Abstract

A shaft seal comprises an inner seal (6) at the shaft (2) comprising at least one ring (7,9,11) and a radial external seal at a roller body (1) comprising at least one ring (14,15,16) parallel to an inner ring. There is a projection (17,18,19) from at least one ring that contacts a ring of the other sealing element and wears at the beginning of rotation to produce a small ring gap between the projection and the other ring. An independent claim is also included for a roller for a conveyer, especially a belt or strip conveyer, comprising the above.

Claims (9)

1. A shaft seal comprising an inner sealing element (6) which is arranged on an axle shaft (2) which at least has one ring (7, 9, 11), and an outer sealing element which is arranged on a roller body (1) that at least has one ring (14, 15, 16) which is oriented essentially parallel to the at least one ring (7, 9, 11) of the inner sealing element (6), and which is characterized by a ring (14, 15, 16) of one of the two sealing elements (13) provided with an annular projection (17, 18, 19) facing a ring (7, 9, 11) of the other sealing element (6).
Said projection being in contact with the ring (7, 9, 11) of the other sealing element (6) during the assembly of the shaft seal and being ground, once the axle shaft (2) and the roller body (1) has started to rotate, until a narrow annular gap between the projection (17, 18, 19) and the ring (7, 9, 11) of the other sealing element (6) is formed.
2. A shaft seal according to claim 1, characterized by the tapered shape of the projection (17, 18, 19).
3. A shaft seal according to claim 1 or claim 2, characterized in that the axle shaft (2) functions as stator and the roller body (1) functions as rotor.
4. A shaft seal according to one of the aforesaid claims, characterized by a sealing land in which one of the two opposing boundary walls is arranged to face the inner sealing element (6) and the other one to face the outer sealing element (13).
5. A shaft seal according to one of the aforesaid claims, characterized in that the rings (7, 9, 11) of the inner sealing element (6) and the rings (14, 15, 16) of the outer sealing element (13) are arranged alternately in axial direction along the axle shaft.
6. A shaft seal according to one of the aforesaid claims, characterized in that in case of multiple provided projections said projections are arranged only on one of the two sealing elements (6, 13).
7. A shaft seal according to one of the aforesaid claims, characterized in that the inner sealing element (6) and/or the outer sealing element (13) is provided as one-pieced unit.
8. A shaft seal according to one of the aforesaid claims, characterized by being applied for a conveyor roller in particular for a band or belt conveyor.
9. A conveyor roller, in particular a belt or band conveyor comprising a hollow cylindrical roller body (1), and at least having an axle shaft (2) mounted in two bearings (4) arranged with a shaft seal for each of the bearings (4), characterized by providing a shaft seal according to claim 1 to claim 8.
