Abstract

ABSTRACT

In a product for protecting clothing from perspiration, it is known to have a pad or absorbent material sewn or attached to the underarm areas of the clothing. In this invention, the pad is constructed of disposable paper and plastic, pressed in layers and backed with an adhesive. The pad is embossed so adjustment in size can be obtained by simply tearing off sections of the pad. A layer of odor neutralizer or perfume may be included in the pad to reduce odor. The pad is used once and disposed of by simply pulling the adhesive backed pad from the clothing.

Description

SPECIFICATION
This invention relates to a protective device for perspiration stains and odor on clothing.
Previously, cloth or similar materials have been fashioned into permanent sewn-in or velcro attached pads to absorb perspiration wetness and hold it away from clothing. Pads of this type are permanent which are unnecessarily bulky and hard to clean, or semi-permanent and must be removed, laundered and reinstalled. Also, they may remove or absorb moisture but do not keep it off the skin or cover or absorb odor. They must also be purchased in the correct size, or custom tailored to fit. Also, they are not available for use on short sleeved clothing.
I have found that these disadvantages may be overcome by making a pad of paper fibres of a soft, absorbent nature, layered with a perforated top layer and a self-adhesive bottom layer. Included in these layers, possibly a layer of deodorant, perfume or odor neutralizing material such as baking soda. The pad is embossed to also allow it to be reduced in size and changed in shape so it may adapt to a large variance in body shape and contour. The pad is designed to be used once and discarded so no laundering or cleaning is required.
The perforated plastic or poly top layer ~against skin) holds moisture away from the body.
In the drawing which serves to illustrate embodiments of the invent:
Figure 1: is an elevation as viewed from the top ~ -Figure 2: is a view as from the bottom Figure 3: is a side view in partial section of the embodiments.
The object illustrated is a "pad" comprised of layers of absorbent cotton or paper fibre (e) possibly in combination with an odor neutralizing or perfumed layer (f) with a perforated soft poly or plastic or paper layer (b) against skin (g). On the other side there is a layer of soft plastic that does not allow moisture to penetrate it coated with adhesive (d), covered until use by a peel-off backing (c). This combination of layers is sealed into a pad by crimping, gluing or otherwise sealing the edges together at (i). Areas (a) are crimped and embossed to allow sections to be ripped from pad to alter shape and size and to allow for a close fit.
