l'extrémité de la ligne de jonction au bureau central distant quand cette ligne est libre; la partie B montrant la. condition de cette extré mité de ligne pendant une conversation entre abonnés ou pendant l'attente de la. réponse de l'opératrice du bureau privé annexe après que la sonnerie initiale a actionné le relais 9 (voir partie C); la partie C montrant la. condition réalisée au moment de l'appel, cette condition se maintenant pendant un temps assez long pour actionner le relais branché sur la. ligne de jonction au bureau privé annexe, après quoi le relais 9 est excité et la condition montrée en B est réalisée;
Telephone installation for private annex office. In the annex private offices served by an attendant and able to communicate with central offices of the automatic type, by means of junction lines, cord circuits are provided which are arranged in such a way only when the subscriber of the annex private office, who has just communicated with a subscriber of the automatic remote central office, has hung up his receiver on the hook, switch, the connection of this subscriber's line with the cord circuit is cut, so that said subscriber cannot be called back, even if the junction line, connecting the two offices, private and central, is not yet disconnected.
It is often necessary that in the annexed private offices using such cord circuits, the secrecy (communications be, assured. On the other hand, it is sometimes presented that - certain lines of subscribers of the annex private office cannot only part of a reduced particular service such as a local service, i.e. these lines cannot be connected to the trunk lines going to the remote central office, and the backbone circuits must then be provided for so as to prevent the attendant from making such connections.
The invention relates to a telephone installation for an annex private office to which ends a series of subscriber lines and which is connected, by at least one trunk line, to a remote automatic central office, the annex private office being provided with Cord circuits such as connections can be made, through any of these circuits, between any two lines in the office.
According to the invention, means are provided to prevent the operator serving the annex private office from listening to the conversations taking place through one of said cord circuits, and to prevent this operator from being able to connect to the telephone lines. junction, subscriber lines forming part of a particular service, not allowing communications with the remote automatic central office.
The accompanying drawing gives, by way of example, one (the embodiments of the invention. In this drawing, the figures show diagrammatically in Fig. 1, a cord circuit comprising an operator's telephone circuit. , a circuit allowing the control of automatic devices; Fig. 2, the 'different stages of a - connection with a remote automatic central office: part A of this figure showing.
the end of the trunk line at the remote central office when this line is free; part B showing the. condition of this line end during a conversation between subscribers or while waiting for the. response from the attendant of the attached private office after the initial ringing has actuated relay 9 (see part C); part C showing the. condition fulfilled at the time of the call, this condition being maintained for a long enough time to actuate the relay connected to the. junction line to the annex private office, after which relay 9 is energized and the condition shown in B is fulfilled;
part D showing the conclusion achieved when the calling subscriber hangs up; Fig. 3, a magneto line for particular or reduced service, that is to say a subscriber line of the annex private office which cannot communicate with the remote central office.
This line ends in a jack and can be connected by means of the cord circuit to. some other subscriber line; Fig. 4, at the private office annexed to the end of an incoming trunk line. from the automatic central office saying; Fig. 5, a subscriber circuit of the annex private office capable of communicating with the remote automatic central office.
The key circuit cord shown in fig. 1 com takes: two call keys 16 and 17, one of which corresponds to each of the files; a listening key 11 associated with a listening relay 12, and a key 22 for the service in transit, that is to say for calls crossing the annex private office and directed to the remote central office. The listening key 12 also serves as a key controlling the circuit of the pulse-sending disc placed at the operator's station and shown in the upper part of the drawing. When that key is down.
at the time the. cord circuit plug is inserted into the jack of a trunk line, the attendant only needs to operate her disc to automatically establish the connection to the remote central office. Key 22 for in-transit service can be used during the day to allow certain subscriber stations in the attached private office to send electrical pulses directly to the remote automatic central office.
During night service, or when the operator is absent, this key is lowered to allow trunk lines to be connected directly to. -some subscriber lines of the attached private office without the need for special cord circuits.
The cord circuit, which can establish all the desirable connections to the annex private office, further comprises: two supervision lamps 1 and 2 which during local connections are controlled by two bypass relays 3 and 4, while for transit connections , these relays are placed under the control of a series 5 supervision relay:
a double winding relay 6; a relay 7 for the service of the junction lines, which disconnects the relays 3 and 4 and the key of its nerie 16 of the cord circuit as soon as connections with a junction line are made; a cut-off relay 8 which interrupts the branch circuit on the line and passing through the self-induction coil 23 when the circuit to the calling subscriber is closed. The telephone circuits of the operator's set, of the impulse sender, and of signaling, shown in the upper part of the figure, are combined with each other.
The signaling circuit is automatically opened when the operator's telephone set is in service.
The following description of the various operations performed by the cord circuit helps to understand the arrangement shown.
Connection between two: subscribers of the bar private annex.
The calling subscriber removes his receiver (read hook switch. The line lamp of the circuit of this calling subscriber, such as for example, the lamp of fig. 5, comes on, and an auditory signal is produced. responds by inserting plug 10 of the horn circuit of Fig. 1 into the jack of the calling line.
The line lamp goes out and relay 4 is energized through the following circuit: battery, left winding of relay 4, right outer armature at rest of relay 7, fourth contact of key 22, lower conductor of the circuit cord, third con tact of key 27, rings of plug 10 and the jack of the calling line, lower conductor R of this line, station of the calling subscriber, upper conductor T of this line, tip of plug 10, second contact of key 27, upper conductor of the horn circuit, third contact of key 22, inside left contact of relay 7, right winding of relay 4,
and battery. The circuit of the supervision lamp 2 is then broken tan say that the lamp 1 lights up through the following circuit: earth, battery, armature at rest of relay 5, right winding of relay 17, lamp 1, armature at rest of the relay; 3, body of the plug 10 and the jack of the calling line, and earth. The listening key 11 can be actuated before or after the insertion of the plug 10, and this operation of the key 11 results in the connector of the horn circuit at the operator's station.
As soon as key 11 is lowered, relay 12 is energized: earth, third contact of key 11, relay 12, right armature at rest of relay 3, in right bearing of relay 17, armature at rest of relay 5, battery, and earth. By attracting its fittings, relay 12 connects the operator's station circuit shown in the upper central part of the drawing to the cord circuit. The operation of key 11 also completes the following circuit: battery, relay. 13, induction coil 14, operator's station transmitter, first contact of key 11, and earth.
Relay 13, by being excited, opens the auditory signal circuit. After the operator has received the number of the requested line, she restores her key 11 to idle and inserts card 15 in the jack of the requested line. The requested station is called by means of olé 16. The bell keys are provided with local contacts for the actuation of a pole reverser if a similar device is used.
When the called station answers, relay 3 is energized through the following circuit: battery, right winding of relay 3, second contact of key 16, internal right contact of relay 7, internal left contact of relay 12, fifth contact of key 22, lower conductor of cord circuit, ring of plug 15, called subscriber's line and extension, tip of plug 15, upper conductor of cord circuit, normal right contact of relay 6, second contact of olé 22, right inside contract of relay 12,
external left contact of relay 7, third contact of key 16, left winding of relay 3, and battery. Relay 3, by being excited, turns off lamp 1, which indicates to the operator that the called subscriber has answered. In addition, the circuit of relay 12 is interrupted at the armatures of relays 3 and 4, and consequently the operator's station can no longer be connected to the cord circuit. So the secrecy of communication between subscribers is assured.
During the communication between the subscribers the only branched current on the conversation circuit is that passing through relays 3 and 4. At the end of the conversation, when the subscribers' receivers are on hook, the circuits of these relays 3 and 4. 4 are interrupted. These relays deactivate, reestablishing the circuit drawn previously for lamps 1 - and 2 which light up. In addition, the relay 17, when energized, closes the circuit of the auditory signal shown in the upper left part of the drawing.
A relay 17 serves three circuits of cord, and it is provided for this purpose with three independent windings. The operator finally removes the plugs from the corresponding jacks. Connection between a line of junction coming- from an automatic central office and a subscriber line.
The final selector at the central office searches for and chooses a free trunk line in the well known manner. The condition in which this junction line is found at its end to the central office as soon as it is chosen, is indicated by part C of the fi-. 2. The inrush alternating current is supplied to the conductor R of the line, through a resistor lamp 18, and the battery is connected to the conductor T of this line through the relay 9. The sending of the current d call on the junction line, energizes relay 19 (fig. 4) at the annex private office through its left winding.
This relay 19 by energizing closes its blocking circuit through, through the earth, its inner ar mature at work, its right winding, the lower contact of jack 21, the battery and the earth. By its right armature at work, this relay 19 connects the conductor T of the line to the earth, thus actuating the relay 9 (FIG. 2) which passes the end of the. junction line to the central office, from the. condition C at the. condition R. The source of alternating current is now far from the junction line, so that the operator can respond by activating his key 11, without fear of receiving a momentary impulse of inrush current .
The lamp 20 of the. junction line lights up (fig. 4).
The operator responds by inserting plug 15 of her circuit (the cord into jack 21. Opening the normal contacts of, jack 21 (fi. 1) breaks the blocking circuit (relay 19, which is neutralized and extinguishes the lamp 20. A circuit is now closed through the, earth of the .key 22, the relay 7, the body of the. plug 15, the body of the j.aclï 21, the upper contact closed of this jack, and the battery. Relay 7 is energized. Relays 3 and 4, thus due the associated capacitors, are disconnected from the conversation circuit, while, on the one hand, the tip of plug 15 is connected directly to the tip of the other plug 10, and that, on the other hand, the ring of the plug 15 is connected to the ring of the other plug 10, but through the cable supervision 5.
The coil (the self-induction 23 is bypassed on the cord circuit, between relay 5 and the armature of relay 7 through the right armature at rest of relay 8. As a result of the establishment of this shunt, the circuit of relay 24 at the end of the junction line to the central office (fig. 2 R) is closed, and. this relay by energizing places the automatic circuits of this central office in a talking position. and counting.
When the operator activates; his. listening key 11, relay 12 is energized at. through the following circuit: earth, third contact closed. key 11, relay 12, armatures at rest for relays 3 ct 4, right winding 17, armature at rest for relay 5, battery and earth.
The conversation circuit is now as follows: upper conductor of the cord circuit, second upper contact normally iron of key 22 at rest, inner right armature working - of relay 12, key 3 (l, coil of choke - induction 26, normally closed contact of relay 29, subsequent armature of bauclie to work of relay 12, fifth normally closed contact of cIé -2229, and lower conductor of the cord circuit. Line conditions, junction at central office remain unchanged.
The operator obtains the number of the called subscriber from the calling subscriber, and inserts plug 10 into the jack of the requested line, then rings the station called by activating its key 27. The supervision lamps 1 and 2 s Light up through: the battery, left armature at rest of relay 5, right winding of relay 1.7, lamps 1 and 2 bypassing, body of plug 10 and jack of the called line, and Earth. The operator restores her. listening key to the normal position.
The self-induction coil 23, shunted through the cord circuit, maintains the central office connection. When the called subscriber answers, he completes the con- versation circuit at his set, and relay 5 is energized, which breaks the circuit of lamps 1 and 2 which. go out. Relay 8 is energized as follows: earth, normally closed lower contact of key 22, relay 8, armature at work of relay 5, battery and earth. Relay 8 is blocked. The shunt passing through the. coil 23 around the fired circuit (the bead is broken.
While relays 5 and 8 are energized, relay 6 is bypassed. By its excitation, the relay 5 opens the circuit of the relay 12, to its armature when it is not, and in this way the operator's station can no longer be connected to the line, thus ensuring the secrecy of conversations.
At the end of the conversation, when the caller has called his receiver, relay 5 is neutralized, supervision lamps 1 and 2 light up, and the short-circuit around relay 6 is broken. This is energized in series with relay 8 and key 11: earth, battery, upper contact of jack 21 (fig. 4), body of jack 21, body of plug 15, right winding of relay 6, normally closed lower contact of key 11, working armature of relay 8, relay 8, normally closed lower contact of key 22, and earth.
The energization of relay 6 opens the cord circuit to the central office, allowing the final selector to revert to idle as soon as the calling subscriber of that central office hangs up his receiver. At this time, relay 6 connects the end of the cord circuit to earth and to the battery, so that if a call: from the subscriber of the attached private office occurs, current is expected. to energize relay 5 again.
If the attendant of the attached private office is late in breaking the connection, the trunk line can be chosen for a second call. In this case, the relay 19 (fig. 4) is energized, and the lamp 20 lights up. This lamp shines intermittently in synchronism with the frequency of the inrush current. It should be noted that in this case the call relay of the central office is not activated. To answer such a call, the attendant removes the plug 10 and activates the listening key 11, which opens the circuits of relays 6 and 8 which are neutralized.
Connection between a subscriber line of the private office annex and a trunk line, sending of pulses being doing under the control of the operator.
When a subscriber of the annex private office calls, for example the subscriber corresponding to the line whose end equipment is shown in fig. 5, the lamp corresponding to this line lights up. The attendant answers this call by inserting plug 10 of the cord circuit into the jack of the calling line. The lamp in this row goes out.
The operator lowers her listening key 11, which excites the relay 12 in the same way as before, and a conversation circuit is closed for her set, as follows: upper conductor T of the calling line , tip of plug 10, second normally closed contact of key 27, upper conductor of the cord circuit, third normally closed contact de key 22, internal left normal contact of relay 7, third normally closed contact of key 16, left external contact of relay 7, right external armature on relay 12, normal left contact of relay 25, operator's receiver, left armature at rest of relay 28,
normal right contact of relay 25, external left armature on relay 12, normal internal contact, right of relay 7, second normally closed contact of key 16, external right armature at rest of relay 7, fourth normally closed contact of key 22, lower conductor of the third normally closed contact cord circuit of key 27, ring of plug 10, ring of the jack of the calling line, and conductor R of this line.
The attendant receives the number of the requested line. Relay 4 is connected to the circuit of the calling line as follows: battery, left winding of relay 4, outer right armature to Te pos of relay 7, fourth contact of key 22, lower conductor of the cord circuit, to the calling station then return through the lower conductor of the cord circuit, third contact of key 22, internal normal contact, left of relay 7, right winding of relay 4, and battery. This relay 4 is therefore energized and the lamp 2 remains off.
So the lamp 1 lights up alone on the circuit already traced previously. The calling subscriber can hang up his receiver while waiting for the operator to obtain the requested number from the remote central office, or he can keep his receiver removed from the hook switch without breaking it. : connection. In the. following description, this second case is assumed. The operator inserts the plug 15 into the jack of a trunk line leading to the remote office to which the called subscriber belongs.
Relay 7 energizes, interrupting the circuit of relays 3 and .1. The armatures of relay 7 are such that the work contacts are made before the rest contacts are open, thus reducing noise to a minimum. resulting from this maneuver. The supervision relay 5, which is included in the conversation circuit, is excited in series with. the central office line relay, or in series with the recorder step relay, if the line relay has too high a resistance.
In either case, as soon as relay 5 is energized, lamp 1 goes out then its circuit is open to the armature while relay 5 is working, and relay 8 is energized and hangs like it has. been described previously. The shunt placed on the cord circuit to. tra towards the self-induction coil 23 is then broken. Relay 5, when energized, also opens the circuit of relay 12, which disconnects it. line operator extension.
So the operator cannot speak with the calling subscriber after the. plug 15 has been inserted into the jack of the junction ligri.e, since relay 5, by being excited, opens the circuit of relay 12. Since the latter cannot be excited under these conditions, the operator cannot send electrical pulses, unless the calling subscriber hangs up until this sending is complete, or unless the attendant sends these pulses with another pair of cord circuits, changing then the cards of the line of subscribed.
This is most commonly used, used in most cases: In the latter case, the operator, with her listening key 11 lowered, waits for the desired signal to be read before activating her disc. When she gives this signal, she: marks the requested number digit by digit. From the first movement of the disc, before pulses are sent, the local contact of the disc causes the excitation of relay 28 which, while operating, disconnects the telephone circuit from and energizes relay 29. This last relay breaks the shunt. passing through the self-induction coil 26, which allows the excitation of the relay 25. The latter then splits the line circuit into two parts.
The, part of the: line circuit placed on the central office side: is closed through the inner right armature of the energized relay 12, the key 30. the contacts of the pulse sending disk, the right armature of the relay 29, and the inner left arming of relay 12. The part of the line circuit placed on the side of the calling subscriber is. closed through the right armature of relay 12, the ga.tichë armature at work of relay 25, the left winding of relay 31, la. battery, the right winding of relay 31, the right armature to work of relay 25, and the left outer armature of relay 12.
The relay 31 is energized and blocks the relay 25 as long [read the listening key 11 remains lowered. When the disc returns to its normal position, a series of pulses are sent: in accordance with the marked number. At the end of each series of pulses, the local contact is opened, which neutralizes relays 28 and 29. The connection to the central office is maintained at the end of each series of pulses by re-establishing the non-stop shunt. : by the self-indication coil 26.
If the attendant marks a number or wishes to call another number, she can do so by lowering. momenfmement there. key 30. After maneuvering the disc, the operator can hold the. : listening key lowered until the key a.pl subscriber has answered, or else it resets its key to position. normal. In this case, relays 31 and 25 @oiit neutralized.
No change takes place in the supervision signals to the private office annex leaning the establishment of the. connection. The operator can monitor while listening in order to check whether the called subscriber answers or not. At the end of the conversation, the calling subscriber hangs up his receiver, neutralizing relay 5 which causes the two supervision lamps 1 and 2 to light up. 'The short-circuit around relay 6 is broken, and this relay is energized giving a connection signal to the central office.
If desired, the calling subscriber can hang up while waiting for the operator to make the requested connection. The method of operation remains virtually the same except that relay 5, and therefore relay 8, are not energized. The self-induction coil 23 therefore remains in shunt on the cord cir cuit. To maintain the connection when the listening key 11 is reestablished. When the called station has been obtained, the operator calls back the calling subscriber by means of the key 27.
In this case again, as soon as the subscribers are in conversation, the circuit of relay 12 is kept open to the armature of relay 5 ensuring the secrecy of communications.
Connection between zone subscriber line said annex private office and a trunk line, sending impulses electrical being done by the calling subscriber.
To allow the sending of the impulses through its cord circuit, the attendant maneuvers her transit key 22. This breaks the circuits of relays 3 and 4, and of relay 12. Relay 5 is placed in series. with the calling line, which allows monitoring of the .con nexion. When relay 5 is energized, the circuit of relay 12 is open, which disconnects the operator's set from the line and ensures the secrecy of communications. Relays 8 and 7 are not energized since their circuit to earth is opened by key 22.
While the pulses are being sent, the supervision lamps 1 and 2 may flicker as a result of the intermittent excitation of relay 5. At the end of the conversation, when the called subscriber hangs up his receiver, lamps 1 and 2 switch on. light up continuously, which constitutes a disconnection signal for the operator. It should be noted that for a connection similar to that described, the cord circuit is not open when the subscriber hangs up. So if the attendant is late in breaking the connection, the trunk line can be used for a new call, and the calling subscriber is rung.
The operator is informed of this fact firstly by the flickering of the supervision lamps, and secondly by the flickering of the lamp 20 (fig. 4) of the junction line. Relay 19 is energized while inrush current is sent to the line, but call relay 9 at the central office is not actuated since, under these conditions, the earth connected to the relay armature 19, is not connected to the spring of the jack of the junction line, since the plug 15 is inserted in the jack 21.
From the above, it can be seen that the current is supplied during the conversation by the remote central office, and no direct current branch is maintained on this conversation circuit at the annex private office. Only the low impedance supervision relay 5 allows the attendant to monitor the communication carried out. By this arrangement, the cir cuit formed by the junction line and the cir cuit of the subscriber station of the annexed private office practically constitutes an ordinary main line directly connected to the remote central office.
The cord circuits and the trunk line provide for immediate reestablishment to the remote central office when the subscriber of the adjoining private office hangs up his receiver, i.e. the disconnection signal is given to the central office. remote at the same time that it appears in front of the o @ p; eratrice of the annex private office.
The cord circuit is then split so that. the trunk line can still be used up to the attendant's set, before: the latter breaks the connection, but this new call lights up the lamp corresponding to the trunk line without ringing the telephone line. the maid. Magneto lines for special service. Lines for special service, such as the one shown in fig. 3, must always be served, both if they are calling and if they must be called, by plug 15 of the cord circuit.
The insertion of this plug in the jack of the line causes the excitation of the high resistance relay 32 through the following circuit: earth, battery, relay 32, upper contact of the jack of the line considered, body of this jack, body of plug 15, relay 7, seventh contact of key 22, and earth. The relay 7 of the bead circuit is not energized in this circuit: due to the high resistance of the relay 32.
When plug 10 is inserted into the jack of another subscriber line, the lamp \? lights up until this subscriber answers, and it lights up again when this subscriber hangs up. The other supervision lamp 1 cannot light up since the relay 3 is energized through a circuit passing through the. self-induction box 33 shunted on the particular line. This tour includes:
battery, right winding of relay 3, second contact of key 16, inside right contact of relay 7, inside left contact of relay 12, fifth contact of. key 22, left contact of relay 6, ring of plug 15, ring of the jack of the line envisaged, inner armature working of relay 32, relay 33, outer left armature of relay 32, tip of plug 15, right contact of relay 6, second contact of key 22, internal right contact of relay 12, external left contact of relay 7, third contact of key 16, left winding of relay 3, and battery.
If the attendant tries to connect the. line of the, fig. 3 with the junction line of fig. q-, relay 6 operates and splits the cord circuit when plug 10 is inserted into the jack. The circuit energizing this relay 6 comprises: earth, winding of relay 6, resistor, working contact of relay 3, ring of plug 10, ring of plug 21, and battery.
Relay 3 was energized as soon as the magneto line was connected by plug 15 as previously described, through shunt 33.
Two cord circuits cannot be used simultaneously, since all the listening keys are connected in series, so that only one relay 12 can be energized at a given time. A call from a special service or magneto line such as the one in fi g. 3, cannot be released by a plug 10 since there is no current to energize the relay 32 and close the conversation circuit.
According to. The preceding description, we see that the secrecy of communications is ensured by the relay 12 which disconnects the -station of the operator of the corresponding cord circuit as soon as the two subscribers, calling and called, are in communication.
A annexed private office equipped as shown and described offers a much greater efficiency than with the equipment ordinarily used, moreover one can easily see that a slight change in the wiring of the devices. connections makes effective or not effective either the secret service as regards the operator, or the reduced service as regards certain subscriber lines, or the two services to the. times.
