Abstract

The present invention relates to a manufacturing process of a multipolar cable comprising at least one pair of cores, each core comprising at least one conductive element and at least one layer of electrical insulation in a position which is radially external to said at least one conductive element.
This process comprises the steps of: a) assembling said at least one pair of cores so as to form an assembled element having a plurality of interstitial zones between said cores, and b) depositing by co-extrusion an expandable polymeric material in a position which is radially external to said cores so as to fill said interstitial zone and to form a filling layer of substantially zone and to form a filling layer of substantially circular transverse cross section, and at least one containment layer of polymeric, and at least one containment layer of polymeric material in a position radially external to said filling layer. The present invention also relates to a multipolar cable obtained from said process.

Claims (17)

1. Manufacturing process of a multipolar cable (10) comprising at least one pair of cores, each core ,comprising at least one conductive element (1) and at least one layer of electrical insulation (2) in a position radially external to said at least one conductive element (1), said process comprising the steps of:
a) assembling at least one pair of cores to form an assembled element (20) provided with a plurality of interstitial zones (3) between said cores, and b) depositing by co-extrusion:
.cndot. an expandable polymeric material in a position radially external to said cores so as to fill said interstitial zones (3) and form a filling layer (4) of substantially circular transverse cross section, and .cndot. at least one containment layer (5) of polymeric material in a position radially external to said filling layer (4).
2. Process according to Claim 1, characterized in. that it also comprises the step of depositing by co-extrusion at least one further layer (6) of expanded polymeric material in a position radially external to said containment layer (5).
3. Process according to Claim 1 or 2, characterized in that said expanded polymeric material expands during said deposition step.
4. Process according to Claim 1, characterized in that said assembling step comprises the step of helicoidally winding together said at least one pair of cores in accordance with a predetermined pitch.

Multipolar cable (10) comprising at least one pair of cores, each core comprising at least one conductive element (1) and at least one layer of-electrical insulation (2) in a position radially external to said at least one conductive element (1), said cores being twisted together so as to form an assembled element (20) provided with a plurality of interstitial zones (3) between said cores, said interstitial zones (3) being filled with an expanded.
polymeric material to form a filling layer (4), said expanded polymeric material being co-extruded with at least one containment layer (5) of polymeric material located in a position radially external to said filling layer (4).
6. Multipolar cable (10) according to Claim 5, characterized in that it also comprises at least one further layer (6) of expanded polymeric material in a position radially external to said containment layer (5).

Multipolar cable (10) according to Claim 5 or 6, characterized in that said expandable polymeric material of said filling layer (4), said polymeric material of said containment layer (5) and said expandable polymeric material of said further layer (6) located in a position radially external to said containment layer (5) are selected separately from, each other from polyolefin polymers or copolymers based on ethylene and/or propylene.

Multipolar cable (10) according to Claim 7, characterized in that said expandable polymeric material of said filling layer (4), said polymeric material of said containment layer (5), and said expandable polymeric material of said further layer (6) located in a position radially external to said containment layer (5) are selected, separately from each other, from:
a) ethylene copolymers with an ethylenically unsaturated ester in which the quantity of unsaturated ester is comprised between 5% and 80%
by weight, b) elastomeric copolymers of ethylene with at least one C3-C12 .alpha.-olefin, and optionally a dime, having the following composition: 35%-90% as moles of ethylene, 10%-65% as moles of .alpha.-olefin, 0%-10% as moles of dime, c) copolymers of ethylene with at least one C4-C12 .alpha.-olefin, and optionally a dime, having a density between 0.86 and 0.90 g/cm3, d) polypropylene modified with ethylene/C3-C12 .alpha.-olefin copolymers where the ratio by weight between polypropylene and the ethylene/C3-C12 .alpha.-olefin copolymer is comprised between 90/10 and 30/70.
9. Multipolar cable (10) according to any one of Claims to 8, characterized in that the expansion degree of said filling layer (4) is comprised between 5%
and 500%.
10.Multipolar cable (10) according to Claim 9, characterized in that said expansion degree is comprised between 10% and 200%.
11.Multipolar cable (10) according to Claim 10, characterized in that said expansion degree is comprised between 20% and 150%.
12.Multipolar cable (10) according to Claim 6, characterized in that the expansion degree of said further layer (6) is comprised between. 5% and 500%.
13. Multipolar cable (10) according to Claim 12, characterized in that said expansion degree is comprised between 10% and 200%
14. Multipolar cable (10) according to Claim 13, characterized in that said expansion degree is comprised between 20% and 150%.
15. Multipolar cable (10) according to any one of Claims 5 to 14, characterized in that the thickness of said containment layer (5) is comprised between 0.1 and 1.5 mm.
16. Multipolar cable (10) according to Claim 15, characterized in that said thickness is comprised between 0.2 and 1.0 mm.
17. Multipolar cable (10) according to Claim 16, characterized in that said thickness is comprised between 0.5 and 0.7 mm.
