Description
RETURN AIR ACCESS PANEL
DESCRIPTION
This product is a RETURN AIR ACCESS PANEL- that is flitted to the front of ventilation equipment.
The panel consists of a one-piece frame complete with a mounting flange (A3) and a return air intake grille (A1 ). A filter guide is welded to the rear of the panel (A2) which serves to hold a filter in place directly behind the louvers: The door is removable to allow access to the interior for servicing.
The prototype dimensions are height = 50", width = 16" and depth 1.5".
Dimensions may be altered in order to accommodate different units of varying CFM (airflow) requirements. (See Appendix A and B for drawings and specifications).
An upright, frontal view (Appendix A) shows an opening (length = 18n by width = 13.750") near the bottom which consists of 24 stationary louvers. The louvers have been machine punched into the panel and are a permanent and constituent element of the one-piece frame. The number of louvers may vary as panel dimensions are modified to custom fit various ventilation units. The flange (width = 1.5") is also a consitituent component of the one-piece frame.
The fitter guide, spofinrelded to the back of the frame (A3), reinforces the strength of the panel; the benefits of which will be discussed below.
The removable door (A4), is a panel with two punched slots which act as hooks;
located at each side, near the top of the panel (B1 ). The door is mounted to the one-piece frame by clasping the hooks to complementary pins (B2) that are located inside the opening of the one- piece frame, on each side of the flange. The affixed door sits flush against the surface of the frame.
The 22 gauge door and 20 gauge frame are made of satin coat material. Although other materials may be substituted, a minimum thickness of 20 gauge is recommended to preserve the strength of the one-piece frame.
Mode of Manufacture:
Blank sizes for frame, door and filter guides may be cut with a hydraulic shear or CNC punch followed by bending. Pins are pressed onto the flange of the access panel frame. The filter guide is spotwelded to the back to further reinforce the strength of the one-piece frame.
Operation/Uses:
The RETURN AIR ACCESS PANEL can be fitted to vertical and horizontal fan coils, heat pumps and any equipment associated with air movement; filtration, cooling and heating. Returning air enters through the louver section and adjacent filter before continuing through to the ventilation equipment. The removable door provides access for servicing equipment.
There are many structural and functional advantages which make the RETURN AIR
ACCESS
PANEL superlative to the access panels currently on the market, The following are some features of the RETURN AIR ACCESS PANEL:
ONE PIECE FRAME
Strength Prior devices have a four piece frame that is assembled into one piece with corner brackets. Manufacturing the frame as one solid piece makes it stronger.
Reduced The louvers of prior devices are individual pieces that are assembled to form Vibration/Noisethe louvered grille. When are air passes through the grille, the individual louvers may vibrate and cause noice.
The louvres of the RETURN AIR ACCESS PANEL are a constituent part of the one-piece panel. Since they are punched directly into the panel which has a considerable thickness of at least 20 gauge, there is no vibration when the ventilation equipment is operating and consequently, no noise.This is ideal for units in hospitals, hotels and schools.
Safety The benefit of louvres as a constituent part of the one piece frame offers a safety issue. Since the louvres are located near the bottom, they are often hit or kicked. Once bent, they become weak and malleable and may snap off. This poses a risk to small children who are then able to put fingers or instruments through the enlarged spaces and potentially making contact with the electrical components located behind the filter.
Cost All access panels currently on the market are constructed with several Effectiveness components. Flanges, panels and louvres must all be joined to form the and precision finished product. These numerous steps reduce the cost effectiveness and subsequently increase the sale price.
The one-piece design of the RETURN AIR ACCESS PANEL involves few stages in manufacturing, making it cost effective. In addition, less handling reduces the otential for errors.
REMOVABLE DOOR
Convenience Prior devices consist of hinged doors which are not removable.
When units need to be serviced, the door must be held open in order to gain access to components inside. This is awkv~rard as one must hold up the door while working. A removable door simplifies the task because the door is simply removed and set aside. The hook/pin fastening system makes removal and re lacin it ve eas .
