Description
EAVESTROUGH COVER FOR
USE WITH A DRIP EDGE
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an eavestrough for a rain gutter and more particularly, relates to improvements in such structures.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Various types of gutters or eavestroughs are well known in the art as is the use of shields or gutter guards therewith. The purpose of the gutter guard is essentially to permit passage of rainwater from the roof to the eavestrough while protecting the same from extraneous foreign matters such as leaves and the like.
The art has taken many different approaches to the design of eavestroughs which utilize such gutter guards depending on factors such as if the installation is an original one or a retro fit. Further, one must take into account the structure already existing on the house eave such as the type of drip edge utilized.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
It is an object of the present invention to provide a cover or guard for an eavestrough wherein the eavestrough is installed on a structure having a drip edge member.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Having thus generally described the invention, reference will be made to the accompanying drawings illustrating an embodiment thereof, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cover member according to one embodiment of the present invention; and Figure 2 is a side sectional view thereof.
" 1 ..
ir DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Referring to the drawings in greater detail and by reference characters thereto, there is illustrated in Figure 1 a cover for a gutter or eavestrough and which cover is generally designated by reference numeral 10. Cover 10 is designed to be utilized with a gutter generally designated by reference numeral 12 and shown in dot dash lines.
Cover 10 has a central planar portion generally designated by reference numeral 14.
At one side of cover 10, there is provided a first vertical side wall 16 which merges with a first upwardly and diagonally extending segment 18. In turn, a second segment 20 formed after bight 22 lies adiacent to tirst seament 18. The side terminates with a terminal segment 24 which is angled away from first vertical side wall 16. As may be seen this structure fits within a recess of the gutter.
There are provided a plurality of apertures 26 in planar portion 14. It will also be noted that planar portion 14 slopes downwardly from first vertical side wall 16.
There is provided a substantiallv verticallv extendiniz second side wall 28.
At the upper end of second side wa1128, there is provided a first inwardly and upwardly extending segment 30 and a second segment 32 which lies adjacent thereto. A support wal144 extends downwardly to an angled segment 36 and a terminal segment 38. It will be noted that there are provided a plurality of apertures 40 in support member 34.
In use, cover 10 is secured to rear side wall 42 of gutter 12 by means of fastening members (preferably screws) which extend through second side wall 28 and support member 34 through a drip edge (not shown) and the rear wall 42 through the facia of the building.
The above arrangement provides for rapid installation as the drip edge can fit within the slight gap between gutter rear wal142 and support member 34. Segments 30 and 32 act
