Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE

A transprinting-type error correction tape wherein a transprintable film is coated on one side of a base tape comprising unconnected parts on a film.

Description

The present inv~ntlon relates to a transferprinting-type error correction tape. More particularly, the present invention relates to a transferprinting-type error connection tape which permits errors to be deleted by placing, for axample, a white film coated on one side of a base tape onto an error part of a document, and then rubbing the base tape to transferprint a film onto the error part of a document from the base tape.

The inventor developed a transferprinting-type error correction tape instead of the conventional transferprinting-type error correction sheet. This transferprinting-type error correction tape, however, had a problem that the film became longer than a base tape, especially durin~
manufacture, being due to the difference in physical characteristics between the base tape and the ~ilm, creating useless wavy ~ilm while peeled o~f from the base tape.

According to the present invention there is provided a transfer-printing-type error correction tape comprising a plastic base tape and a multi-layer, transfer-printable film comprisPd of a plurality of portions longitudinally spaced along the length of said base tape, said transfer-printable film including at leask one layer including an opaque correcting material and at least 2~ one layer comprising a pressure sensi-tive adhesive, whereby spaces between adjacent longitudinally spaced por-tions of said transfer-printable film permit said film to expand at a different rate than said base tape.
3~ It is desirable to make film width narrower than base tape width, then coat the film at the center of the base tape while employing margins on both sides of the base tape.

In addition, it is convenient to have unconnected parts at regular intervals.

~ he following is a detailed description of the present invention referring to ~igures. Howevler, the present invention is not defined by this.

In the fi~ures, 1 is a base tape made of polypropylene. A white film 2 is employed on one side of the said base tape. This film is provided with 3 layers~ i.e., introducing from the base tape side, a layer of pigment, titanium oxide and inorganic material, a layer of pigment and titanium oxide and a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive.
Characters, etc. can be written on the film 2 after transprinting and coating.

15 The conventional base tapes and films are employable. It is desirable to have transparent or semi-transparent base tapes. A variety of film colors are selected depending on colors of document having errors.

The film 2 is made narrower than the base type 1 and coated at the center of the base tape 1. Accordingly, there exist the margins 3 of constant width on both sides of the base tape 1.

This margin portion 3 is mainly for protecting documents from a ball-point pen, etc. so that the docu~ents 25 are not soiled by a ball-point pen moved out of the base tape when the base tape is rubbed by means of a ball-point pen to transprint and coat the film. On this margin, graduations can be employed to decide the tape len~th to be used and exactly grasp the deleting portion.

~ owever, this margin can be omitted by coating the film 2 all over the base tape width. For such tapes, use a spatula, etc., i.e., other than writing tools, for rubbing.

On the film 2, 1 cm unconnected portions 4 are e~ployed at 20 cm intervals. (Note that the :Longitudinal length of the transfer-printing-type error correction tape is written comparatively short against the width in the figure.) The peeling-off of the film occurs when the film becomes longer than the base tape after coating. The expanded length is absorbed at both ends of longitudinal direction of the transfer-printing-type error correction tape. However, when the transfer-printing-type error correction tape length exceeds its limit, expansion cannot be absorbed at both ends, then peeling-off occurs.

In the transfering-printing-type error correction tape according to the present invention, expansion of the film is absorbed at the spaces or unconnected portions 4 b~tween each of the longitudinally spaced portions of the film 2. Therefore, the unconnected portions are employed at regular intervals. The interval is decided according to the difference of expanding characteristics of the film 2. For the base tape and the film used in the present embodiment, a maximum of 1 cm unconnected portions at 50 cm intervals is enough. In addition, it is not necessary to make intervals for unconnected portions very short.

The interval in the embodiment is 20 cm. This is decided referring that a line on the letter-size paper is deleted at one time. The longer intervals, for example 50 cm, are acceptable.

The tape and film widths and the margin width are selectable.

Similarly to adhesive tape~, the transfer-printing-type error correction tape is gPnerally reeled and stored in a tape dispenser. When using, is drawn out the necessary length of the tape from the tape dispenser. The conventional tape dispensers with well-known structures can be employed.

On the margins of both sides of the transfer-printing-type error correction tape, suitable graduations can be employed.

The film according to the present invention is not peeled off, because thQ film expansion is absorbed at the unconnected portions owing to the above-mentioned structure.

Claims (3)

1. A transfer-printing-type error correction tape comprising a plastic base tape and a multi-layer, transfer-printable film comprised of a plurality of portions longitudinally spaced along the length of said base tape, said transfer-printable film including at least one layer including an opaque correcting material and at least one layer comprising a pressure sensitive adhesive, whereby spaces between adjacent longitudinally spaced portions of said transfer-printable film permit said film to expand at a different rate than said base tape.
2. A transfer-printing-type error correction tape as set forth in claim 1, wherein said transfer-printable film is narrower than said base tape and centrally located on one side of said base tape leaving each edge of said base tape free of said transfer-printable film material to facilitate use of the centrally located transfer-printable film away from the edges of the base tape.
3. A transfer-printing-type error correction tape as set forth in claim 1, wherein said longitudinally spaced portions of said transfer-printable film are of substantially the same length thereby providing spaces between said portions of said transfer-printable film at regular intervals along the length of said base tape.
