Abstract

A page for a photograph album, in which a base sheet and an overlying sheet are bound together by seams which run along the sides of the overlying sheet to form a pocket subdivided by further seams into at least three sub-pockets, the further seams extending only part way across the pocket whereby either horizontally or vertically oriented photographs may be accommodated.

Description

- FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to a page for a photograph album.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
In certain photograph albums the pages contain pockets formed of transparent sheets to receive and hold individual photographs. Such pockets are proportioned to receive rectangular photographs of only one orientation, either horizontal or vertical, making it necessary to rotate the album ninety degrees to view some of the mounted pictures or to make it necessary to provide different pages for pictures of the second orientation.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a page for a photograph album which will accommodate photographs of either horizontal or vertical orientation for viewing without having to rotate the page.

STATEMENT OF THE INVENTION
In its broadest aspect the invention consists of a page for a photograph album, comprising a rectangular base sheet and a rectangular sheet of transparent material overlying the base sheet, the overlying sheet being bound to the base sheet along a first seam at the upper and lower and one side edge of the overlying sheet to form a laterally opening pocket, the overlying sheet being bound to the base sheet also along at least two second seams extending laterally from said bound side edge arallel to said upper and lower edges to form at least three sub-pockets of equal width between the parallel seams, the distance between the free end of each of the second seams and that side edge of the overlying sheet opposite the bound side edge being at least equal to the width of each sub-pocket between the parallel seams whereby at least three equally sized photographic prints are insertable to lie beneath the overlying sheet in the sub-pockets and at least two of said prints are insertable to lie beneath the overlying sheet one against the free end of two of the second seams.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
An example of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a page of a photograph album;
Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view taken along the line 2-2 of Figure l; and Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view taken along the line 3-3 of Figure 1.

DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
The example embodiment shown in the drawings consists of a page 10 comprising a rectangular base sheet 12 and a pair of second rectangular sheets 14 of transparent material overlying the base sheet, one on each side thereof. Each overlying sheet 14 registers with base sheet 12 along upper edge 16 and lower edge 18 of each sheet and along one side edge 20 of each sheet and the sheets are bound together along these edges by a seam 22 to form a laterally open pocket 24 along the other side edge 26 of the overlying sheet. Another seam 28 also binding sheets 12 and 14 together, extends between edge 16 and 18 of each sheet parallel to edge 20 to provide a strip 30 carrying perforations 32 for 2a ~'~

` 1 335300 insertion of page 10 into a looseleaf binder. A pair of further binding seams 34 extend laterally from seam 28 towards side edge 26 of overlying sheets 14 to form three sub-pockets 36 on each side of base sheet 12. Seams 34 are equispaced between edges 16 and 18 of sheet 14 and terminate at a distance from edge 26 at least equal to the distance between the lateral seams of each sub-pocket 36.
Base sheet 12 extends laterally beyond edge 26 of overlying sheets 14 to form an index tab 38.
In use, three horizontally oriented rectangular photographs may be inserted lengthwise into sub-pockets 36 on each side of base sheet 12 of page 10 as indicated by numeral 40a in Figure 1. However, for photographs having vertically oriented pictures, two such pictures may be inserted into pocket 26 to abut the ends of seams 34 as indicated by numeral 40b in Figure 1.
The material used in base sheet 12 is preferably an opaque polypropylene sold under the trademark ALKORPROP by Alkor a division of Hedwin Corporation of Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A., which may be inscribed using a ballpoint pen. The material used in overlying sheet 14 is preferably clear polypropylene which doesn't react chemically with photographs.
It will be appreciated that page 10 may have only one overlying sheet 14 and that the edges of sheets 12 and 14 do not have to register. Also, strips 30 and 38 are optional.
It will be seen that the disclosed invention provides an album page which permits the insertion of either a horizontally `_ 1 335300 oriented or vertically oriented picture properly on the page. Also strip 38 provides an index tab which may be inscribed directly without having to adhere a paper tab.

Claims (7)

1. A page for a photograph album, comprising a rectangular base sheet and a rectangular sheet of transparent material overlying the base sheet, the overlying sheet being bound to the base sheet along a first seam at the upper and lower and one side edge of the overlying sheet to form a laterally opening pocket, the overlying sheet being bound to the base sheet also along at least two second seams extending laterally from said bound side edge parallel to said upper and lower edges to form at least three sub-pockets of equal width between the parallel seams, the distance between the free end of each of the second seams and that side edge of the overlying sheet opposite the bound side edge being at least equal to the width of each sub-pocket between the parallel seams whereby at least three equally sized photographic prints are insertable to lie beneath the overlying sheet in the sub-pockets and at least two of said prints are insertable to lie beneath the overlying sheet one against the free end of two of the second seams.
2. A page as claimed in claim 1 in which a further overlying sheet is bound to the base sheet on the other side of the base sheet.
3. A page as claimed in claim 1 in which the base sheet extends laterally beyond that side of the overlying sheet opposite the first seam to form an index strip.
4. A page as claimed in claim 1 including a third seam parallel to the first seam along said one side edge of the overlying perforations in the strip, the third seam forming the bound side edges of the sub-pockets.
5. A page as claimed in claim 1 in which the sheets are polyethylene.
6. A page as claimed in claim 5 in which each seam comprises a line of intermittent heat pressed bars.
7. A page as claimed in claim 1 in which the base sheet is polyethylene and extends laterally beyond one side of the overlying sheet to form an index strip.
