Abstract

Disclosed is a drinking vessel, cup or mug enhanced to provide a digital thermo electronic display of the temperature of the liquid contents. The display of the temperature of the liquid contents is presented in a digital format and serves to inform and/or warn the user in order for the user to avoid the drinking of liquids of extreme temperature. A sensor is affixed to the bottom interior of the plastic liner. The sensor probe within the plastic liner provides for the temperature sampling its contents. The sensor probe is connected to the electronic integrated circuit board mounted between the plastic liner and the outer stainless steel or plastic outer shell. The bottom of the inner plastic liner houses the switch for changing the display readout between farenheight and Celsius and also contains the battery.

Description

SPECIFICATION
ELECTRIC TEMPERATURE INDICATING DRINKING VESSEL
This invention, "Electric Temperature Indicating Drinking Vessel" enhances the utility of the ordinary drinking cup, mug or vessel by providing visual information on the temperature of liquids contained therein, thereby allowing the user to take note of the temperature of the liquid contained therein before using or consuming the contents of the cup mug or vessel.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Drinking cups and mugs have long been known since the Bronze Age and widely used.
Most commonly drinking vessels were crafted from pottery or wood and later metal and glass. Much later plastics were introduced into their manufacture. These drinking vessels are most commonly cylindrical and may or may not have a handle or stem. They may be open at the top or may have a lid or cap of some type, either hinged or held in place by friction or fasteners.
Drinking vessels are commonly used to contain beverages of a wide range of types and temperatures. Thus far, an indication of temperature of the contents was by means of the senses of the hand or mouth, and in one innovation by means of the changing of color of the container.
Drinking vessels which bear various innovations are shown, for example, in the following United States of America patents and Canadian patents:
324453 Freeman 2134924 Shikami, U.S.A.
2274588 Marshall & Leslie 23 863 84 Gallo SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
It is the object of this invention to enhance the utility and safety to the user by visually displaying the temperature of the contents of the "Electric Temperature Indicating Drinking Vessel" by means of an integral battery powered digital thermometer.
In the drawing which form part of this specification, Fig. 1 Is an elevation of one embodiment, showing a partial cross section of both the outer shell an the inner plastic liner and a bottom cap.
Fig. 2 Is a top elevation view showing the interior of the inner plastic liner and the temperature probe within.
Fig. 3 Is an exploded elevation view showing the plastic or stainless steel outer shell the electric thermometer module, the plastic inner liner and the plastic bottom cap.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
In the particularly enhanced embodiment of the invention illustrated, the outer shell 10 is of cylindrical tube having a rectangular opening 18 oriented horizontally on the upper portion wherein the digital thermometer assembly 13 is inserted from the interior side.
The plastic liner 12 is thermoformed so that the upper edge friction fits onto the top edge of outer shell 10. The plastic liner 12 has a recessed area 14 that when the plastic liner is seated onto the upper edge of outer shell 10 which aligns with. the rectangular opening 18 thereby creating a space for the embedded digital thermometer assembly 13 between the plastic liner 12 and outer shell 10.
The inner plastic liner 12 tapers inward as it extends downward from the top edge of the outer shell 10. The bottom surface of the liner 12 is recessed upward on the lower exterior surface to provide a containment area for a temperature sensor 15, a battery 16 and a switch 17. The lower edge of the liner aligns parallel with the lower edge of the outer shell 10 where the tapered surface becomes cylindrical in order to mate with the bottom cover 11. The upper surface of the liner recess is perforated by a single hole into which the temperature probe 15 is mounted to extend from the exterior of the recessed surface into the base interior of the liner 12 where it can come into contact with the contents if any, of the liner 12 and thereby transmit the electrical signal to the electric thermometer assembly 13 by means of wiring for translation and display of the contents temperature.
The bottom thermoformed plastic cap 11 incorporates two cylindrical extensions of which the inner bears integral threads which mate with the liner 12 in order to lock the bottom cap 11 in place and close off the bottom of the outer shell 10 and the plastic inner liner 12.

Claims (3)

1. A drinking cup, mug or vessel, which embodies an integrated battery powered digital thermometer to display the temperature of liquids contained therein.
2. A drinking cup, mug or vessel as claimed in claim 1, which combines an assembly of a stainless steel or plastic outer shell, a plastic inner liner, a plastic lid and a plastic bottom cap with the integration of a sub assembly battery powered digital thermometer with the temperature display imbedded on the upper portion of the outer shell.
3. A drinking cup, mug or vessel as claimed in claim 1 and claim 2, in which the components of the integrated circuit board thermometer is imbedded between the outer shell and the inner liner to provides a digital numeric readout capable of being switched to read in either Fahrenheit or Celsius being powered by a AAA battery and having the switches for on /off and Fahrenheit or Celsius display mounted within a recess on the bottom exterior of the inner plastic liner and covered by a plastic cap which serves as the base of the entire assembly.
