Abstract
A video data processing apparatus includes a reading unit reading video data from a video data file recorded on a randomly accessible storage medium in response to a first control signal, and reading position data indicating a frame position of the video data in the video data file from the video data file recorded on the storage medium in response to a second control signal, a memory storing the position data read by the reading unit, and a controller controlling the reading unit by outputting the second control signal before the outputting of the first control signal, and controlling the reading unit by outputting the first control signal with a designation of particular video data to be read indicated by the position data stored in the memory, in response to a request to execute a process to the video data file.
Claims (18)
1. A video data processing apparatus comprising:
a reading unit for reading video data from a video data file recorded on a randomly accessible storage medium in response to a first control signal, and for reading position data indicating a frame position of the video data in the video data file from the video data file recorded on the storage medium in response to a second control signal;
a memory for storing the position data read by the reading unit; and a controller for controlling the reading unit by outputting the second control signal before the outputting of the first control signal, and for controlling the reading unit by outputting the first control signal with a designation of particular video data to be read indicated by the position data stored in the memory, in response to a request to execute a process to the video data file.

a memory for storing the position data read by the reading unit; and a controller for controlling the reading unit by outputting the second control signal before the outputting of the first control signal, and for controlling the reading unit by outputting the first control signal with a designation of particular video data to be read indicated by the position data stored in the memory, in response to a request to execute a process to the video data file.
2. The video data processing apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising:
a mechanism to/from which the storage medium is attachable/detachable, wherein the controller controls the reading unit by outputting the second control signal in response to the connection of the storage medium by the mechanism.

The video data processing apparatus according to claim 1, wherein in the case where a plurality of video data files are recorded on the storage medium, the controller controls the reading unit by outputting the second control signal with a designation of a particular video data file to be read selected from among the plurality of video data files before the outputting of the first control signal, and controls the reading unit by outputting the first control signal with the designation of particular video data to be read indicated by the position data stored in the memory in response to a request to execute a process to the particular video data file.
4. The video data processing apparatus according to claim 3, wherein the storage medium further stores thumbnail image data files to display thumbnail images of the plurality of video data files, the video data processing apparatus further comprising:
a display unit for displaying the thumbnail images; and an instruction input unit for instructing to select a thumbnail image displayed on the display unit to generate an instruction signal, wherein the reading unit reads thumbnail image data from the thumbnail image data files in response to a third control signal, and outputs the thumbnail image data to the display unit; and the controller controls the reading unit by outputting the third control signal before the outputting of the second control signal, and controls the reading unit by outputting the second control signal with a designation of a particular video data file indicated by the instruction signal in response to the instruction signal.
a display unit for displaying the thumbnail images; and an instruction input unit for instructing to select a thumbnail image displayed on the display unit to generate an instruction signal, wherein the reading unit reads thumbnail image data from the thumbnail image data files in response to a third control signal, and outputs the thumbnail image data to the display unit; and the controller controls the reading unit by outputting the third control signal before the outputting of the second control signal, and controls the reading unit by outputting the second control signal with a designation of a particular video data file indicated by the instruction signal in response to the instruction signal.
5. The video data processing apparatus according to claim 3, wherein the storage medium further stores thumbnail image data files to display thumbnail images of the plurality of video data files, the video data processing apparatus further comprising:
a display unit for displaying the thumbnail images; and a selection operation unit for carrying out a selection operation for the thumbnail image displayed on the display unit, wherein the reading unit reads thumbnail image data from the thumbnail image data files in response to a third control signal, and outputs the thumbnail image data to the display unit; and the controller controls the reading unit by outputting the third control signal before the outputting of the second control signal, and controls the reading unit by outputting the second control signal with a designation of a particular video data file indicated by the selection operation when the selection operation for the displayed thumbnail images stops at an arbitrary thumbnail image for a preset period of time or more.

The video data processing apparatus according to claim 1, wherein in the case where a read rate for reading data from the storage medium is saturated when data of a predetermined volume or larger is read, a storage area in the memory has volume corresponding to at least the predetermined volume, and stores the position data of the predetermined volume;
and the controller controls the reading unit by outputting the second control signal to read the position data of at least the predetermined volume.

The video data processing apparatus according to claim 6, wherein the memory is provided with a plurality of storage areas; and the controller controls the reading unit by outputting the second control signal to repetitively read the position data in units of the predetermined volume, and controls the memory to store position data of the predetermined volume in each of the storage areas in sequence.

The video data processing apparatus according to claim 7, wherein the controller controls the reading unit by outputting the first control signal with a designation of particular video data to be read indicated by the position data stored in a first storage area in response to the execution request, controls the reading unit to read the video data by referring to the position data stored in a second storage area if the position data stored in the first storage area ends with the position data of the video data being read, controls the reading unit by outputting the second control signal to read new position data in response to the reading of the video data indicated by the position data stored in a second storage area, and controls the memory to store the new position data in the first storage area.
9. The video data processing apparatus according to claim 7, wherein if a next video data file next to the video data file currently read is determined, the controller controls the reading unit by outputting the second control signal to read next position data of the next video data file, and controls the memory to store the next position data in an unassigned storage area of the plurality of storage areas.
10. A video data processing method comprising:
reading in advance position data from a video data file recorded on a randomly accessible storage medium, the position data indicates a frame position of video data in the video data file;
storing the position data; and reading video data indicated by the stored position data from the video data file in response to a request to execute a process to the video data file.

13. The video data processing method according to claim 12, wherein the storage medium further stores thumbnail image data files to display thumbnail images of the plurality of video data files, the video data processing method further comprising:
reading thumbnail image data from the thumbnail image data files;
displaying the thumbnail images based on the thumbnail image data; and reading position data of a particular video data file selected in accordance with a selection instruction of a displayed thumbnail image.

14. The video data processing method according to claim 12, wherein the storage medium further stores thumbnail image data files to display thumbnail images of the plurality of video data files, the video data processing method further comprising:
reading thumbnail image data from the thumbnail image data files;
displaying the thumbnail images based on the read thumbnail image data; and reading position data of a particular video data file indicated by the selection operation when the selection operation for the displayed thumbnail images stops at an arbitrary thumbnail image for a preset period of time or more.

A video data processing method according to claim 16, wherein reading particular video data to be read indicated by stored position data in response to the execution request; and reading, if position data of a predetermined volume ends with position data of video data being read, video data by referring to position data included in a next predetermined volume, reading new position data in response to the reading of the video data by referring to the position data included in the next predetermined volume, and storing the new position data.
18. The video data processing method according to claim 16, further comprising:
if a next video data file next to the video data file currently read is determined, reading next position data of the next video data file, and storing the position data.
