Fig. 9 en montre une variante.
Le moyeu décrit est ainsi beaucoup plus robuste que les appareils connus. Grâce au faible eneombtement diamétral des roule ments à aiguilles, les satellites peuvent avoir une forte denture assurant une résistance bien supérieure à celle qu'on a pu obtenir jusqu'ici alors que l'on ne pouvait dépasser un module de 0,7 .à 0,8;
Shift and speed hub for cycles. Known speed-changing hubs for cycles have the drawback of being relatively delicate and of not being able, for example, to adapt to tandems precisely because of their lack of robustness. We could obviously increase the strength of the parts by increasing the diameter of the hub, but then the construction is considerably heavier and we know that in terms of cycles we always seek the greatest possible lightness.
The known hubs include a planet carrier with four fine toothed planet wheels mounted on ball bearings, the plain bearings used in old constructions having been abandoned because of the power losses which they entail. The satellite carrier is equipped with:
four lateral engagement teeth corresponding to high speed, these teeth being arranged so that the planet earth shafts are housed in the empty spaces between the teeth, the only possible solution for reducing the bulk to a minimum.
To strengthen the mechanism, no one could think of adopting stronger teeth for the planet gears, because then the hollows of the teeth would have become so deep that there would not have been enough material left between the bore, necessarily large enough in diameter, the ball bearing and the bottom of the teeth.
It was also recognized that the number of engagement teeth at high speed was insufficient, but it could not be increased either, because due to the location of the satellite shafts it would have been necessary to adopt a multiple number of four, eight for example, and with eight teeth one could not already leave sufficient voids for the passage of the satellite shafts without adopting extremely fine and fragile teeth.
On the other hand, one could neither increase the number of satellites due to the lack of available space, nor decrease it since four satellites were already barely sufficient to transmit the load.
Finally, when we tried to combine a brake with the gear change mechanism, we ended up with devices so little progressive that the braking twisted the hub and quickly put the gear trains out of use.
In addition, since the gearshift hubs had to be extensively lubricated, it was heretofore inevitable that oil would flow onto the friction parts and interfere with operation.
On the contrary, the invention makes it possible to completely remedy the above defects. The hub which is the subject of it is characterized in that it comprises three planets cut with the Stub module 1.25 with a pressure angle of 20 and carried by needle bearings, the high-speed engagement teeth being at number six.
The hub according to the invention may further comprise a lateral drum brake, with a single brake segment extending over more than three quarters of the periphery, the ends of said segment being relatively rigid, while its central part is relatively elastic. .
The appended drawing, given by way of example, will give a better understanding of the invention, the characteristics which it presents and the advantages which it is likely to provide: FIG. 1 is a general side view with a half section.
Fig. 2 to 4 are dirty cross sections following IL-II, III-III and IV-IV respectively (fis. 1).
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the planet carrier.
Fig. 6 is an end view.
Fig. 7 is a large-scale sectional view of a satellite with its bearing and its shaft. Fig. 8 is a side view of the semi-rigid brake shoe.
Fig. 9 shows a variant thereof.
Fig. 10 to 12 are explanatory diagrams of the operation of the semi-rigid brake shoe. The hub shown fis, 1 comprises a shaft 1 fixed by nuts 2 and 3 to the frame 4 of the cycle.
This shaft 1 carries a fixed central pinion 5 integrally with it, and it carries a drive sleeve 6 mounted on ball bearings 7 and 8, said sleeve being intended to receive the usual chain sprocket (s).
The hub also comprises a casing of the actual hub 9 intended to carry the wheel; this housing 9 is mounted on bearings. balls 10 and 11 thanks to which it is thus free to turn on the shaft 1.
The shaft 1 still carries, mounted on it in a sliding manner, a ring 12 with counter-nut 13, this eneemble entrafnant longitudi nalement a carrier-eatellite 14 whose fis.
5 shows the detail. This planet carrier carries three shafts 15 on which three planet wheels 16 are mounted by means of needle bearings 17.
As can be seen from the fis. 1, the planet wheels 16 are engaged with the pinion 5 and with a ring gear 18 internally toothed and carried by a support 19 which can rotate on the planet carrier 14, but axially secured to the latter by virtue of an end ring 20.
The support 19, of cylindrical shape, slides with gentle friction inside the casing 9.
As shown fis. 5 and 6, the planet carrier 14 is provided with six lateral engagement teeth 21 and the three holes 22, intended to receive the planet gear shafts 15,
are arranged in three of the six spaces between the successive teeth 21. As is clearly understood by the fis. 1, the teeth 21 are intended to cooperate with six heavy teeth 23 provided at the end of the drive sleeve 6.
The planet carrier 14 is, Acore provided, at its end opposite to that carrying the teeth 21, with a cylindrical toothing 24 in ratchet teeth which, at the low speed position,
comes to cooperate with res out pawls 25 mounted on pivots 26 carried by the housing 9 (Fig. 1 and 2).
The drive sleeve 6 also has ratchet toothing 27 (fis. 1 and 4) which is constantly engaged with res out pawls 28 mounted on pivots 29 carried by an extension of the support 19.
The housing 9 also has ratchet teeth 30, arranged on its internal face, this toothing being engaged, at high and medium speed positions, with spring pawls 31 also pivotally mounted on the support. 19 (fig. 1 and 4).
The shaft 1 is hollow and contains the usual control devices comprising a transverse pin 32 passing through an elongated window 33 of said shaft 1 and entering into indentations, not shown, of the ring 12 to control the axial position of the latter. ci along the shaft 1. The stud 32 is itself controlled by a chain 34 against the action of a spring de.rappel 35.
Pinion 5, planet gears 16 and crown 18 are cut to the 1.25 Stub module with a pressure angle of 20 (fig. 7).
On the side of the hub 9 is fixed a brake drum 36 closed by a frozen plate 37 carried by the shaft 1. The plate 37 carries a pivot 38 (fig. 8) and a shaft 39 provided with a nose of 'actuation 40. The shaft 39 is driven by a suitable control device of the usual type, not shown. A brake segment 41, extending over more than three quarters of circumference, is mounted on the pivot 38 by one of its ends, while the other abuts against the nose 40 under the action -d 'a spring 43.
Segment 41 has a T, shaped section as clearly shown in fig. 1, and it is provided with a friction lining 42.
When the shaft 39 is rotated, the nose 40 first presses against the drum 36 the part at the segment 41 closest to the pivot 38, as shown in fig. 10, segment 41 then acts as a rigid body. When the braking is increased, the segment 41 opens elastically approximately to the right of its median part where the section is smaller, and the pressure surface progressively extends from the pivot 38 to the other end of the segment 41 (fig. 11 and 12).
In the variant of fig. 9, the brake shoe comprises an elastic band 41a, made of steel for example, reinforced by two end pieces 41b with a T section. The operation remains the same as before.
Thanks to the relative stiffness of the ring, no blocking can occur, although the direction of rotation indicated by arrow 44 (fig. 8) is such that the brake reaction tends to increase the pressure of the ring against the ring. drum.
The housing 9 of the hub is extended inside the drum by a cylindrical part 45 terminated by a projecting edge 46 with a sharp edge which rotates inside a small recess 47 provided in the center of the plate 37, this chamber being provided at the bottom with a drain opening 48.
The excess oil flowing back from the hub necessarily flows along the ridge of the edge 46 and from there falls into the recess 47 from where it is discharged directly at 48 without being able at any time to lubricate the rubbing surfaces. .
The hub described is thus much more robust than the known devices. Thanks to the low diametrical overlap of the needle bearings, the planet gears can have a strong toothing ensuring a resistance much higher than that which has been obtained hitherto when one could not exceed a modulus of 0.7. 0.8;
this makes it possible to reduce the number of satellites to only three and this reduction in turn makes it possible to provide six teeth for engaging the high speed, ensuring good transmission of the force, without risk of breakage or deformation. The progressive brake cannot distort the mechanism of the gear trains. On the other hand, these can be lubricated as much as desired without risk of damaging the brake.
