Fig. 1 stellt schematisch eine verein fachte Anordnung dar, bei der aus Gründen der Übersichtlichkeit :die Relaiseinrichtungen fortgelassen sind; Fig. 2 veranschaulicht eine praktische Ausführungsform der Anord nung nach Fig. 1 und Fig. 3 veransohau- licht eine weitere Ausführungsform des Ge genstandes der Erfindung; Fig. 4 stellt eine Variante eines Teils der Anordnung von Fig. 3 dar;
EMI0004.0069
proportional ist.
Obgleich die drei Teile der elektrischen Einrichtung nicht unabhängig voneinander sind, trifft es zur Hauptsache doch zu, 1. dass der X mit P verbindende Konden sator 7 einen zu 0 proportionalen Potential- wert liefert, 2. dass die Hinzufügung des Wi derstandes 12;
einen Proportionalwert zu
EMI0004.0079

Device for the automatic regulation of a variable physical quantity. The present invention relates to a device for automatic Re gelation of variable sizes, for. B. Tem temperature or pressure, which comprises a control element which is operated by a reversible auxiliary motor, the direction of movement of which is controlled by a relay system according to the changes in the size to be regulated.
The main purpose of the invention is to provide a device in which mainly electrical devices are used.
In known devices for the self-acting regulation of variable variables, which work with the aid of a relay, the relay is sensitive to changes in the position of the device showing the value of the variable to be controlled.
This leads to the size oscillating around its desired value, the extent of which depends on the "delay between setting the compensating means, e.g. a steam valve, and the associated effect.
Even if so-called return means are provided in order to inhibit the movement of the compensating means, the oscillations of the variable to be controlled are acceptable.
In the subject of the present invention, the relay is now: operated by contact means that include a current-sensitive member, which member belongs to a circuit that contains an electron tube, the grid of which he holds a potential that is derived from a point P, which belongs to an electrical system, which point P,
Q and g, of which the points P and Q via a resistor, while the points P and X are connected to one another via a capacitor, the point Q being given a predetermined potential, while the point X is also given a control - organ associated coupling device. a potential is granted,
which is so dependent on the position of the control organ that it is approximately proportional to: the corresponding compensatory effect caused by the control organ. The compensation effect is to be understood as the effect of the control organ, which seeks to compensate for every deviation: of the variable to be controlled from its desired value.
The invention is explained in more detail with reference to the drawing, for example in the case of devices for temperature control.
Fig. 1 schematically shows a simplified arrangement in which, for the sake of clarity: the relay devices are omitted; FIG. 2 illustrates a practical embodiment of the arrangement according to FIG. 1 and FIG. 3 shows a further embodiment of the subject matter of the invention; Fig. 4 shows a variant of part of the arrangement of Fig. 3;
Fig. 5 shows schematically a white direct embodiment of the invention, which is understood in connection with FIG.
According to Fig. 1, a heating means, for. B. steam, in .ein a system whose temperature is to be regulated, passed through a pipe 1 with control valve 2 (control element), which valve is operated by a motor with reduction gear, both not shown. The position indicator of the valve 2 carries a wheel 3 which is driven when the valve is actuated by the motor.
A second wheel 4, coaxial with wheel 3, is connected to wheel 3 by an adjustable pin and slot device so that a small, previously determined, free relative movement of the two wheels or disks is allowed.
This free movement (angle a) is set in such a way that it corresponds to the backlash between the fastening point: the valve position pointer and the valve itself, so that no movement of the wheel 4 occurs until the valve itself is displaced. The wheel 4 carries the resistor 5 of a potentiometer system. In this way, a fixed contact arm 6 corresponding to the above-mentioned point X is given a potential:
which depends on the position of the valve 2 in such a way that it is approximately proportional to the corresponding compensating effect caused by: the valve.
The contact arm 6 is connected to one plate: of the capacitor 7, the other plate of which is connected via resistors 8 and 9 to an indicator 10 for the potential at point P, which indicator is in the current-sensitive element M .; causes a shift. The point P is itself connected to one plate of a capacitor 11, the other plate of which is connected to a point Y, the potential of which is kept constant, for example grounded.
From the connection point, the resistors 8 and 9, another resistor 12 branches off to the point Q, at which the potential is held by means of a potentiometer 13 at a value corresponding to the desired temperature. The deviation of the temperature from its desired value is indicated by the organ M ,. displays.
Means can be provided to change the potential at Q in accordance with any behavior of the quantity under control.
If, for example, the temperature should rise evenly over time, point Q can define the shape. assume a contact that can move across the resistor 13 and is driven by an electric motor running at a constant speed through a reduction gear.
According to FIG. 2, the thermometer arm 20 carries a light aluminum extension 21 at its insulated end, with which a platinum wire 22 is connected, which plays in a narrow gap between two silver contacts 23, 24. The latter are carried by a synthetic resin block 25 with an internal thread, in which a spindle 26 engages.
When the .spindel is rotated, the contact block 25, which is guided through a pin 27 and a vertical slot in the guide 28, moves vertically. The latter ends at the top in a horizontal plate with bearing 29 for the upper end of the spindle 26. The lower end of the spindle 26 sits in a coupling 30, which: by a reduction gear 31 at a speed of, for example, five revolutions / min. is driven by a servo motor 32.
This servomotor is intended to drive the contact block 25 in such a way that it follows the free movement of the thermometer arm 20. This is done by the action of two small relays 33 and 34, which are excited by the contact of the platinum wire 22 with one or the other of the contacts 23 or 24, whereby either the switch 35 or 36 is closed. The motor 32 is set in motion in one sense or the other, so that the block 25 is raised or lowered.
By a second driven by the spindle of the reduction gear 31 reduction gear 37, the arm M is pivoted by a certain angle. At its end, the arm has two light silver contacts 88, 39, between which a platinum wire 42 plays, which is attached to the end of a moving coil I @ lilliamperemeter needle 31, the drive 43 of which is of conventional design is.
The contacts 3 $, 39 are ver by two light connections 40, 41 with the grids of the electron tubes 48, 51 connected.
The device, which is shown schematically in Fig. 1 at 10, is mounted on a special plate and consists mainly of a five-electrode tube 44. Direct current conductors feed: the heating and the critter biasing circuits. The heating circuit includes two series-connected two-voltage batteries 45 large capacity. A high voltage battery 46A of suitable voltage, e.g.
B. 20 volts is connected to the grid resistor 46. This battery also feeds the graduated potentiometer 5, which is attached to the wheel 4, and from which the point Y receives its potential, and furthermore the stationary, linear potentiometer 13, from which the point Q receives its potential receives.
The capacitor 7, the resistors 8 and 9, the capacitor 11 and the resistor 12 are mainly the same as in FIG. 1.
The anode current through the tube 44 is constant under constant conditions and: by the value: the grid voltage at Q is determined. It flows through milliammeter 43 while shunting a variable resistor 47 to maintain a normal deflection of a suitable magnitude with pin 42 between contacts 38 and 39 without touching them.
However, if the temperature changes such that contacts 42 and 38 close, the grid potential of tube 48, which was that of the negative pole of grid battery 46A, is increased to that of the glow wire connected to the positive pole of the DC conductor. The tube is made more conductive and the relay coil winding 49 of the mercury switch 50 is energized enough to close the armature circuit of the steam valve motor VM.
The direction of the current flowing is such that Ida's control element (e.g. the steam valve) moves in such a way that> the temperature value to be kept constant is restored.
When the steam valve moves, the change in potential at point X causes a change in potential in the right plate of the capacitor 7 and thus, via resistors 8 and 9, a change in potential at point P, i.e. the grid potential of the tube 44.
This latter change has: the correct polarity to change the value of the anode current of the tube 44 in such a way that: the millimeter needle M2: follows the movement of the indicator M, indicating the increased temperature, and, continues, until the platinum wire 42 is free of contact 38 again.
When the platinum wire 42 ″ touches the contact 39, the tube 51 is made conductive and the coil 52 is energized in order to close the mercury switch 50 in the opposite direction. However, the tube 48 is capable of instantaneous contact resulting from fluctuations in the main current or the like or make 51 non-conductive.
Due to the absence of the resistors 53 and 54 in the grid circuits of the tubes, as well as the capacitors 5, 5 and 56 in the grid-cathode circuits and the shunt resistors 57 and 58, the contact between the wire 42 and the contacts 3'8 and 39 for a short time, e.g.
B. five seconds, before the grid reaches its final potential. Likewise, the instantaneous interruption of the contact does not interrupt the relay circuit, since the grid capacitor 55 or 56 does not immediately cancel the grid potential, but instead receives it for about five seconds at a sufficient height.
The resistors 8, 9 and 1.2, any one of which can be variable, however, allow the charge on the control grid of the tube 44 to escape slowly until the potential at point P is brought back to that at point Q, whereupon the grid and Anode currents return to their normal values. The milli-ampere meter needle 1Y12 therefore slowly returns to its central position of constant deflection,
thereby bringing the wire 42 into contact with the contacts 38 or 39 and thus changing the setting of the control element. Since this can only occur simultaneously with the restoration of the displayed temperature to its normal value, the valve is further forced to stabilize in a position adapted to the changed conditions.
By means of mathematical analysis it can be proven that the balancing effect of the control organ is related to the deviations of the variable to be regulated. The compensation effect should obey the following equation:
EMI0004.0038
where - V is the current value of the variable controlled by the control organ, e.g. B.
the amount of steam, means that is used to restore the desired value of the variable to be controlled; 0 represents the deviation of the variable to be controlled, and k1, k2, k., Are selected constants, of which: if necessary, k @ can be zero.
The task of the capacitor 11 is to give the control device a value k 3
EMI0004.0054
to issue a corresponding correction, where 0 is the deviation of the temperature from the desired value and k3 is a constant. The current flowing into the capacitor is equal to the capacitance C11,
multiplied by the rate of change of the potential at P (indicated by M2), which latter quantity of the rate of change of the displayed temperature, namely
EMI0004.0069
is proportional.
Although the three parts of the electrical installation are not independent of one another, it is mainly true that 1. that the capacitor 7 connecting X with P supplies a potential value proportional to 0, 2. that the addition of the resistor 12;
a proportional value
EMI0004.0079
Odt introduces, and 3. that the further addition of the capacitor 11 and, the resistors 8 and 9 have a proportional value.
EMI0004.0085
introduces.
The choice of the values for the capacitor 7,, the resistors 8, 9 and 12 and .the capacitor 11 determines the values of the three proportionality constants k1, 4 and k3, which previously .according to the particular Type of institution under regulation have been selected.
The sum of these three potential values
EMI0004.0098
is equivalent to the potential at X, which is proportional to the instantaneous value of the compensatory effect called up by the control unit, which is used to restore the desired value of the variable to be regulated. The potential at X can be changed by inserting or changing: the resistors 59 and 60, depending on operating variables that are able to influence the value of the variable to be regulated. Such an operating variable can be, for example: the pressure: of the heating medium.
If the pressure changes, what after: a delay. whose size depends on the type of system under control, will lead to a temperature change, the resistors 59 and 60 are changed accordingly. The potential at point P then changes, so that: the control device works as if the temperature had already changed, although it has not yet been influenced by the change in pressure of the heating medium.
In this way, the control device anticipates the changes in the variable to be controlled as a result of the changes in that operating variable, and the control is more gentle than would otherwise be achieved.
In the example of FIG. 3, the thermometer, or another indicator 120, carries a light contact 121 made of platinum or another noble metal at the isolated end, which was on a tightly wound counter-122 of a potentiometer, between the ends of which there is a potential difference reference of, for example, 20 volts. The metal resistor 122 can also be replaced by a liquid resistor 123 in which the movable electrode 124 is located between two stationary electrodes 125, 126. The electrolyte here can be water or another inorganic or organic liquid with a high, specific resistance.
The resistor 5 is with the counter stand 122 (or 128) and with the counter stand 13 connected in parallel. All three resistors are connected to voltage via: the potentiometric resistor 127, but the voltage supplied to the individual resistors need not be the same.
The tapping point 6 is connected via the capacitor 7, the resistors 8, 9 and 12 and the capacitor 11 to the point P, which corresponds to the grid 131 of a three-electrode amplifier tube 180 of high current-carrying capacity. The anode 132 has a positive potential of, for example, 2:00 volts or more to ground via a resistor 1.33 of approximately ten times the value of the resistance. of the relay 150 supplied. One terminal of the movable coil of the relay 150 is connected to the anode 182.
The cathode 184, which can be directly or indirectly heated, is connected to earth together with the cathode 144 of the tube 140 via the resistor 127.
The tapping point 121 (or 124) is connected to the grid 141 of the three-electrode amplifier tube 140. the anode 142 of which receives the same potential as the anode 132 via a resistor 143 of the same value as the resistor 133. The second terminal of relay 150 is connected to: anode 142.
With: the two radiators: the tubes 13: 0 and 140, the resistor 127 is connected in series, which is sufficiently large to cause a voltage drop of, for example, 40 volts when the heating current flows. Parallel to this -Wider.stande are the three parallel potentiometers 5, 13 and 122 (or 128), one end of which is connected to: the common connection between the cathodes and the heating circuit, while: the other Ends terminate in three sliding contacts 1286, 12813 and 12821. A resistor 1.29- is connected to the positive side. .
The relay 150 is a sensitive low-consumption micro-ammeter with an adjustable shunt 151 between its movable coil terminals. It moves its light contact 152 to the left or right, depending on whether the circuit containing the resistance 133 and the tube 130 carries more or less current than the parallel circuit 143, 140.
Since 138 and 143 are invariable, the relative impedances of tubes 180 and 140 determine the movement of contact 152, where these impedances are determined by the negative potentials applied to each grid.
The purpose of the relay 150 is to cause the negative potential derived from the resistor 5 and imparted to the tube 130 to gradually follow the changes in the negative potential caused by the movements of the thermometer arm 120 (contact 121 or 124) can be derived from resistor 12.2 (or 123) and given to tube 140.
If: the two negative potentials and the anode currents are unequal, the relay 150 closes its light contact 152 either with the contact 153 or the contact 154.
In the first case, the tube 16.0 is caused to increase its grid potential to earth to that of the cathode 1.61, to be precise because of the loading of the capacitor 162 by the delay resistor 163 until the relay coil 164 of the switch 1.65 is energized enough to close the armature circuit of the steam valve motor VM, in such a way that the steam valve moves in a sense at which the temperature is restored. When the steam valve moves,
the change in potential at point X thus causes a change in potential of the left plate of capacitor 7 and thereby a change in potential at point P, that is to say of the negative control grid potential of tube 1.30. This change has the same polarity as the change in potential given by the thermometer arm 12: 0 of the tube 1-40. If these changes are the same, the anode circuits in the resistors 133 and 143 are the same and the relay 150 is completely current-free. Before that, however, contacts 152 and 153 will open the circuit.
The tube 160 does not stop conducting, however, immediately, but conducts until the capacitor 1.62 stood through the counter 166 is sufficiently discharged to ': bring the anode current in the switch coil 164 below its holding value. This time interval can be adjusted by changing the resistance 166 so that it corresponds to the interval between the separation of the cathode 152 and 153 and the absolute equality of the anode currents.
Similarly, the contact to the right between 152 and 1.54 increases the grid potential of the tube 170 to that of its cathode 171, namely: by charging the capacitor 172 from the delay resistor 173 stood off. The coil 174 of the switch 1,7.5 is excited to close the armature circuit of the valve motor VITI with reversed polarity. When the grid potentials are at least almost the same again, the winding 174 is de-energized by opening the contacts 152 and 154, whereupon the capacitor 172 is discharged through the resistor 176.
2, as described with reference to FIG. 2, through the delay resistors 163 and 173 in: the grid circuits of the tubes 160 and 170,.? Ow - through the associated Capacitors 162 and 172 and discharge resistors 166 and 176 made harmless.
An arrangement similar to the example according to FIG. 3 with a thermocouple instead of a thermometer will now be described with reference to FIG. 4, which shows the part of the device which was previously made up of the thermometer arm 12: 0, the contact 121 and potentiometer resistor 122 or instead of: composed of electrodes 124, 125, 126 and: the liquid resistance 123 .
The electromotive force of the thermocouple is transmitted directly to the grid of a five-electrode tube 181 with a steep characteristic curve, which by means of suitably measured values of the anode resistance 182 and the coupling capacitor 18.3 amplifies the relatively small voltage changes by a step gain of, for example, 200 to reach,
whereupon the boosted voltage is transferred to a second similar tube 184 with anode resistor 185 and coupling capacitor 186 to get the same step gain so that the overall effect is no less than 1 volt per. degree C. This voltage is then finally fed to the grid 1.41 of the three-electrode tube 140 with its anode resistor 143, mainly as described above.
In certain cases, where there are very long delays between the setting of the control element and the resulting change in the variable to be controlled, the capacitor 7 (FIG. 3) would be inconveniently large and expensive. Since electrolytic capacitors are unsuitable because of the internal losses, an electrochemical polarizer of the type known as the Daniell cell is used.
In this particular application, a current of constant value is fed to the cell as long as the valve motor VM is running, in one direction or the other, depending on whether the switch 165 or 175 has worked. The passage of the current through the cell causes an increasing electromotive force (with a limit of approx. 1.43 volts), depending on the sense in which the current is supplied to the cell, while with a subsequent reversal of this current initially , the cell gradually de-polarizes in the same time it took to polarize and then causes an increase in the electromotive force in the opposite sense.
In FIG. 5, & 0 denotes either the temperature indicator arm itself or a driven arm which magnifies the movements of the temperature indicator. An example of such an enlargement has already been given with FIG.
At the end of the arm 80 there is a contact 81 which rests on the resistor 82 of a potentiometer system, whereby the plate R of the capacitor 83 is given changes in potential which are approximately proportional to the changes in temperature. The plate L is ver through the resistor 84 and the capacitor 85 with a point of constant potential and also with a potential indicator 86 a related party, the arm of which is denoted by Ml.
The movements of this arm are used in the same way as those of the arm Ml in FIG. 1. The indicator 86, which shows the initially! The enlarged value of the displacement of the pointer 80 can have the same shape as the indicator 10, which was described with reference to FIG.
The purpose of increasing the deflections of the pointer 80 is to instantaneously generate a compensating effect which is greater than that which is necessary to compensate for the disturbance on which the deflections of the pointer are based. As a result, the desired value of the variable, for example the amount of steam, is established more quickly in cases where sudden changes in the latter occur.
The fact that the movements of the pointer 80 are increased by the pointer 8,6 can be shown as follows: Let V81 be the potential at the end of 80 (i.e. at point 81), V88 be the potential at the pointer 8-6, be zero Potential at earth, i is the current flowing through resistor 84.
Then

In cases where no direct current but only alternating current supply is available, the devices according to FIGS. 2, 3, 4 and 5 can be modified so that
that the heating circuits of the individual tubes are fed by a transformer with 4 volts secondary winding output, while the high-voltage direct current is supplied by an electron tube or copper oxide rectifier, mainly as with AC radio receivers. The valve motor can be either a single or a multi-phase motor.
