o La fig. 1 est une élévation :de la première forme d'exécution de l'agitateur rotatif; La fig 2 est une coupe longitudinale se lon le plan II II de la fig. 1; La fig. 3 est une coupe transversale selon le plan III III -de la fig. 1; La fig. 4 -est une vue semblable à la fig. 1, mais représentant la seconde forme -d'exécu tion;
Rotary agitator for vacuum cleaner. The present invention relates to a rotary agitator for a vacuum cleaner, intended to be mounted with its axis of rotation approximately horizontal and approximately perpendicular to the direction of movement of the vacuum cleaner, in the mouth of said vacuum cleaner, and having protrusions forming ribs on its surface.
The rotary agitator according to the invention is characterized in that these protruding parts forming ribs are inclined on the axis of rotation of the agitator at an angle of more than 45 degrees, part of these ribs being shaped like a so as to act like a left-hand thread, while another part of these ribs, located on the same part of the length of said agitator, is shaped so as to act like a net on the right, - so as to deflect the pile of the carpet or other object,
during the rotation of the agitator, alternately to either side of the vacuum cleaner. The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, three embodiments of the stirrer according to the invention.
o Fig. 1 is an elevation of: the first embodiment of the rotary agitator; FIG 2 is a longitudinal section along the plane II II of FIG. 1; Fig. 3 is a cross section along the plane III III -de FIG. 1; Fig. 4 -is a view similar to FIG. 1, but representing the second form of execution;
Figs. 5 and 6 are dirty cross sections according to the planes V-V and respectively VI VI -of FIG. 4, and FIG. 7 is an elevation of the third embodiment.
The cylindrical rotary agitator 19 shown in FIG. 1 -is mounted inside -du ca puchon (not shown) of a vacuum cleaner. dust, having its longitudinal axis at the turn of which it turns, disposed horizontally perpendicular to the normal direction of movement of the vacuum cleaner on a carpet or other object covering the floor.
The cylindrical body 19 has, approximately in the middle of its length, a drive pulley 20. On each side of this pulley 20, and; extending approximately over half the length of the body 19, there are two diametrically opposed longitudinal grooves 21, each of these grooves being traversed by a longitudinal bar 22.
A wire 23 is wound in a helix of relatively small pitch, around: this bar, the arrangement being such that the parts of the helix 23 which are furthest from the longitudinal axis of the cylindrical body 19, project slightly beyond the general cylindrical surface, of this body.
It can thus be seen that when the member 19 is rotated inside the suction cap of a vacuum cleaner, these protruding parts form oblique parallel ribs deflecting the bristles, each of these ribs - momentarily deflecting the hairs of the object to be cleaned, when these hairs come into contact with them, .in a direction parallel: to the longitudinal axis of the body 19. These ribs act as cams .on said bristles, to deflect them.
As can be seen from FIG. q, diametrically opposed propellers 23 are wound in opposite directions on the bars 22, -so that the bristles are moved alternately in opposite directions pa rallèles .à the longitudinal axis of the rotor.
In a special embodiment, the direction of the helices 23 which constitute the ribs could be; reversed in the middle of the length of the agitator, so that the hairs of the different areas of the belts are simultaneously deflected in opposite directions. In the agitator of fig. 1, 2 and 3, -rigid beater bars 24, in the form of helical ribs of large pitch and large diameter, are formed or mounted on the sur-.
cylindrical face of the body 19 and are placed between the displacement propellers 23, bristles, making a small angle with the direction of the axis of the agitator. The bars 24 deflect in a third direction the bristles already deflected in two opposite directions by the helices 23. This third direction is substantially perpendicular to the axis of the agitator and, preferably, opposite to the direction of advance. - the vacuum cleaner on the carpet or other object covering the floor. In another embodiment, there could be provided beater bars arranged substantially parallel to the axis of the agitator.
The rotary stirrer shown in Figs. 4 to 6 differs -from that described above in that the indentations 21, supporting -bars 22: and -powers 23 -de deflection of bristles, are arranged at a small angle with respect to the longitudinal axis: of the body 19, this arrangement being advantageous in that the reaction of the object to be cleaned on each propeller 23 is distributed over an appreciable fraction of a revolution of the agitator.
The latter is consequently loaded uniformly and does not receive two distinct shocks per revolution, as would be the case for the agitator shown in FIGS. 1 to 3.
The axis of the propellers: 23, in the two embodiments described, .may be located near the surface of the agitator or can be practically located on the surface of said agitator.
The stirrer shown in FIG. 7 comprises a cylindrical tubular body part 25 having an annular groove 26 forming a pulley: disposed approximately in the middle of its length and intended to receive a drive belt (not shown).
Hair deflection rings 27, similar. to ribs, are attached to the cylindrical surface of the rotor 25, for example by welding them at points 28, each ring being slightly oval and lying in a plane forming a small angle with planes normal to the axis of the rotor , like: a swash plate, so that when the rotor turns, each ring acts like a cam and moves the pile - of the carpet alternately - in. opposite directions.
All the rings 27 of one half of the rotor are in parallel planes, the inclination of which is symmetrical to that of the planes of the other half, with respect to a plane perpendicular to the axis of the agitator, the arrangement thus being such that at any time these two groups of rings deviate them. carpet pile in opposite directions.
It will be noted that the rings 27 act in the same way as the propellers 23 of the previous embodiments, that is to say that part of the ribs formed by these rings is shaped so as to act in the manner -d 'a thread on the left, while another part of these ribs, situated on the same part of the length of the agitator, is shaped so as to act like a thread on the right, -so as to deflect the pile of carpet or other object, while rotating the agitator, alternately to either side of the vacuum cleaner.
One can easily see that this is indeed the case by considering the agitator shown in FIG. 7 and noting that, during a complete revolution, each of the rings 27 passes: from the position shown (inclined to the left for the right half) -to the symmetrical position (inclined to the right for the right half) to the end -a half-turn, to resume at the end -of the second half-turn the position shown.
It follows that each of the ribs acts by deflecting the bristles towards one end of the agitator during a half turn and deflecting these bristles in the opposite direction during the other half turn, just like s 'there were two nets, one on the right and one on the left.
Obviously, if desired, a large pitch helical beater bar arranged and functioning in a manner similar to the bars 24 of Figs. 1 to 3, could be attached to the agitator shown in fig. 7 or formed on this agitator.
In the embodiments shown in the drawing, the parts forming the ribs are inclined on the axis: of the agitator, so as to form with this axis an angle greater than 45. In the case of fig. 1 to 6, the pitch of the propeller is smaller than the -diameter of the propeller.
