~ LE: SEL~ DRILLING ANCXOR FOR WA~ MEM~ERS
2 sAcxGRo~ND OF T~E I~VENTION
3 1. Field of the Invention 4 The present invention relates to an anchor, and more particularly to a self drilling anchor for wall 6 members.
7 2. Description of the Prior Art 8 A typical anchor is disclosed in U.S. Patent No.
9 4,601,625 to Ernst et al., filed May 11, 1984. In this patent, a bolt is engaged in a hollow cylindrical body 11 which has a flanged end and a drilling end, the hollow 12 cylindrical body can be easily threaded through a 13 friable material by the drilling end. However, the 14 cylindrical body can not be stably retained in place and may become loose after it is engaged in the friable 16 material.
17 The present invention has arisen to mitigate 18 and/or obviate the afore-described disadvantages of the 19 conventional anchors for drywalls.
8UMMARY OF T~B INVBNTION
21 The primary objective of the present invention is 22 to provide a self drilling anchor whish can be stably 23 engaged in the wall member after it is threadedly 24 engaged in the wall member.
In accordance with one aspect of the invention, 26 there is provided an anchor for a wall member 27 comprising a tubular body including a flange formed on 28 a first end thereof and at least one first: tooth formed 20~00~
1 on a second end thereof, at least two stripes formed in 2 a middle portion of the tubular body and bendable at a 3 middle portion thereof, an inner thread formed in the 4 second end of the tubular body, a bolt engaged in the tubular body and threadedly engaged with the inner 6 thread of the tubular body, a stub threadedly engaged 7 with the bolt and including at least one second tooth 8 formed in a first end thereof for engagement with the 9 first tooth of the tubular body and including a drill gimlet formed in a second end thereof for drilling 11 through the wall member, whereby, the stripes are bent 12 at the middle portions thereof and are expanded so as 13 to fix the anchor in the wall ~ember when the bolt is 14 rotated in a drive direction.
Further objectives and advantages of the present 16 invention will become apparent from a careful reading 17 of the detailed description provided hereinbelow, with 18 appropriate reference to the accompanying drawings.
19 BRIFF DE~CRIPTION OF THE DRA~ING8 FIG. 1 is an exploded view of a self drilling 21 anchor in accordance with the present invention; and 22 FIGS. 2 and 3 are cross sectional views 23 illustrating the operhtions of the anchor.
24 DETAILED DESCRIP~ION OF_T~E PREFERQBD ENBODIMENT
Referring to the drawings, a self drilling anchor 26 in accordance with the present invention comprises 27 generally a tubular body 10 including a flange 11 28 formed on a first end and a plurality of ratchet teeth 2080Q6~

1 12 formed on the second end and four stripes 14 formed 2 in the middle portion thereof, each of the stripes 14 3 includes a pair of notches 15 formed in the middle 4 portion such that the stripes 14 are bendable at the S middle portion thereof, best shown in FIGS. 2 and 3. An 6 inner thread 16 is formed in the second end of the 7 tubular body 10. A bolt 18 extends through the tubular 8 body 10 and is threadedly engaged with the inner thread 9 16 of the tubular body 10 and includes a head 19 located close to the flange 11 of the tubular body 10 11 and engageable with the flange 11.
12 A stub 20 includes an inner thread 21 formed in a 13 first end thereof for threaded engagement with the bolt 14 18 and includes at least one tooth 22 formed on the first end for engagement with the ratchet teeth 12 of 16 the tubular body 10 and arranged such that the stub 20 17 is rotatable relative to the tubular body 10 in one 18 direction and is not rotatable in the other direction.
19 The stub 20 inrludes a drill ~imlet 23 formed on the second end thereof.
21 In operation, as shown in FIG. 2, the anchor can 22 be drilled into a wall member 30 by the drill gimlet 23 23 until-the flange 11 engages with the wall member 30, 24 the bolt 18 is then rotated in a drive direction, generally the clockwise direction when viewing toward 26 the bolt 18, such that the second end of the tubular 27 body 10 is caused to move toward the wall member 30 by 28 the engagement between the bolt 18 and the inner thread 20800~

1 16 formed in the second end of the tubular body 10, and 2 such that the stripes 14 are caused to be bent at the 3 middle portions, i.e., the stripes 14 are expanded, 4 further rotation of the bolt 18 solidly fixes the anchor to the wall member 30 such that the anchor will 6 not become loose. After the anchor is fixed in place, 7 the bolt 18 is rotated in a reverse direction, the 8 engagement between the tooth 22 of the stub 20 and the 9 teeth 12 of the tubular body 10 prevents the stub 20 to rotate relative to the tubular body 10, such that the 11 stub 20 can be disengaged from the bolt 18 when the 12 bolt 18 is rotated in the reverse direction, then the 13 bolt 18 can be disengaged from the tubular body 10, 14 best shown in FIG. 3. After the bolt 18 is disengaged from the tubular body 10, any object can be inserted 16 through the tubular body 10 and threaded with the inner 17 thread 16 of the tubular body 10 such that the object 18 can be engaged onto the wall member 30.
19 Alternatively, the bolt 18 may be rotated in the reverse direction first, in order to disengage the 21 stub, and the bolt 18 is then rotated in the drive 22 direction, in order to expand the stripes 14 of the 23 tubular body 10 and so as to fix the anchor in the wall 24 member 30.
Accordingly, the self drilling anchor in 26 accordance with the present invention can be solidly 27 fixed to the wall member and will not become loose.
28 Although this invention has been described with a 20~0065 1 certain degree of particularity, it is to be understood 2 that the present disclosure has been made by way of 3 example only and that numerous changes in the detailed 4 construction and the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the 6 spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter 7 claimed.
