Electric tube with glow electrodes and constricted discharge. It is known, in an electric fluorescent tube, which is seen ver with glow electrodes, by increasing the pressure of the gas or steam filling at high current, the positive column of the discharge so dense. constrict so that it only occupies a small part of the tube cross-section.
This achieves two advantages, namely, in part, an oil greater luminance and, in part, the possibility of being able to use ordinary, ie not high-melting, but easy to process glass for such a tube; If the discharge were not constricted, then with the same high current densities, an ordinary glass would be heated until it softens.
In fluorescent tubes of this type with a constricted discharge, it occasionally happens that the discharge column changes its shape and also its cross-line shape for a short time and then touches the tube wall. Naturally, this easily results in damage to the tubular vessel and the fluorescent tube becoming unsealed.
These inconveniences caused by changing the discharge column can be avoided if, according to the invention, one or more transverse walls with a passage opening for the discharge located centrally with respect to the tube cross-section are installed in the fluorescent tube between the main electrodes.
Since the discharge is forced to run in the tube aisle when passing from one electrode to the other at the points of the transverse walls, the discharge is guided through the transverse walls and divided into two or more shorter sections that are less easy to The tube walls migrate and are accordingly less likely to give rise to damage to the tubular vessel. The diaphragm-like acting transverse walls can be held in any way in the tube and consist of any metal. However, they are expediently made from high-melting metal, such as molybdenum, which gasses as little as possible.
In some cases it is sufficient, for example when the light tube is in a horizontal or almost horizontal position, if the transverse walls are in the form of half-rings and lie against the upper tube wall part. With this configuration of the transverse walls, too, the constricted discharge column is prevented from touching the inner wall of the tube, because the heat effect only gives the discharge column a tendency to migrate upwards.
The half-rings used as transverse walls can easily be fixed inside the tube and, in cases where the tube is primarily intended to emit light downwards, have the advantage that there is no obstruction of the emerging light by the transverse walls used to guide the constricted discharge .
It is useful to have two half-ring-shaped transverse walls closely spaced apart and connected as auxiliary electrodes to facilitate the ignition of the tube by a glow discharge caused between them.
It is already known in the case of electric fluorescent tubes to force an easier ignition by installing two auxiliary electrodes which are opposed to one another at a small distance. In this case, however, these auxiliary electrodes did not consist of half-rings, so that they could not be used at the same time to guide a single-ended discharge.
So that the discharge does not start at the side of the electrodes, each glow electrode can expediently be enclosed in a sleeve which has a centrally perforated bottom in the direction of the discharge path. The perforated bottom of the enclosing sleeve forms an additional aperture for the discharge, located close to the electrode, through which the latter is always kept exactly centered and thus also prevented from migrating to the tube wall near the electrodes.
On the drawing, in Fig. 1, an exemplary embodiment of the new electric fluorescent tube with a single-line discharge is shown in section.
2 and <B> 3 </B> show a second embodiment in longitudinal section and in cross section. 4 and <B> 5 </B> show two longitudinal sections of two further execution forms; Fig. 6 is a cross section along line A-B of Fig. 5
The luminous tube <B> 1 </B> shown in FIG. 1 has, in a known manner, a glow electrode 2 at each tube end, the supply of which passes through the squeeze points 4 of the The associated foot tube <B> 5 </B> must be carried out airtight ZD <B> cl </B>. The glow electrodes can consist of a sintered mixture of pulverulent, electron-emitting substances and pulverulent, difficult-to-melt metals in a manner known per se, although a different composition can also be used.
The electron-emitting glow electrodes can be made to glow in any known manner, for example by means of a glow discharge or also by means of a wire wound around them. The glow electrodes can also, as is known, consist of a metal sleeve covered with electron-emitting substances, which is heated by an embedded heating wire winding.
The fluorescent tube <B> 1 </B>, which decreases evenly conically from the center to both ends, has a molybdenum transverse wall <B> 6 </B> at the point of its largest cross-section, i.e. exactly in the middle fills the entire cross-section of the pipe and has a centrally arranged through-hole for the discharge. As shown, the transverse wall can have a bent, expediently somewhat resilient flange edge and can be clamped tightly to the inner wall of the tube by this. But it can also be set in another way in the tube, the transverse wall, for example by fusing.
Each of the two glow electrodes 29 is enclosed by a metal sleeve 9 which has a bottom end 10 directed towards the discharge path. In each of the two end shelves, a keyhole <B> 11 </B> is provided for the discharge in the center of the electrode and the fluorescent tube,
so that these can be seen through these holes <B> 11 </B> of the enclosing sleeve <B> 9 </B> and also the passage hole <B> 7 </B> of the transverse wall <B> 6 </B> must extend from one electrode to the other without being able to touch the inner wall of the pipe.
The filling of the tube can be any per se. In the example shown, it is assumed that there is a bottom body 12 made of vaporizable metal, for example, in the tube as well as the noble as facilitating ignition. Mercury, is located, which is evaporated with a sufficiently high current load in such an amount that it forms a strongly constricted vapor discharge of high current density.
With a length of 20 cm and a clear width of <B> 7 </B> cm in the middle and <B> 6 </B> cm at the ends, the tube contains, for example, an argon ignition gas filling of <B> 5 < / B> mm Ilg and an amount of about <B> 1 </B> cm 'of mercury, it can with a current of 34 amperes with a Rölirens voltage of <B> 29 </B> volts, i.e. almost <B> 1000 watts, without the strongly constricted discharge guided in the through-holes <B> 7, 11 </B> changing its straight shape.
The fluorescent tube can therefore be made of straight lines. Glasses are manufactured.
The enclosing sleeves <B> 10 </B> can be held in any way inside the pipe or on the foot pipes <B> 5 </B>. As shown on the left-hand side of the figure, each sealing sleeve can be connected to the power supply 3 of the glow electrode 2 enclosed by it through a line 14 containing a high resistance <B> 13 </B> be conductive -veT-.
In this case it forms in a known manner between the glow electrode

The two half-ring-shaped transverse walls are pushed onto a tube 21 made of quartz or other insulating material, which is used for holding purposes and which holds two power supply wires <B> 22, 23 </B> inside, which overlie the transverse walls <B> 17, 18 </B> Connect resistors 24, <B> 25 </B> with the leads <B> 3 </B> of the glow electrodes <B> 2 </B>. As a result, these transverse walls are connected to auxiliary electrodes, between which, when voltage is applied, a glow discharge that eases the initial discharge is formed.
This is limited to the two half-rings <B> 17, 18 </B> due to the storage of the power supply lines in the elongated insulating tube, which means that an extremely powerful ionization leads to rapid ionization the gas filling serving Glimyn discharge arises. The resistors can optionally, as is known per se, also lie wholly or partly in the interior of the tube. Appropriately, the feeds housed inside the Isolierröllre 21 are used as resistors at the same time.
In the case of the tube according to FIGS. 5 and 6, two semicircular transverse walls 17, 18 are arranged in the central cross-sectional plane of the Leuc'h tube. In this case, two tubes 21, 21 'made of insulating material serve to hold the two transverse rings <B> 17, 18 </B> and each have one of the two power supply lines <B> 22 <inside / B> or <B> 23 </B>.
Those ends of the two insulating tubes that do not contain any power supply lines are additionally attached to the foot tubes <B> 5 </B> by means of twisted wires <B> 26, 26 '</B>. If the half-rings <B> 17, </B> <B> 18 </B> and the insulating tubes 911, 21 'carrying them are to be stored completely vibration-free inside the tube, clamping rings <B> 27, are also useful at the tube ends. 27 'before seen between the holding wires 26 ..
