Description

'--' Gall Animal Waste and Debris Removal Apparatus Paee 1 Appiication for Patent Inventor Brian Gall, Calgary, Alberta, Canada Assignee The Urban Forester, Alberta, Canada Title ANIMAL WASTE AND DEBRIS REMOVAL, APPARATUS
Field of the Invention The Invention has particular application, but is not thereby limited, in the field of animal waste and debris removal. In particular, the Invention, in one embodiment, is an apparatus that enables the removal from the ground of animal waste and debris, such as goose droppings, garbage and small rocks.
Background of the Invention For the past many years there has been an increasing problem with amount of animal waste and debris covering the ground. Specifically, many areas in North America are experiencing problems with numerous quantities of goose droppings and debris littering public parks, gardens and golf courses.
The art of removing objects from the ground has been known for some time. See US
Patent No. 5,417,538, which discloses an apparatus for scooping an article from the ground, such as golf balls, and US Patent No 5,742,968, an apparatus for removing debris from the ground. Also see US Patent No. 5,596,784, a vehicle for collecting debris from a road involving a rotary rake and conveyor belt, and CDN Patent No.
2.198,785, disclosing a rock-picking device mounted on loaders or tractors.
It is also well known in the art to use a sweeper or rotary brush to remove or clean items.
See for example US Patent No. 5,742,968, which is comprised of a rotatable cylindrical brush and shaft, and US Patent No. 5,390,387 (CDN Patent No. 2,135,980), a self-propelled, hand-guided sweeping apparatus with rotary brush on chassis and wheels.
Also see US Patent No. 3,947,912, which describes a manually operated sweeper with wheeled frame and rotary brush.

Gall Animal Waste and Debzis Removal Apparatus Summary of the Invention It is an objet of the Invention to overcome limitations in the prior art of waste and debris removal equipment and methods. The existing prior art inadequately addresses the need for an affordable and efficient means and method for removing waste and debris. None of the prior art discloses a practical invention that utilizes a four-wheeled, rotary brush apparatus, with removable containers, that can be attached to and pulled by a smaller vehicle, such as an ATV or tractor.
1 ~0 The Invention relates to waste removal. T'he Invention has application in the field of park maintenance, where, for health and aesthetic reasons, it is particularly beneficial to clean the ground.
1:5 The Invention was designed to assist in the removal of animal waste and debris from grassy or paved areas. The Invention enables the efficient and uncomplicated removal of unsightly and foul animal waste and debris, as it picks up bird and animal droppings, dirty syringes and condoms, cigarette butts, pagers, leaves and twigs, and lightly agitates grass while lifting unwanted materials into lightweight molded plastic removable 2~D containers.
The Invention is also environmentally friendly as it helps remove bird and other animal droppings and increases compost harnaround. Further, the rotary brush speed may be increased to arable the cleaning of walkways, parking lots and warehouse floors.
2:5 To summarize its operation, the Invention involves the use of collection buckets and a rotary brush powered by a motor, mounted to a covered frame with wheels, pivotal hitch and auxiliary hitch. The Invention is towed or pulled behind an ATV, tractor or other vehicle. A motor powers the rotary brush in a counterclockwise direction, such that the 3n brush lifts loose objects located on the ground and propels the objects such that they land in the collection buckets, or hit against the inner body of the lid and then fall into the collection buckets. Flaps are located in front of the rotary brush and on the lid to ensure that the lifted objects are directed towards the collection buckets. The collection buckets are removable, may be carried and are covered by a lid when placed in the frame to
3.5 prevent flying debris and waste. The lid covering the collection buckets may also be lii3ed and is fastened to the frame by a lid Latch. A lift assist cylinder enables the lid to be lifted and held in an upright position. A pivot selector enables the Invention to be towed directly behind the vehicle, to the left or to the right, and may be selected manually, electronically, or by an actuator.
4~D
A vacuum suction device and storage trailer may be added at the rear of the Invention to complement the storage capacity of materials removed, and a cutting device may be inserted behind the rotary brush to enable a simultaneous removal and cutting function.
