Abstract

A nest-capable container comprising a first and second cup. Each cup has a mouth, bottom, inner and outer surface. There is a coupling to selectively uncouple and couple the first cup outer bottom surface with the second cup bottom inner surface.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention is in the field of containers, more specifically nest-capable containers that can be selectively coupled.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Containers, especially food and beverage containers, are often insulated to keep contents warm or cold. Such containers are often vacuum insulated and made of stainless steel and plastic. Containers may also be insulated by incorporating an insulator into container walls.
[0003] Insulated containers are relatively expensive to manufacture. Also, such containers can be bulky and heavy even when empty.
SUMMARY
[0004] In one embodiment, the present invention is a nest-capable container having a first and second cup. Each cup has a mouth, bottom, inner and outer surface.
There is a coupling to selectively uncouple and couple the first cup outer bottom surface with the second cup bottom inner surface.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0009] FIG. 1 shows a first cup (10) and a second cup (20) prior to nesting the first cup (10) within the second cup (20). Each cup has a mouth (30, 70), bottom (40, 80), inner (50, 90) and outer surface (60, 100). The outer bottom surface (40) of the first cup (10) is adapted to form a male portion of a coupling (110). The inner bottom surface (80) of the second cup (20) is adapted to form a female portion of the coupling (120). In the embodiment shown, the male and female portions of the coupling are threaded, enabling a secure and reversible coupling upon insertion and rotation of the first cup
(10) into the second cup (20). FIG. 4 shows a completed coupling, formed when the first cup (10) is nested within and screwed to the second cup (20).
[0010] Optionally, the assembled nest-capable containers also comprises a lid.
[0011] Other embodiments for coupling the cups together could include velcro, a frictional-fit male-female snap and a cooperative interlock.

Claims (5)

What is claimed is:
1. A nest-capable container comprising a first and second cup, each cup having a mouth, a bottom, an inner and outer surface; and a coupling to selectively un-couple and couple the first cup outer bottom surface to the second cup bottom inner surface when the first cup is nested within the second.
2. The nest-capable container in claim 1 wherein the coupling is a male-female coupling.
3. The nest-capable container in claim 2 wherein the coupling is a male-female threading integrated into the first and second cups.
4. The nest-capable container in claims 3 wherein the first and second cups are composed of at least one from a group of plastic, glass, ceramic, cardboard, and polyurethane.
5. The nest-capable container in claims 4 further comprising a lid.
