning properties. Example 2: 294 parts by weight of the alkyl-o-cresol-misohes according to Example 1 are distilled with superheated steam, for. B. after Wecker, subjected until about 10% volatile components have passed.
The product treated in this way is mixed here with 15 parts by weight of 10% sodium methoxide solution in methanol and warmed to 120-130 ° in vacuo or while passing through a stream of nitrogen until the melt does not contain any methanol contains more. Then about 320 parts by weight of ethylene oxide, as described in Example 1, are brought into action. The result is an oily product which is soluble in cold water and which emulsifies mineral oils and neutral, fatty oils excellently.
Example 3: 294 parts by weight of the alkyl-o-cresol mixture according to example 1 are mixed with 7 parts by weight of 40% sodium hydroxide solution and heated to 120-130 in a vacuum or while passing nitrogen through until most of the water has evaporated. Nran then allows around 900 parts by weight of ethylene oxide to take effect at 170-190 ° C and receives a slightly brown-colored, fat-like solidifying product. It is soluble in water and is used in particular to emulsify oleic acid.
EXAMPLE A water-soluble, slightly colored product of waxy consistency is obtained according to Example 3 if about 1500 parts by weight of ethylene oxide are brought into effect. The product is used to break emulsions of all kinds, e.g. B. from Rolrerdölernulsiorren.
