Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE:

The car radio set is provided with a telecontrol allowing a remote control thereof, and with devices allowing, if desired, the insertion of tapes, there being not necessary, when operating the radio set, to actually touch it. On the contrary, it can be located in rather out-of reach places, so that it will be difficult to carry it away. More particularly, the car radio set may be fixed to the side members supporting the car seats, so as to make it impossible to remove the radio set unless the seat itself is removed.

Description

42~

The present invention provides a car radio set equipped with devices allowin~ the remote control of t~e same even when it is located in rather inaccessible places.
More particularly, although the car radio according to the invention may be mounted in a re~essed or even out of reach place, it can always be operated without difficulty.
Moreover, in the case the radio set is provided with a tape reading e~uipment, there are provided means allowing the insertion of tapes even though the car xadio set is located in places dificult to reach.
It is well known that car radios and tape reading equipments for cars have reached nowadays high technology levels~ and that they allow a sound repro-duction of ever increasing fidelity. The use of integratedcircuits allows the manufacture of digital tuning or frequency synthesis car radios, while at the same time, thanks to the miniaturization of the components, it is possible to fill the restricted available space with an ever greater number of accessories.
The most perfected car radio models are vexy expensive, which worsens in all respects the consequences of thefts, if any. It would therefore be advisable to locate the equipment in a hidden place, or at least where it cannot be easily removedO The problem to be solved, in this case, consists in the difficulty of easily reaching the controls of the radio set and inserting the tapes one wishes to listen to.
To satisfactorily cope with this problem, there is provided, in accordance with the present invention, a car radio set comprising:
a tuner;
a tape equipment;
means for remotely controlling the tuner without having to actually reach the radio set; and .~
f``

means ~or inserting tapes into the tape equipment also without having to actually reach the radio set;
whereby the car radio set can be easily opera~ed by a user even when this radio set is mounted in an area substantially difficult of reach by the user.
The tuner may be remotely controlled by means of an ultrasound control, and the car radio set according to the invention may be easily fastened to the side members Of a car seat in such a manner that lt is impossible to carry the radio set away unless the seat itself is removed.
The ob~ects, advantages and other features of the present invention will become more apparent from the following non-restrictive description of a preferred embodiment thereof, made with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
F~gure 1 is a perspective, schematic view of a car radio set according to the invention, mounted beneath a seat;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a control for the car radio set according to the invention;
Figure 3 is a block diagram of the components of the car radio set according to the invention.
With reference to Figure 1, the car radio set according to the invention comprises a tuner 1, of the electronic tuning type, or, preferably, of the frequency synthesis type. The controls of the tuner 1 are directly connected to an ultrasound receiver 2 of a known type. The receiver 2 can receive the ultrasound puLses given out by a transmitter identified by the reference 3 in Figure 2, and supplied by batteries or the like.
The tuner 1 is connected to a pair of loud-speakers 4 and 5, located inside the car so as to allow a good sound reproduction, and the housing of the tuner 1 is secured to a pair of supports 6, 7 usable to position the radio set wherever desired.
2~

The car radio set also ~omprises a tape reading equipment, schematically indica~ed by the reference 8, that can be removed ~rom the body 1 if it is slid along two side guides 9. The cassettes are inserted into the equipment 8 through an aperture 10.
There is further pro~ided a device consisting of a small revolving tape 11, extending from near the front edge of the seat to the aperture 10, and provided with a series o~ relie~s 12. This revolving tape 11 brings the cassettes containing the tapes beore the aperture 10.
The car radio set works as follows:
If one wishes to listen to the radio 7 he should operate a special knob of the ultrasound control 3 in order to tune in to the desired station, and the tuning of the radio set will automatically vary until it is tuned in to a station provided with a sufficiently high signal.
Each station/ moreover, can be inserted in memory and be directly uned in again by means of a series of pushbuttons set on control 3. As a consequence thereof, the electronic tuning or the frequency synthesis ~adios are the most appropriate for this kind of utilization.
In the case a user wishes, instead, to listen to a tape, the cassette containing the same should be placed on tape 11 which, as it rotates, carries the cassette before the aperture 10; a protruding element 12 will push the cassette into such an aperture 10.
At this stage, the whole equipment 8 is slid along the guides 9 and pushed inside body 1, at which the reproduction takes place automatically, the car radio being completely hidden underneath the seat.
The supports 6 and 7 make it possible to secure the radio anywhere in the car and particularly to the side members ~astening the seat, so that it is impossible to carry the radio away without removing the seat as well.

~i~;`'l ' v~

This can be a valid deterrent against thefts;
in addition, the radio set is not visible from outside, but can however be adjusted at will by means of the ultrasound control 3.
Many changes could then be provided for by any person skilled in the art, provided such changes do not depart from the ambit of the present invention.
