Abstract
A brief has a front panel and a rear panel, each substantially in the form of an inverted triangle having two upper, waist side vertices and a lower crotch side vertex.
The two upper vertex define therebetween an upper edge of the respective panel to define the waist openings to which an elastic waistband may be mounted. The lower vertex defines a converging side with each of the upper vertices to define a leg opening. Each of the vertices has an engaging area on each of the panels to which a releasable fastener is provided to releasably fix the front panel to the rear panel at the vertices so as to allow a wearer to put on the brief without bowing or squatting or standing in one leg.
Description
DETACHABLE BRIEF STRUCTURE
The present invention relates generally to underwear and in particular to a brief that is constituted by two separated, substantially triangular panels releasably secured at the vertices thereof to define the brief.
The briefs that are currently available in the market usually have a pull-on style that wearers have to pull them on from feet to waist in wearing the briefs. To wear such conventional briefs, the wearers have to either stand with one leg to fit the other leg into the leg opening of the brief or bowing or squatting. This can be easily done for healthy people. But for the elder or the sick, it may be difficult for them to do so for they may have weak legs that are not able to support the body with one leg only, or they may be incapable or partially incapable to bow and squat.
It is therefore desirable to provide a detachable brief structure which allows a wearer to put it on without standing in one leg or bowing or squatting so as to overcome the disadvantages of the conventional briefs.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a detachable brief which comprises separated front and rear panels to be releasably secure to each other around the waist and hip so as to overcome the disadvantages of the prior art brief.
In accordance with the present invention, a brief is disclosed, comprising a front panel and a rear panel, each substantially in the form of an inverted triangle having two upper, waist side vertices and a lower crotch side vertex.
The two upper vertex define therebetween an upper edge of the respective panel to define the waist openings to which an elastic waistband may be mounted. The lower vertex defines a converging side with each of the upper vertices to define a leg opening. Each o~ the vertices has an engaging area on each of the panels to which a releasable fastener is provided to releasably fix the front panel to the rear panel at the vertices so as to allow a wearer to put on the brief without bowing or squatting or standing in one leg.
The present invention will be better understood from the following description of illustrative but non-limitative preferred embodiments of the present invention, with reference to the attached drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a detachable brief structure in accordance with a first embodiment of the present invention in an open condition wherein the front panel and the rear panel are detached from each other;
Figure~ 2A, 2B and 2C show the sequence of wearing the detachable brief of the first embodiment of the present invention; and Figure 3 is a perspective view showing a detachable brief made in accordance with a second embodiment of the present invention in an open condition, wherein the crotch side detachable engagement and the waist side detachable engagement are opened.
With reference to the drawings and in particular Figure 1, wherein a detachable brief made in accordance with a first embodiment the present invention is shown in an open condition, the detachable brief, generally designated with reference 1 in Figure 1, comprises a front panel 10 and a rear panel 11, both substantially in the form of an inverted triangle having a substantially straight upper edge, as viewed '- 21 77338 in Figure 1, defined between two upper, waist side vertices of the triangle and two converging sides which extends to and are connected by a third, lower crotch side vertex of the triangle.
Each of the vertices of the front and rear panels ~0 and 11 defines an engaging area 101 and 102, 111 and 112 and 103, 113 on the front panel 10 and the rear panel 11. The engaging areas 101, 102 and 103 of the front panel 10 correspond in location to the counterpart engaging areas 111, 112 and 113 of the rear panel 11 and are to engage and fix to each other with releasable fastening means 2 attached to the engaging areas 101, 111, 102, 112 and 103, 113. Once the mating engaging areas 101, 111; 102, 112; 103, 113 are secured to each other, the front panel 10 is fixed to the rear panel 11 and thus forms a complete brief 1. The upper edges of the panels 10 and 11 define the waist opening of the brief 1 and the converging sides of the panels 10 and 11 define the two leg openings of the brief 1.
The releasable fastening means 2 that is provided at each of the vertices to detachably fix the front panel 10 to the rear panel 11 may comprise any known fastening means that allows the front panel 10 to be readily, repeatedly releasably detachable from the rear panel 11. A preferred embodiment of the releasable fastening means 2 is the so called "Velcro~' fastener, generally indicated at 20, which includes a pad of loop section 202 fixed to each of the engaging areas 101, 102 or 103 of the front panel 10, for example by means of seaming and a pad of hook section 201 fixed to each of the engaging areas 111, 112 or 113 of the rear panel 11. The Velcro fasteners 20 not only fixes the front panel 10 to the rear panel 11, but also provide the function of adjustment of the size of the waist and leg openings to allow the brief 1 to fit for wearers of different ages and sizes.
An elastic waistband 13 may be attached to the upper flat edge of each of the panels 10 and 11 by known means, such as seaming so as to provide a contractible waist opening.
Figures 2A-2C illustrate the sequence of wearing the brief 1 illustrated in Figure 1. The front panel 10 and the rear panel 11 are respective placed on the front side and rear side of a wear (shown in phantom lines). One of the waist side fasteners 20, for example the left side one as shown in Figure 2A, is then secured to have the loop pad 202 of the engaging area 101 of the front panel 10 attached to the hook pad 210 of the engaging area 111 of the rear panel 11 and then the right side fastener 20 is secured by attaching the loop pad 202 of the engaging area 102 to the hook pad 201 of the engaging area 112, as shown in Figure 2s. Finally, the crotch side fastener 20 is secured by attaching the loop pad 202 of the engaging area 103 of the front panel 10 to the hook pad 201 of the engaging area 113 of the rear panel 11, as shown in Figure 2C. This completes wearing the brief 1 of the present invention.
It may also be possible to simplify the brief structure shown in Figure 1. This is shown in Figure 3 in which a second embodiment of the present invention is illustrated.
The second embodiment brief, which is designated with reference numeral 1', comprises a front panel 10' and a rear panel 11', each being substantially in the form of an inverted triangle having three vertices, two upper, waist side vertices and one lower, crotch side vertex. One of the waist side vertices of the front panel 10' and the rear panel 11' are permanently secured together for example by means of seaming or adhesive or simply making the front panel and rear panel as a single piece by jointing them at the permanently secured vertex. The front and rear panels 10' and 11' remain separated from each other at the other waist side vertex and the crotch side vertex.
- 2~ 77338 Releasable fastening means 2' is provided at each of the vertices to releasably fix the front panel 10' to the rear panel 11' at the vertices. Similar to the first embodiment shown in Flgur~ 1, the releasably fastening means 2~ comprises Velcro fastener having loop pads 202' and hook pads 201'.
This arrangement allows a wear to simplify the procedure of wearing the brief in accordance with the present invention.
It is apparent that although the invention has been described in connection with the preferred embodiments, it is contemplated that those skilled in the art may make changes to the preferred embodiments without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
