Cette ferrure 54,- établie entièrement à l'atelier, peut être obtenue soit d'titi seul bloc, par forgeage. matriçage, moulage on autrement, en toute matière appropriée, telle que fonte, fonte malléable. acier coulé, cuivre, aluminium etc., et petit aussi être établie en rapportant, sur le corps proprement dit de la ferrure 54, le naeud de charnières ainsi que le inainelon 59. Quel que soit le mode de fabrication de cette pièce, on aura soin, lors de son établissement, de situer dans titi même plan vertical l'axe du ncieud de charnière 56 ainsi que l'axe du pied de pivot 62;
On abaisse alors la glace, qui s'engage dans la fente 131 et les guides 132, et, lorsque cette glace a été amenée eu position voulue, par exemple celle indiquée en traits pleins en fig. 36 et en pointillés en fig. 4\?, on relâche les leviers Il(;
Dans les diverses formes d'exécution dé crites, la manoeuvre des glaces pourrait are effectuée par une manivelle ou de toute autre manière appropriée, avec ou sans équilibreur. Chaque glace mobile peut alors comporter tu, talon 137 (fig. 42) qui, pour la position de fermeture de la carrosserie;

In the key examples fig. 1 to 8, the windows are also housed in the excavations, but if this housing is not visible in said figures, it is because these figures are intended particularly to show the window retainer in the closed position of the bodywork .
In the embodiment of FIG. 1, 2, 3 and 5, in the doorframe 1, there is provided a housing 2 for a lever 3 of generally vertical direction which can oscillate on a pivot 4 mounted at a point closer to the lower end than to the upper end.
This lever supports, at its lower end, a cleat 5 having a sloped face 6, reminiscent of that of a lever, directed towards the outside of the car and continued by a lip 7 of suitable length. The rebate of the jamb 1 is suitably notched so that the lip 7 of the cleat 5 can be embedded therein, allowing the support of the frame -directly on the rebate.
At its upper end, the rod 3 carries a second cleat 8, the inner face of which has an inclined part 9, of less inclination than the surface 6, which is thus of the tinée to come to rest on the outer face of the glass panels with adjustable pressure.
A return spring 10 constantly tends to bring the tabs into the position of FIG. 3, the upper cleat 8 is recessed on the jamb 1, while the cleat 5 has protruded on the jamb, so that its cane-shaped surface 6 is in the path of the extreme vertical edge of the movable panel 13 .
As a result of these provisions, when, by transforming an open body into a closed body, the window panels are moved, the extreme edge of the panel comes to rest on the face 6 by pushing out, in the direction of the arrow (fig. 5). the corresponding cleat 5. During this movement, the lever 3 pivots around its axis 4 and moves the upper cleat 8, in the opposite direction to the lower cleat 5, so that, as the panel 13 sinks into its. rebate 1 the upper cleat 8 bears, by its face 9, on the outer edge of this panel, by exerting effective pressure on it.
When the lip 7 of the stopper 5 comes to rest in the housing which is provided for it in the corresponding rebate, under the movement by which the frame 13 applies itself in the bottom of the rebate 1, the face 9 of the cleat 8 has been pushed onto the corresponding angle of the frame 13 by exerting on the latter a pressure suitably determined in advance, which thus rigidly maintains the frame in position and prevents any trepidation during walking.
When the window frame is folded back to transform the body again into an uncovered car, the return spring 10: - brings the components into the position of fig. 3, ready to be operated, during a new operation of the ice frame.
One easily realizes that by varying the position of the pivot 4 on the bar 3 it will be possible to determine the blocking of the glazed frame with a suitably determined energy, while; had giving the rod 3 a more or less curved shape, we will adjust the rise of the entry into action of the upper cleat 8. This cleat 8 can press either on the angle of the window frame, as in fig. 5, or on a bevelled part of this frame, as in FIG. 4.
The lower cleat 5 could be arranged so as to determine either actuation, not by the window frame, but by the door itself, in order to determine the displacement of the locking cleat 8, not by the window frame, but by the door itself, which has a much greater mass, so as to operate a more energetic locking of the window.
Operation by the door could be obtained in the manner indicated in fig. 6 Ù, 8, the door comprises an actuation surface 1.1 constituted, for example, by a notch of suitable shape of this door, as indicated in the drawing, on the path of which is disposed a sliding bar 15, terminated at the bottom. lower end by a bevel 16.
This bar 15, guided in a housing 17 of the rebate, is articulated at either upper end by means of an axis 18 to, a latch 19 being able to play in a recess 20 of the frame 1, and coming to be housed for the closing position of the door in a notch 21 made in the window frame, as shown in the diagram of fig. 6.
A spring could be provided at any suitable point to determine the unlocking of the window frame, when the door is open; as well as to absorb shocks and vibrations.
In both embodiments, the locking position of the cleats could be effected with the aid of a group of transmission levers of any suitable arrangement, with or without displacement anilific <ttioil, this transmission being able to also be operated with the interposition of springs to make the panel locking elastic.
There is shown in FIG. J to 10 a so-called car., CabrioletII. In this form of execution, the group of two windows \ 31, mounted on (111th cll <trllière or common axis \ "2; comes for the position of uon-use, that is to say when the car is transformed into an uncovered car, stay in an excavation made at 23 (fig. 9 to 11), between the usual side doors 24 and 25.
The axis of the hinge 22 is integral, at its lower end, with an elbow lever 26, mounted so as to be able to turn follows a pivot 27, integral with the excavation, and provided, in the extension of the hinge axis' '_', of a stud 28 or of a hook 52 (fig. 12) which, for the position of use of the frames (the windows, is housed in a recess -tut 29, made in the foot of body 80, thus ensuring the locking of the assembly on the foot of body.
In the variant of fig. 13 and 14, the pin '' 8 comprises, near its base, a projection 33, similar for example to a key pawl, which peireth in a recess of the same shape 34, made in a cover plate 35, for example in rué tal, covering the upper part of the footboard. Under this plate 35 is disposed a movable guard 36, able to rotate around the same axis, and also comprising a notch 37, similar to that 3.1 for the passage of the projection or lug 33.
This plate or guard 36 carries an operating handle 38 preferably ending inside the body to ensure the locking of the pin 28, in the position of fig.13. The plate 36 preferably has a variable thickness, so as to ensure the locking of the pin 28 in the position of use and it,
suppress roofs flapping yes trepidations.
It should be noted that in the two cases of fig. 12 and 13, the axis of the window 22 of the mirrors lies substantially or preferably exactly on the extension of the common axis of the hinges 3 '? of the corresponding door 25.
On the other hand, the whole stuffed by the axis (the, hinge of the mirrors and the piece '' 6 laughs small perform only one movement of oscillation around the pivot 27, that is to say in Him plane parallel to the longitudinal axis (the car, and that, therefore,
the windows enter the pit 23 through the upper part suitably hollowed out of the edge of the series body. To allow the movement of the ice, during the pivoting of the assembly around the pivot 27, the excavation is hollowed out laterally, for example following the line indicated in phantom in FIG. 10.
As a result of this arrangement, when it is desired to transform the open car into a closed car, the cowling is first put in place in the usual manner, then all the cliâssizs of the car are pivoted on each side of the car. windows around the axis of the pivot 27, after having, if necessary, cleared the opening of the excavation, then fixing the upper end of each axis of the hinge - you cover the usual way.
In this position, the hinges of all the pivoting parts, doors and windows, are on the same axis, so that, during the opening of the doors, there is no longer any misalignment of the window frames, which eliminates everything. risk of accident. Each window can thus be made integral with the corresponding door.
To transform the car back into a torpedo car, all of the window frames are simply folded down, in the corresponding excavation, by causing this assembly to pivot around the axis or pivot 27, this assembly then being possibly maintained in the position. shown in - fig. 10 by any suitable support receiving either the lower part of the window frame, or the end of the axis 22 opposite to the part 20.
This construction makes it possible to accommodate in the height, that is to say the greatest diirreiion of the excavation, the greatest dimension of the windows, that is to say their width, which makes it possible to reduce the width of excavations.
On the other hand, the positioning of the window frames by pivoting about the axis 27 eliminates the side excavation door, and simplifies construction. To then allow the window frames to exit freely from their excavation, it is possible either to keep the door 24 open during the operation, or also to hollow out this door.
The lever 26 could be arranged so as to remain flush with the deck of the body for the closed position of the series body, which can be obtained for example by suitably shaping this part 26, or by lowering the pivot 27 .
Instead of folding down from the outside the window panels intended to form the closing of the convertible at its front part, above the partition wall, it would preferably be possible to arrange these windows so as to allow them to be closed. closing- from inside the car. thus making the conversion possible, without having to disturb the driver. For this purpose, the glass intended to be applied above, the front partition will present a naked dimension allowing it to pass through the rebates which surround the door glasses.
To ensure the tightness of the closure of these windows, applied in the interior of the car, it will be available for example, as shown schematically in fig. 15 on the lower edge 39 of each ice frame, a sort of gutter 40 suitably fixed with screws, by welding or otherwise.
The deck 41 of the bodywork hollowed out at 42 comprises, at the lower part of this recess, a rubber band 43 of the tines to come to be housed for the window closed position between the gutter 40 and the corresponding edge 39 of the chassis, in thus preventing the penetration of rainwater inside the car.
The various window frames will preferably be fitted with sliding half-windows, intended to allow adequate ventilation (the car. The sliding half-window will preferably include a rack-and-pinion control device to be immobilized at any desired location. .
For the immobilization of the upper end of the hinge pin 22. instead of using an automatic closing giving rise to beating and i1 vibrations during walking, we will rely on the upper part of this axis \ _ '2, a locking cam 44 (fig. 1i) and 191, flared -en trunk (the cone on its inner face, to fit on a conical part 45, of a box of locking 46; integral with the cowling mount.
The cam 44 is pierced with a central hole 47, intended to fit on the locking pin 48, and it further comprises a slot 49 for the passage of the bit 50 of the pin 48. The outer face of the cam 44 has a helical curvature 51, on which the internal edge of the bit 50 must rest, and the spring 53 is provided on the axis 48.
By rotating the axis 22, on the pivot 27, the cam 44 will be brought into the position indicated in fig. 17 and 19 inside the housing 46, then, using a key fitted on the axis 48, the bit 50 is rotated, which presses on the helical surface 51, thus energetically locking the windows in the assembly position (fig. 17). .
The application of the invention to a convertible car of the so-called "convertible" type has been shown, but this invention could be applied to vehicles of any type, and even to cars with three windows, of the so-called "limousine" type. . In this case, studs may be formed on the end of the central window opposite the hinge 22, these studs fitting for example in corresponding recesses of the bodywork and the cowling, said studs being able, of course, to be replaced. by recesses, the studs being carried 'by the bodywork and the cowling.
Instead of directly fixing the hinges on the foot of body and to practice in this foot of body titi housing intended to receive titi hook in the extension of the pivot axis of the windows, one establishes, as in fig. 20 to 23, a fitting 54, intended to be applied to the foot of the body, and comprising both lateral wings 55 for its rigid attachment to the foot of the body.
This fitting comprises, near its upper part, the node 56, hinges 57, 58, intended to receive the corresponding adjacent doors.
At the top of this fitting is provided titi nipple 59, integral with said fittings, and in which is made titi recess 60 corresponding, as shape and as dimension, to the hook 61 reserved at the end of the foot of the pivot 62 of the mirrors corresponding.
This fitting 54, - established entirely in the workshop, can be obtained either from a single block, by forging. forging, casting or otherwise, in any suitable material, such as cast iron, malleable iron. cast steel, copper, aluminum etc., and small also be established by relating, on the body itself of the fitting 54, the node of hinges as well as the inainelon 59. Whatever the mode of manufacture of this part, one will have care, during its establishment, to locate in titi same vertical plane the axis of the ncieud of hinge 56 as well as the axis of the pivot foot 62;
these axes, housed in the same transverse wound and having a parallel direction, can also be arranged in the extension of one another, then eliminating any misalignment between each closing window and the corresponding door, which will allow the windows to follow, in a more or less exact manner, the corresponding door in this extension without leaving between these parts (the play which can cause injuries to the hands of the occupants of the car.
Thanks to this arrangement, it will suffice, during assembly of the car, the footboards being suitably prepared in the usual manner, to fix the shoe 54 on this footboard, to automatically ensure the correspondence oie the desired relationship between the axes of the doors and (the windows, without requiring a great deal of skill on the part of the worker.
On the other hand, since this part is machined entirely in the workshop, it can be established with great precision, without great difficulty, so that the establishment and assembly costs are notably reduced by long-term execution of the bodywork.
Instead of mounting the upper hinges and the lower hinges on a single support, it is possible to use, for the support of the lower part of the doors, a double lighter, shown in perspective in FIG. 29, and as a wound, on a smaller scale, in fig. 30.
This lighter comprises a support 73 intended to bear against the lower part of the bodywork stretcher and has at its outer end titi axis 74, on which come to pivot the wings 75, 76, the relative position of which is limited by titi interlock, and which are intended to be fixed using screws under the lower edge of the corresponding doors. This lighter could also be mounted on the support 54 to facilitate assembly.
In the case in particular of a bodywork with two side windows on each side, the arrangement (the hinges according to the arrangement shown in fig. 21 and 23 allows, as shown in figs. 26 and 27. to ensure the housing windows in a dig behind the backs of the front seats.
The line of the hinges 56, 56, falling, as seen more particularly in fig. 26, slightly and) before the rear face of these backs siers, there is provided in them a excavation 70, which may include a closing door at either side end, but which is hidden by the, rear door 71 when this der niere occupies its closed position indicated in fig. 26.
When this door 71 is opened (fig. 27), the excavation 70 is unmasked, which makes it possible (to remove the group 21 of windows by sliding it on suitable rails disposed at the lower part (the excavation.
In the case shown in fig. 3 of a convertible in which the general arrangement of the bodywork does not allow the rear door 71 to be fitted, so as to constitute by this same door a mask for the search, this search will then include a special door 72,
provided with a closing device that can be actuated for example (the interior (vehicle bed, this door 72 being independent of the door 71, but can also carry the articulation of this door.
In the case (a (the small size car, comprising a door frame with thread 01 aces, to make the construction faster and more economical, we will have, as shown in fig. 24) and 25 on the front part of the vehicle, and on each side thereof, a vertical upright 63, fixed to the foot of the body, and comprising at its lower part hinges 64, 65, for the door 66, while the upper part of the upright 63 carries hinges 67,
68, pont- the corresponding glass 69. This glass will have any desired arrangement, in one part or in two parts, mounted with, hinges one on the other, or arranged so as to be able to slide smoothly, the movable part of ice being provided with a rack stop of suitable arrangement. The window could either be removably connected to said door or in any suitable manner.
In this arrangement too, it would suffice to mount, without any special precaution, the upright 63 to the front part of the bodywork, to allow the quick and inexpensive fitting of the door 66 and the glass 69 on this upright. , which ensures a correct placement of sound. alignment without requiring any special skill on the part of the worker.
The uprights 63 being thus kept in position in an invariable manner can serve as a support for the front part of the cowling; as well as to support the windshield. These amounts can be established in flat or profiled iron of any desired shape or even in wood.
The arrangement of fig. 31 to 34 is intended to allow retraction by folding down of the removable windows on the inner wall of the corresponding door.
As shown in fig. 31, it has denied, inside one, 77, of-, doors, a search 78, provided with a closing door 79 opening on the inner face of this door.
The frame 80 of one of the windows intended to close the cowling is ilinnl, on either the lower edge, of tabs 81, for example two in number, arranged near each of its ends and each articulated on a pivot 82, fixed on the corresponding side wall of the excavation. This chassis 80 is integral with the pivot 84 for the second window, this pivot coming, when the chassis 80 is in the position of use of the bodywork, through its upper end to enter a suitable housing of the cowling spar 85.
To allow the windows to be retracted onto the inside face of the door, the latter is connected, as indicated more particularly in FIG. 32 and 33, corresponding body foot art 86, by a swan neck hinge 87 which leaves the interior face of the door completely free 77, as can easily be seen by examination of fig. 33.
In this arrangement, the lighter 88, which will preferably support the two adjacent doors, can either be fixed independently on the foot of the body or on the bran card of the body, or be integral with iin support common to this lighter and to the upper char- ter 87, as in the previous execution examples.
This arrangement makes it possible to carry out the transformation of the bodywork with greater ease, a transformation which can then optionally be carried out neat while the vehicle is in motion.
In the execution faith of fig. 35 and 36, on each of the doors 89, 90, there is a mirror 91 provided with lugs 92 articulated on pivots 93 reserved in a pit 94, formed in the thickness of the door 89 or 90 and provided with a door of closure 95 (fig. 35).
Each of these windows 91 carries a titi oir pivot axis 96 serving as an articulation for a second window 97, and which, for the closed position of the car shown in FIG. 35, comes to rest, by either upper end, on the corresponding cowling spar, lion represented cry in fig. 35,
and is maintained in this (the position in any appropriate way.
For this fixing, the free excreinity of the axis 96 (fig. 39 to .11) is terminated, for example, by a ball joint 98 engaging in a united guide mortise 99 (fig. 39A) of the corresponding cowling spar 100 and being housed in a clamping jaw 101 provided with a suitable rnanoeuvre screw, movable from the inside or the outside (the the car.
To transform the roadster car into a convertible, each door 89 and 90 is brought into the position of fig. 41, perpendicular to the axis of the car, then, after opening the door 95 of each excavation, we fold towards the binder (arrow F) each group of glasses 91, 97, by making penetrate the ball 98 of the pin 96 in the mortise 99 of the corresponding cowling spar 100, previously brought into the closing position of FIG. 41.
This ball joint 98 is brought in making it follow the guide mortise 99 in its box 101, due to be tightened, so as to make this ball joint, and therefore the axis 96 integral with the spar (the cowling 100. as indicated in Fig. 39 and 41. Each window 9i is then unfolded to bring it into the position of Fig. 35, for which these windows are sealed against the trigger guard 109 of the body (fig. 35), which eliminates the need to give these glasses the profile of the trigger guard.
It 3- should also be noted that, when the windows have been brought into position (the bodywork closed and the door 9 #) of the excavation was closed, and maintained in the closed position by its latches 1l0 ( fig. 44 and 45) fitted with a handle (work 111,
the upper cross member 11? of this door 95 comes appnver against the legs 11 $ of the frame of the mirror 91, thus locking this frame securely in the raised position and preventing either tilting. The small curssi excavation door have a central latch, which will be used either alone,
either in combination with the latches 110 and will be maneuvered by the handle 111. which can be either rigid or articulated on its axis. and will be used to bring the door into closing position.
In the case of a car, (the large width, it may happen that the windows ltî, each of which has substantially the width of the corresponding door 89 or 90, cannot come into contact with each other.
In this case, there is placed between said windows 97 titi glass panel 103 (fig. 3 7 and 38), the upper edge of which can be fixed to the cowling cross member, not shown, in any case. suitable, and the lower edge of which is articulated on titi axis 104 mounted so as to be able to move horizontally in the slides 105 housed in the upper part of rrtr appropriate recess 106 made in the partition 10 , '2 ..
When the car has to be transformed into a torpedo, the window 103 is folded down, then brought titi to the bottom of its excavation 106, in the position indicated dotted cry in 107, in fig. 38, for which it is safe and tic not likely to disturb the occupants (the car.
To ensure, under satisfactory conditions, the ventilation of this closed convertible, the windows will preferably be arranged so as to allow them to occupy positions that vary in height, as indicated for example in fig. 36, the mirror 91 being able for example to come to be placed in 91 '(and the mirror 97 in 97 "), each leaving, between either upper edge and either frame, a free opening 108 for - l 'ac # ration (the car.
The mirror 91, art link to be crimped in its frame or frame 113, is mounted in its frame so as to be able to slide freely (fig. 42) with the possible interposition of elastic members, intended to absorb vibrations and prevent noise , as well as the breaking of the ice. The lower horizontal section 114 of this frame comprises (Fig. 4 (i) a slot 115 of suitable size, to allow the passage of the ice itself.
Near either upper edge, the mirror proper 91 carries a titi soliclari- # ation device with either frame, consisting (fig. 9?) By titi group of two levers 116, 117, articulated respectively in 118, 119, on a frame 120 integral with the glass 91.
These lever, 116, 117, that a spring 121 constarnrnent tends to move away from one another, are articulated respectively to rods 122, 123, guided in supports 124, 125, and the outer ends of which, forming locks, are pushed back by the spring 121, engaging with toothed racks 126, 127, formed on the vertical edges 128, 129 of the frame 113.
The support strip 130 (fig. 43 and 45) placed at the top of each door such as 89 comprises a recess or slot 131, of size and arrangement corresponding substantially to the slot 115 of the frame section 114 (fig. 46) to allow the ice to descend 91.
Inside the excavation 94, there are arranged, in line with the ends of the slot 131, guideways 132 (fig. 42, 43 and 45) each formed for example by a U-shaped iron, articulated in 133 by its lower end on the sheet or door wall 134, and is provided, on the one hand, with a spring 136 (fig. 43) and, on the other hand, with a stop 135, intended for the keep in strict correspondence with the slots 131 and 115 when the corresponding glass 91-113 occupies the closed position shown in solid lines in FIG. 42.
Thanks to this arrangement, when one wishes to ventilate a car transformed into a closed car by lowering the windows, one acts on the ends of the levers 116, 117 to bring them together by compressing their spring 121, which releases the rod locks 122. 123 of their racks 126, 127.
The glass is then lowered, which engages in the slot 131 and the guides 132, and, when this glass has been brought into the desired position, for example that indicated in solid lines in FIG. 36 and dotted in fig. 4 \ ?, we release the levers Il (;
, 117, the rods 122, 123 engage again in their racks, maintaining the ice at the height which has been assigned to it. This window, being guided by its lower part in the tracks 132, is maintained in the correct position, without sloshing and without danger of breaking, and it is thus possible to ventilate a closed body by a horizontal opening limited to will and located to the upper part of the body, so that it does not interfere with the occupants of the car.
The rods 122, 123 could be articulated at the ends of the same diameter of a pivoting disc provided with a suitable operating handle and comprising or not a return spring. The device for maneuvering and retaining each glass 91 will preferably be placed at the extreme upper part of the corresponding frame 113, on a metal lining integral with this glass, said metal lining possibly being able to constitute the corresponding upper wing. of the frame 113 or a light total frame.
The locks, instead of being placed at the upper part of the mirror, could also be housed in its lower part, the racks then being provided in the lower guides 132 and the control of the locks taking place for example using of rods or cables, rising in the vertical edges 128, 129 of the window frame 113, to come to be connected to the maneuvering members, with or without return spring, preferably arranged at the upper part of the window.
The arrangement described allows any of the windows to slide vertically in the body part on which it rests, to allow ventilation. This vertical sliding of the window, independently of its frame, in no way opposes the operation of the corresponding door, 'in the case of the window fixed to the door.
The sliding windows or only part of the latter may be combined with compensation devices, of known model or not, intended to make any rnanaeuvre of windows easier.
To increase the width of the excavation of each door, we will preferably use, for each of them, a lock a, vertical gene.
If the doors do not have a sufficient width to receive the windows, it is possible to use sets of removable windows used in the manner described, with the difference that said windows, instead of being folded back in the excavations made in the doors, will be housed (fig. 47) in a trunk 145 with two compartments, mounted on a set of connecting rods 146, 147, allowing it to take the inclined positions in I and IL </ I> Position I allows, for example, after opening the right-hand vehicle door, to have easy access to the compartment containing the right-hand windows, while, for position II, opening from the left door provides access to the compartment containing the windows on the left side.
Figs. 48 to 50 show a variant of fixing each group of glasses to the hood. In this example, the pin 96, made rigidly integral with the frame of the mirror 91, comprises, at its outer end, a spangling hook 148 (fig. 48 and 49) which can engage with a finger 149 arranged. vertically in a suitable mortise 160 of the cowling spar 100.
With this arrangement, the group of windows being folded upwards, in the position of FIG. 50, the hook 148 arrives at the height of the mortise 150, and, when the door 89 is closed, this hook engages behind the finger 149, in the position indicated in dotted lines in FIG. 48, possibly carrying out an appropriate tightening.
The spacer hook could also be placed in the cowling spar and fitted with an appropriate actuator, to make it embrace the end, suitably shaped with the pin 96. It is also possible to make the shaft 96. axis 96 integral with the window 97 and then determine the locking locking by unfolding the window 97 brought into its road position shown in FIG. 35.
In the various embodiments described, the operation of the windows could be effected by a crank or in any other suitable manner, with or without a balancer. Each movable window can then include you, heel 137 (Fig. 42) which, for the closed position of the body;
engages a spring-loaded locking device or the like 138 mounted on a crossmember M 9 connected to the balancer control device or the like, the heel 137 being able to release from the latch 138 during the folding of the ice, as shown in dotted lines at 139 '(fig. 42).
The locking and support members of each mirror, instead of being constituted by sliding rods, could also be formed by oscillating latches with or without return spring.
When operating a door of the nature described, after lowering the window, this window being brought for example into the position of FIG. 36, this door should not be subjected to too strong shocks, for example, when it is closed, although the window is held resiliently and with sufficient accuracy by its lower end, to avoid any chance of breakage.
In order to eliminate the need to abruptly close the door, a necessity which generally exists in motor car bodies, the internal lock handle is established in the form of a lever 140 (fig. 51 to 53) articulated to res out. the axis 141 of the lock, so as to constantly tend to be brought back, by a spring not visible in the drawing, in the position of FIG. 53. A fixed stopper 144 is provided on the corresponding body foot 142, at the height of the keeper 143 of the lock, the end of which, projecting from the foot of the body, is bevelled, and corresponds to a similar bevel of the lever-handle 140.
This stopper can be constituted by a pi; not movable tending to disappear when the handle 140 passes.
Under these conditions, when you want to close the door, you pull it out so unruly from the inside (the car, like an ordinary door, without violence, shouting thus bringing this door 89 into a first strike. in the position of Fig. 52. From this position, the exact adjustment of the door in its housing would not allow it to be closed by a simple pull exerted directly by hand.
the bevelled end of the lever 140, after having abutted against the end of the protruding keeper, also bevelled, of the stopper 144, is folded back on its support 141, then is erased to come into position shown in solid lines in fig. 52.
By then exerting, from inside the car, a traction on the free end of the lever-handle 140, the spout of this handle comes to bear on the projecting end of the stopper 144 and, by oscillating on the axis lock 141, allows the door to be easily and smoothly brought into the closed position meture of fig. 53. This action being facilitated by the difference in length of the two parts of the lever-handle 140 allowing a multiplication, for closing the door, of the force exerted by hand on the free end of the lever-handle "140 Double strikes will obviously always be used for the application of this provision.
