Turbine hydraulique.
Des formes d'exécution de l'objet de l'in vention sont représentées, à titre d'exemple, au dessin .ci-annexé dans lequel: Les fib. 1, ? et 3 montrent respectivement en coupe axiale, en plan et en élévation une chambre de déeh.arbe applicable à une turbine centrifuge;

L a. fig.
Hydraulic turbine. The: present invention has, object polish a hydraulic reaction turbine with chamber for receiving the. rotor discharge.
The shape of this chamber in a pl-in at right angles to the axis of the turbine is obtained by considering the shape of the streamlines in two dimensions which are obtained when a source is superimposed on a current of parallel water. The realization of a super position of this kind according to the well-known principles of hydrodynamics leads to the obtaining of two systems due respectively to the two superimposed elementary systems, the dividing line between the two systems being a line of semi-form. oval whose two sides are asymptotic with two lines parallel to the original direction of the water current.
This dividing line is chosen as an approximate course of the discharge chamber in a plane normal to the axis of the turbine. A characteristic of this curve is that it appears unchanged in the case where the current from the source is purely radical, as also when the velocity of the discharge has an eirconferential component. (any value other than zero.
It follows that a chamber with such a layout is suitable for covering energy from speed to pressure energy both when the speed is radial and when it contains a component. of rotation.
Consideration of currents in a planar system requires that the chamber have a uniform height in the direction perpendicular to the plane of these currents. However, if such an arrangement were employed, more water would flow into the chamber in one direction than in the other. To avoid this drawback, it is advantageous to dimension this height of the chamber from place to place, so as to obtain an approximate equalization of the. > rate of discharge in the chamber.
Embodiments of the object of the invention are shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing in which: The fib. 1,? and 3 show respectively in axial section, in plan and in elevation a deh.arbe chamber applicable to a centrifugal turbine;
Figs. la, lu and de are diagrams by clicking the method used to determine the. shape of the deeliarge chamber; The fis. 5 and 6 are axial and transverse sections taken respectively along lines 17-17 and 18-18 and showing the application of a discharge chamber for the case of a flow turbine:
<axial Cie la. wheel La. fis. 7 is an axial eoupe representing the arrangement of a turbine it, vertical axis injected on both sides of the. wheel.
The curve formed by the dividing line between the two systems mentioned above is indicated by line 72 on the seams. la and d >>. In the. fib. -la, the other lines represent the liquid streams inside the limit curve 72 for the case where the current coming from the source is purely radial.
In the fis. 4h, we have represented (the corre- sponding threads for the case of a rotational current in the same limit curve. By examining the fib. La, we will see that, in the case of the plane system represented, it is discharge on one side called circle 73 a greater flow rate than on the other side.
The same amount of water is considered to flow in a unit of time between any of the adjacent pairs of nets in this figure. .in order to make an approximate reestification, the dimensions of the dehar # be chamber are varied from point to point parallel to the axis, the variation being calculated from the liquid threads of the fi-, la, so that at places:
where the speed of the current is restricted, there. the height of the chamber is increased proportionally. It; 'ensues that the cha.m.bre, which must. Obviously have a uniform height at e (rcle 7 3 which coincides with the outside diameter of the wheel, s a # -r # probably rises in height from this circle to the wall-liinite 7 2 of the chamber.
This progressive increase can be determined as follows: The fib. le shows a section of the chamber taken along line 74 of the fib. the. starting from the middle of the sebnient; s 75, 76, defined on the line 7-1 by two liquid lines a (haeent ,, are projected the lines (Î, 78, etc., which serve as 'ordinates to measure the height of the chamber in fig.
These heights are made proportional to the lengths of dearo. @ 7 @ 1, \ i11, eti @ ,, determined on circle 7 3 by 'the same liquid threads as their corresponding segments 75, 76, etc. This cal cul extends to butes the fifteen divisions of the.
line 7-1. It follows: the shape of the section of the fis. -the. The height of the chamber can be obtained at other points, by considering due the cerele 73 and the limit line 72, thus due all the curves represented on the fis. 1t:
, are level curves, rs. The height along the. curve 81 is obviously that which is given by ordinate 82. To the lines 84 @ct 85 correspond lines 86 and 87.
We will see. due to the mode of operation as just mentioned results in the production of a discharge chamber which has the shape indicated on the fib. 1, 2 and 3.
The dashed lines; interrupted plotted; on the fib. 3 are a 15-15 cut through the fib. ?. A:
3r._ general icteristic d (# this chamber is that it is semi-oval in plan, that its height increases progressively (center bed towards the outside and that the opening the discharge is of a much larger height on the sides; that near the center.
The. fig. 7 shows the use of the chamber (the discharge of form established according to the present invention, establishing a simple and compact arrangement of installation of a reaction turbine of the centrifugal type. The example shown an oval turbine, - its guidance device, for high speed, specific and low fall.
A vertical shaft device is employed therein and the impeller of the turbine 21 is placed further; lower than the water level in the tailrace channel (37. Water escapes di- rectly into a discharge chamber 68 which has a semi-oval shape in horizontal cross-section, as it has.
been described above, and which emerges say (#tement in the tailrace channel. The water arrives .du reach 69 and passes into the inlet chambers 70 and 71 arranged above and. below the impeller. From these chambers, the water passes through guide vanes 23 to reach the turbine wheel. The general path that the water describes is indicated by arrows. This arrangement gives in a comparatively small space and in a a form which can easily run a turbine whose flow rate is relatively large.
The short path and low curvature of the threads to pass through the inlet chambers, the impeller, and the discharge chamber indicate that relatively high efficiency can be achieved.
In the event that the reality corresponds with a sufficient approximation to the envisaged current conditions in the chamber, it is desirable to adhere to the drawing as established by resorting to the method indicated above. But in cases where the reality does not correspond with a sufficient approximation for the initial conditions, one can deviate, within certain limits, from the precise form given by this way of operating.
Las fig. 5 and 6 show a similar case where a discharge chamber is employed for a turbine from which the water exits in an axial direction, so that it must turn at a right angle at the inlet. or inside the discharge chamber. The water flows into it by passing the suction pipe 90 and it discharges through the opening 91. The chamber still has in plan a semi-oval shape, except at 92, where a ridge is placed in a position. which does not appreciably influence the current, as shown in fig. 4a.
A support column 93 is introduced for constructive reasons. It will be noted that, on the sides, this or flow opening has a height that is really greater than in the center. By using such a chamber, the water which enters axially through the suction pipe 90 and which may have a rotating component is deflected at a right angle and discharged at a considerably reduced and approximately uniform rate, in the downstream reach, the shape of the chamber being such as to contribute to the transformation of part of the speed into pressure.
