Description
Fig. 5 zeigt keilartig ineinandergreifende Enden.
Light alloy wheel rim and method of making the same. The connection of the two ends of a light alloy wheel rim presents particular difficulties, since the connection point must have a high resistance to impacts and other stresses, but any unevenness or thickening of the connection point should be avoided. The connections by rivets, in which a thickening of the connection point cannot be avoided, and unevenness by the rivet heads have not been satisfied.
In the use of light metal hollow rims, in which a piece of lining is inserted into the ends to be connected, the desired solution cannot be seen either, since light metal hollow profiles do not have the same strength as light metal solid profiles.
The invention relates to a light metal wheel rim and a method for producing the same position. The process for connecting the ends of a light alloy wheel rim consists in joining the ends by means of a melting process after the rim has been rounded. As a fusible link coming into question here, both brazing and autogenous respectively. electrical welding. Of course, a combined gas melting and electrical welding process can also be used.
For the application of the present method, rims made of an alloy of aluminum with 2.5-4.170 magnesium are best suited, because such an alloy has a relatively high strength even in the soft-annealed condition. It has been shown that the inventive Connection can achieve an extremely high strength, which is completely up to the high stresses in use.
The two rim ends to be connected can be cut transversely to the longitudinal direction of the wheel rim and simply butt-welded after rounding. For the use of previous welding and brazing processes, with a view to achieving the greatest possible strength of the connection point, it is particularly advantageous not to simply cut off the ends of the rim to be connected transversely to the longitudinal direction, but rather one from the cross section different cut, e.g.
B. a bevel cut, wedge cut, zigzag cut, dovetail-like or in any curve Verlau Fenden cut for the joint to be connected surfaces of the rim ends to choose.
In the drawing, several Ausfüh approximately examples of the wheel rim are shown, which suitably running abutment surfaces of the two rim ends to be connected be, with Fig. 1 the cross-sectional profile of a light metal wheel rim and the other FIGS. 2 to 7 show different execution forms of connection points in view .
For example, FIGS. 2 to 4 show dovetail-like interlocking ends, wherein in FIG. in contrast to FIGS. 3 and 4, sharp corners are avoided. In Fig. 3 one rim end is provided with an ordinary dovetail tongue and the other rim end with the corresponding dovetail recess. In Fig. 4, however, the two ends are provided with a dovetail recess, wel che with a corresponding dovetail tongues forming connector in engagement. Fig. 5 shows wedge-like interlocking ends.
In Fig. 6 the two rim ends meet in an oblique section. In the same figure, dashed lines indicate that the ends can also engage in one another in a Z-like manner. 7 shows rim ends abutting one another with reinforcement by insert edge pieces. By such different cross-section melting connection seams a special loading strength of the junction he aims, which can withstand the high stresses occurring in use. The fusion connection, which unites the joints, is flush with the surfaces in all versions, which means that it does not protrude outward anywhere.
Once the welding technology has advanced, resp. if it provides a higher degree of strength, it will suffice if the rim ends are only butt welded to cinander without reinforcement by insert edge pieces.
In general it is in. With regard to the thickness of the profiles for bicycle rims, it is not necessary that the welding edges have been chamfered. However, chamfering can prove advantageous in the case of rims for motorcycles.
