Abstract

A disposable syringe having a retractable needle and a spring (17) for automatically withdrawing the plunger (1) from the barrel after injection, wherein plunger-locking projections (19) prevent the plunger from being reinserted into the sleeve. The projections pierce the plunger automatically when excessive force is exerted thereon, whereby the plunger (1) is damaged and the syringe is rendered useless.

The invention relates to a needle syringe.
5 retractable, in particular intended for ~ `-h- ~ r reusa-tion of the syringe after a first use.
US-A-5,267,976 discloses a canary-like this. It includes a body bearing to a end of the injection needle support means, 10 a piston movable in said body, a protective sheath inside which is likely to slide said body, a res60rt placed between the hole and the body.
Means for locking the sheath on the body comprising have first and second shoulders of the same direction on 15 the outer wall of the body and at least one first lug flexible carried by a part integral with the sheath that is ie the sheath itself or for example a sleeve which is in solidarity with it. The lug coop ~ re in abutment with the first shoulder to define a first position of 2 0 blocking of the body relative to the hole in the first direction, the spring being compressed and the needle out of the scabbard in this first position. The lug cooperates also with the second ~ 6r ~ 7t to define a second locking position in the same direction, the spring being 25 at least gone ~ ll. The loose and the needle being returned trée in the sheath in this second position. The changing from the first position to the second position is made by the cooperation of the piston with said first flexible lug for releasing said piston at the end of its travel 30 the lug of the first shoulder and thus provoke under the effect of the spring the recoil of the body in the sheath until it locks in second position. The syringe further carries at least a second flexible lug and a third shoulder, in opposite direction respectively to 35 first lug and at the first two shoulders, posi-_ _ _ _ 21,835 ~
Wo 95l23004. ~ l ~ r ~ S 1 ~ 1 0 tionnées respectively on the sheath (or the sleeve) and the wall of the body to block the body in the sheath, when it is in the second locking position, in the opposite direction from the first direction. t In the preferred version of this syringe, naked, two lugs of each type are provided, formed in squaring in a sleeve secured to the sheath at its the top part.
This syringe is generally satisfactory, but it can happen that if we try to push back absolutely the body in the scabbard after use, at 1 against the locking lugs, these can be break and get caught between the body and the sheath, now thus malen ~ LL ~ wear the needle in posi-tion partially out. The present invention has for aim of bringing new improvements to a serin-gue of the type above which still contain the reliability and security.
According to a first aspect of the invention, the serine-gue is expected to destroy itself if one attempts to force when it is in its blocking position after use. To this end, at least one of the pins, of preferably that of the pins which prevents reinsertion of the body in scabbard after use, arching buttressing against an edge of a groove formed outside rement in the body, is arranged to pierce the body when the force exerted by the user on the body compared to the scabbard is clearly excessive.
In other words, when the effort exerted by the lug on said border exceeds a value considered as normal male, the bottom wall of the groove will be pierced by the lug.
To this end, the bottom wall of the groove is advantageously provided fairly thin, which is made pos-sible by forming said groove in the immediate vicinity of 2t ~ 3JFq9 WO 9 ~ l23004 3 _l / r ~ ~ ~ 1 the lower end of the body. The lug is preferably sharp or piercing: it is formed bevel or point, and made of a material harder than that which constitutes the syringe body.
5 Provision may be made to associate at least one lug with the base an integrated or separate reinforcement, in the form of sur-~ sp; ~; RR ~ llr of the base or of: ollLL ~ anti-lifting support adjacent to the base of the side of the obtuse angle formed by the lug and the wall.
Advantageously, the body is extended by a same skirt ~ r ~ LIe at the support means needle.
The pins are formed in the sleeve and this can include a distant part upstream of the pins 15 for guiding the body.
Various frangible areas can be provided on the syringe.
Other characteristics or advantages of the in-vention will emerge from the following description of a mode 20 preferred realization.

- Figure 6 is a view of another mode of lug creation.
Figures 1 to 4 show a set of canaries gue consisting of a body 1 substantially cylindrical and having one open end and one end partially closed or melted.
Holding on to the bottom, a tip 5 comprising ufrusto-conical part of the nipple fixing a needle-the classic, not shown, with a fixing attachment conical. The end piece 5 is pierced with a bore 8 making provide the interior of the body with the bore of 1 needle.
Through the open end of the body 1, can penetrate in the body 1 a piston 13, with a cruciform rod 11 (or a only three fins, so ~ rn-; CPr la material) and pusher 12, sliding freely 1 laughing body 1. A bulge 42 linked to the pusher 12 and therefore to the piston, is formed by a disk of ~ 'LLI: light-rement higher than di 'L 2 outside the body 1.
A substantially cylindrical sheath 14 is mounted sliding on the body 1. At one of its extremities, its wall narrows to form an orifice sufficient to the passage of the pin 5 for fixing the needle, and of which the outline can serve as a support for a compression spring sion 17, the other end of which rests on a shoulder of body 1, at its end. Spring 17 is maintained during its ~ L ~ 66ion around the body, even-tually using fins 4.
A substantially cylindrical sleeve 40 is made integral with sheath 14 at its upper end by any suitable means, for example by gluing or welding of two Opp flanges, .c ~ c 41, 43 formed at the respective edges tifs of the sleeve 40 and of the sheath 14. The material of the sleeve 40 is advantageously more rigid than that which constitutes the sheath 14 and the body 1.

The sleeve 40 carries the support flange 18 of the syringe.
The opposite lugs 19 and 20 are provided in gua-groove inside said sleeve 40 and can be made in one piece with it, for example by molding. The two pins 19 are directed downwards and are likely to come to cooperate with a first shoulder Lement 21 of the body 1 formed by the edge of a groove 43 ' arranged outside of its upper edge to effect kill a first blockage of the body 1 in the sheath 14, in the position of Figures 1 and 2 corr ~ pon ~ lAnt a the arming of the syringe, where the spring 17 is compressed.
The same pins 19 are likely to deviate under the action of the disc 42 when the piston 13 is pressed into the body 1. The spring 17 then relaxes and pushes back and move the sheath 14 away from the body 1 until the second blocking position in laguelle the pins 19 cooperate with a second peripheral edge 23 (position mon-trée on Figures 3 and 4) located ~ the base of the body 1, and formed by the lower edge of a groove 45 practiced in said body.
The lugs 19 and the shoulder 23 therefore prevent to withdraw the body 1 and its needle from the sheath 14 which then covers it.
The second lugs 20, acting in opposite directions lugs 19, are intended to prohibit a new exit of needle 6 out of the sheath. For this, the lugs 20. ~ 31el ~ t (see Figure 3 ~ with a third shoulder 24 (opposite to shoulders 21 and 23), constituted by the upper edge of the groove 45. From so, after the injection, the body 1 remains blocked, both forwards and backwards, in the position shown in Figure 3 and the needle is inaccessible.
Naturally, the completely conventional piston 13 can 3 5 be removed from body 1.
_ , 21 8 ~ 599 Wo ss / 23004 6 P ~ l / r ~ S l C 1 0 The width of the shoulders 23 and 24, that is to say the depth of the groove 45 is advantageously the same as that of shoulder 21.
Confu ~ the invention, lugs 20 and possibly the pins 19 are arranged to be able pierce the wall of the body 1 when they are subjected to excessive effort against the shoulder with which they cooperate, reflecting an attempt to recover the needle.
To this end, the lug ends advantageously bevel or point with two rectangular sides or four triangular sides 46 (Figure 5), which puts to pierce the thinned wall of the body 1 at the level of the groove 45 forming the shoulders 23, 24.
Although the lugs are already formed in the sleeve 40 plastic, stiffer than body 1, we can further increase their rigidity by providing their rattAr ~ ~ to the sleeve 40 a surprise ~ lr 46 (f igure 5).
More advantageously, so as not to harm the flexibility that the lug must keep in one direction, the er-got is expected to be quite thin (Figure 6) and includes, cent at its base and above it, a short rigid support to which the lug can be applied when it is pushed up and which avoids the arrArh 1 of the lug.
The material constituting the lug is a material ~
good shape memory, because it must be able to keep its elasticity during the average storage time of syringes (3 to 5 years).
The groove 45 forming the two recesses 23, 24 is ~ r- ~ PP as low as possible on the body of syringe, to be near the base of the body 1.
This makes it possible to provide a relatively deep groove, leaving a thin bottom wall, faclle ~ pierce _ _ _ 218359 ~
WOss / 23oo4 7 pCr / FR94100211 by lugs l9 and / or 20. This groove may create - A weak area, n ~ ~ L during molding by injection: to ensure correct filling of the mold beyond the groove, it is preferable that the in-

5 jection is done at the lower part of the body l, near said groove.
Another advantage linked to the low position of the groove 45 is that the needle stroke is thus the as long as possible.
Therefore, for the same spring force, we can use a finer wire and increase the number of turns.
Moreover, the force npcpc ~; ~; re for the spring has no need to be very high since lugs l9 and 20, when passing from the stitching position in the retracted position, rub on the outside surface body without exerting force cnn ~ prable ~
the pins are not strongly compressed.
Like having the groove 45 very low on the body l causes the body l to come out more from the sheath 14 in the second syringe blocking position, the shorter fitting length of the body in the sheath can create a risk of misalignment between the body and the scabbard; it may be useful to extend the game lower body l by a cylindrical skirt sketched in 48 in f igure 4, the spring 17 is housed between said skirt 48 and the end piece 5. The ~ r'LL ,: of skirt 48 is that of the body, and it therefore helps to improve the guidance.
This guidance can also be improved by providing that the sleeve 40 includes a perimeter for guiding the body l, placed upstream of lugs l9, 20 at a distance Sufficiently large enough to provide this guidance.
This guide perimeter is advantageP ~ nt form 3s by the part of smaller diameter 49 of a shape in _ 21 83 ~ 99 Wo 95/23004 1. ~ t ~ 1 O
diabolo 50 provided upstream of the sleeve 40. The flared entrance diabolo 50 also facilitates the introduction of the piston 1 of the syringe during initial placement.
Various frangible areas can be provided 5 to further oppose attempts to reuse station. Such frangible areas are avanta ~ nt provided on the wings 18 of the sleeve and / or on the pusher of the piston, for example at a restriction 51 (figure 1).
To avoid unwanted decl ~ nrh - t syringe during r-nir ~ tions prior to injection (e.g. needed when mixing in the syringe various products), we can provide under the bulge 42 a removable safety pin, 15 r-mrBrh ~ nt, until it is removed, the bulge 42 to reach the level of the lugs 19 and therefore to trigger the ascent of the body 1.
