Abstract
ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE:
The invention is concerned with a method for the continuous separation and recovery of marsh gas from bog mud, which comprises conducting the bog mud from a depth having a hydrostatic pressure of several atmospheres into a space having subatmospheric pressure to separate the gas from the mud, recovering the gas thus separated, conducting the mud from the separating space back to the bog while adding thereto a nutrient substance selected from the group consisting of phosphorous, potassium and nitrogen fertilizers and a trace element substance selected from the group consisting of iron, manganese, magnesium, calcium, nickel, cobalt, copper, zinc and molybdenum and adjust-ing the pH value of the mud in the range from 5 to 8. This cyclic process exploits the considerable difference between the hydrostatic pressure in the bog and the subatmospheric pressure in the separating space together with the capacity of the bog to produce marsh gas, which is further promoted by the addition of various substances to adjust the conditions favorable for digestion.

Claims (2)
1. A method for the continuous separation and recovery of marsh gas from bog mud, which comprises conducting the bog mud from a depth having a hydrostatic pressure of several atmospheres into a space having subatmospheric pressure to separate the gas from the mud, recovering the gas thus separated, conducting the mud from the separating space back to the bog while adding thereto a nutrient substance selected from the group consisting of phosphorous, potassium and nitrogen fertilizers and a trace element substance selected from the group consisting of iron, manganese, magnesium, calcium, nickel, cobalt, copper, zinc and molybdenum and adjusting the pH value of the mud in the range from 5 to 8.
2. A method according to claim 1, wherein Ca(OH)2 or CaO is added to the mud conducted from the separating space to the bog to adjust the pH value thereof.
