Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE

A frame carries a leveler blade assembly at the rear end thereof which is supported by a pair of wheels ex-tending rearwardly from the blade assembly. The wheels are pivoted to the blade assembly and a fluid operator extends between the blade assembly and the wheels to raise and low-er the blade assembly relative to the ground. A growser assembly is pivoted to the frame forwardly of the blade as-sembly and can be raised and lowered by a further fluid operator, relative to the frame so that the depth of pene-tration of the growser points can be selected. The frame is adapted to be hitched to a source of power such as a tractor which also supplies the necessary fluid pressure for the fluid operators.

Description

B GROUND OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to new and useful improve-ments in land leveler and growser assemblies.

; It is desirable to have a combination growser as-sembly and land leveler, the components of which can be in-; 20 dependently raised and lowered relative to the ground so that not only can the depth of penetration of the growser points be controlled, but the leveling and spreading of the loosened soil can also be controlled insofar as depth is concerned.

: SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention consists of a device which accomplishes these ends and one aspect of the invention con-- : . .: .

107499~

sists of a land leveler and growser assembly adapted to be pulled by a source of power including the source of fluid pressure; comprising in combination a main frame, a hitch on the front end of said main frame, a land leveling blade as-sembly secured to the rear end of the frame and spanningsame, ground engaging wheel assemblies pivotally mounted to the blade assembly and extending rearwardly therefrom, a fluid operator operatively extending between the blade assem-bly and the wheel assemblies for raising and lowering the blade assembly relative to the wheel assemblies, a growser assembly spanning the main frame forwardly of the blade as-sembly and means to raise and lower the growser assembly re-lative to the frame.

Another aspect of invention is to provide a de- ~:
vice of the character herewithin described which is simple in construction, economical in manufacture and otherwise well suited to the purpose for which it is designed. : .

With the foregoing in view, and other advantages ~ -as will become apparent to those skilled in the art to which this invention relat~s as this specification proceeds, my invention consists essentially in the arrangement and con-struction of parts all as hereinafter more particularly des-cribed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which:

DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device.

107~ 4 Figure 2 is a cross sectional view substantially along the line 2-2 of Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a rear view of the device with the wheels removed for clarity.

Figure 4 is a top plan view of the device.

In the drawings like characters of reference in-dicate corresponding parts in the different figures.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Proceeding therefore to describe the invention in detail, a main frame is provided generally designated 10 which, in this embodiment, includes a pair of longitudinally extending members 11 which converge together at the front end 12 thereof and are provided with a conventional hitch 13.

A land leveling blade assembly collectively de-signated 14 is secured to adjacent the rear end of the main members frame/ll and extends transversely and below the main frame members 11.

This land leveling assembly includes a pair of spaced apart side plates 15 depending from a front cross 10 ~ 4 member 16 and a rear cross member 17.

A curved rear wall 18 extends downwardly from the rear cross member 17 and engages the rear edges of the side plates 15, said rear wall being braced by a plurality of vertically situated stiffener members 19 illustrated in Figures 1 and 3. The lower edge 20 of the curved rear wall 18 is the operating edge of the land leveler blade.

A cross shaft 21 is journalled within bearings 22 across the rear of the curved rear wall 18 and wheel arms 22A
extend rearwardly from adjacent each end of this cross shaft.
Ground engaging wheels 23 are journalled for rotation upon stub axles 24 extending outwardly at right angles from the rear ends of the arms 22A thus mounting the rear of the assem-bly upon the ground.

A fluid operator in the form of a ram assembly 25 is operatlvely connected between a lug 26 formed on the rear of a short main frame member 27 and a lug 28 secllred to and extending from the cross shaft 21 so that the rear of the frame together with the land leveling assembly can be raised or lowered relative to the ground by extension and retraction of the ram assembly 25.

This permits the lower edge 20 of the blade or rear wall 18 to be adjusted relative to the ground surface.

The growser assembly collectively designated 29 10'74~
is situated within the main frame 10 forwardly of the land leveler blade assembly 14. A head frame 30 extends upwardly from the main frame and spans same. Said head frame inclu-des a pair of vertical members 31 braced by gussets 32 bet-ween the members and the main frame members 11, and a crossmember 33 extending between the upper ends of vertical mem-bers 31. An intermediate vertical member 34 may be provided extending between the cross member 33 and a cross frame mem-ber 34Aspanning the main frame members 11.

The growser assembly also includes a cross beam 35 having a plurality of growser points 36 secured thereto and extending downwardly therefrom in spaced and parallel relationship as clearly shown in the drawings.

Mounting arms 37 are secured by one end thereof to the cross beam 35 inboard of the outer ends thereof and these mounting arms extend forwardly and are attached by means of pivots 38 to brackets 39 secured to the frame mem-bers 11.

At least one and preferably a pair of fluid ope-rators or ram assemblies 40 are pivoted by one end thereofto the cross member 33 of the head frame with the piston rod 41 being pivotally attached to the cross beam 35 by means of pivot mountings42 which are conventional.

The fluid operator 25 and the fluid operator 40 .

107499~

are operatively connected to a source of fluid pressure , upon the source of power such as a tractor (not illustra-ted), so that the growser points can be raised or lowered relative to the frame so that the depth of penetration of the growser points within the ground surface can be con-trolled.

In operation, the device is pulled by a tractor with the growser points engaged with the ground to scarify same and the loosened soil is then leveled at the required depth by the blade assembly 14 immediately therebehind, the depth being controlled by the relationship of the wheel as-semblies relative to the frame.

:

- Since various modifications can be made in my invention as hereinabove described, and many apparently widely different embodiments of same made within the spirit and scope of the claims without departing from such spirit - and scope, it is intended that all matter contained in the accompanying specification shall be interpreted as lllustra-tive only and not in a limiting sense.
