Abstract
A filter comprising a body, a filtering assembly and a mounting arm will be described and illustrated herein. The body is provided with an inlet, an outlet and a filter aperture sized to receive the filtering assembly including a mechanical filter. The mounting arm is so mounted to the body as to be pivotable between a securing position where it secures the filtering assembly to the body and a non-securing position where it allows the filtering assembly to be removed from the body.
Description
TITLE OF THE INVENTION
Filter FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to filters. More specifically, the present invention is concerned with filters for the printing industry.
BACKGI~Ot~ND OF THE INVENTION
In the printing industry, it is required to filter liquids, such as inks, before they are used to prevent undesired particles from reaching the printing presses. Indeed, these particles can cause poor quality prints or even damage printing equipment.
Conventionally, the printing industry uses bulky filters that are difficult to open and to clean.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of the present invention is therefore to provide an improved filter for the printing industry.
Other objects, advantages and features of the present invention will become more apparent upon reading of the following non-restrictive description of illustrative embodiments thereof, given by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
In the appended drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a filter according to an illustrative embodiment of the present invention;
Figure 2 is a sectional side elevation view of the filter of Figure 1 in a closed position; and Figure 3 is a sectional side elevation view of the filter of Figure 1 in an open position.
Turning now to the appended figures, a filter 10 according to an illustrative embodiment of the present invention will be described.
The filter 10 includes three main elements: a body 12S a filtering assembly 14 and a pivotable mounting arm 16.
As can be better seen in Figure 2, the body 12 is generally rectangular and includes a central receptacle 18 open to the top via a filter-receiving aperture 20. The body 12 also includes an outlet 22 and an inlet 24.
The filtering assembly 14 includes a cap 26; a seal 28 interposed between the cap 26 and the body 12; a mechanical finer in the form of a cylindrical screen 30 mounted to a projection 32 of the cap 26;
and a magnetic filter in the form of a cylindrical magnet 34 mounted to a longitudinal threaded aperture 36 of the cap 26.
The cap 26 also includes a fitting 38 threaded in the aperture 36 to close this aperture and to provide a sacrificial element for mounting the cap to the body as will be described hereinbelow.
Returning to Figure 1, the pivotable mounting arm 16 includes an inverted U-shaped element 40 pivotably connected to the body 12 via fasteners 42 (only one shown) and a pressure applying element in the form of a manually operable fastener 44 mounted through a threaded aperture 46 of the U-shaped element 40 (see Figure 2).
Figure 2 shows the filter 10 in an operating position. In this position, the filter 10 will mechanically and magnetically filter fluid entering through the inlet 24 and will allow this filtered fluid to egress via the outlet 22. Indeed, fluid entering the receptacle 18 via the inlet 24 will flow over the magnet 34 and pass through the cylindrical screen 30 before exiting the assembly through the outlet 22.
It will easily be understood that the fastener 44 applies a pressure on the fitting 38 to adequately and sealingly maintain the cap 26 to the body 12.
On the other hand, Figure 3 illustrates the removal of the filtering assembly 14 from the body 12 for cleaning purposes, for example.
In the appended drawings:

To remove the filtering assembly 14, the user simply has to turn the fastener 44 counter-clockwise (see arrow 46 in Figure 2) and then to pivot the assembly 16 downwards (see arrows 48 and 50 in Figure 3) thereby allowing the filtering assembly 14 to be removed from the receptacle 18 of the body 12. The filtering assembly 14 may then be cleaned and reinstalled using the reverse procedure.
It is to be noted that each element of the filter 10 is made of non-corrosive and washable material to facilitate the cleaning of the filter.
Although the present invention has been described hereinabove by way of preferred embodiments thereof, it can be modified, without departing from the spirit and nature of the subject invention as defined in the appended claims.
