Abstract

ABSTRACT

The invention relates to a movable conveyor belt carrier which might be used in rock-crushing or other installations where the bulk material being conveyed may be deposited at different locations along a line of travel, as defined by the belt itself. The carrier is mounted so that it has a pair of caterpillar tracks on one side of the supporting framework and a single track on the opposite side, in line with the front track on the one side. The main supporting structure is carried by the pair of tracks and the torques acting on this structure are absorbed by a transverse structure which rests on the third track. The resulting unit is strong, stable and is easily steered.

Description

6~i The invention relates to a movable belt carrier supported, on one side of a belt line, upon two caterpillar tracks, groups of caterpillar tracks, or other means of travel and, on the other side of the belt line, upon a third caterpillar track, group of caterpillar trakcs, or other means of travel, and adapted to travel, upon the caterpillar tracks, along the belt line. The carrier has an ejector drum and at least one addi-tional deflector drum guiding the conveyor belt of a belt carrier equipped with a grinding belt which is adapted to be removed; it has a box-shaped main supporting structure higher than the belt line, preferably located on a level with the grinding belt extending in the longitudinal direction of the belt carrier and resistant to torsion and bending; it has a transverse supporting structure bridging the belt line 7 resistant to torsion and bending, and supporting the main supporting structure on the caterpillar tracks, or the like, on both sides of the belt line; and it has mountings for the drums, drives and roller stations, or garland-roller sets supporting the conveyor belt.
The ejector drum of a belt carrier inserted into a belt line transfers the bulk material, fed to it by the conveyor belt, to a subsequent, similarly mobile, intermediate conveyor, unloader, or the like~ or to a swivelling belt pertaining to a belt grinder.
Since belt carr;ers are not always required to work in the same belt line, but must also be moved to other belt lines, arrangements must be made for the belt carrier, ;n which the 28 conveyor belt is carried by the ~jector drum and at least one .

3L~15~65 additional deflector drum, to be released, i.e. removed, so that the said conveyor belt may be laid on the floor without being cut.
The frame carrying such belt carriers rests upon the two caterpillar tracks, or groups of caterpillar tracks, adapted to travel on each side of the belt line. In order to avoid inadmissible distortion, and therefore overloading, of the said frame when the unit is in motion, it is essential for this frame to be statically defined by means of a so-called three-point mounting. The simplest way of achieving this is to use only three caterpillar tracks or groups of caterpillar tracks, two of the tracks being arranged on one side of the belt line one behind the other, while the third track is located centrally be-tween the other two, as seen in the longi-tudinal direction of the unit or of the belt line.
In known designs of belt carriers running on three cater-pillar tracks the frame carrying the drums, drives and roller stations or sets of garland rollers supporting the conveyor belt consists of a box-shaped main supporting structure resis-tant to torsion and bending, locatea above the belt line, andextending along the axis of the belt line and the longitudinal axis of the unit, with a transverse supporting frame bridging the belt line, being also resistant to -torsion and bending, and supporting the main supporting structure on the caterpillar tracks or the like on each side of the belt line.
The disadvantage of this arrangement is that the belt carrier must be relatively high, with a correspondingly high center of gravity. Moreover, the arrangement is complex, since 29 the design must allow for the removal of the belt ~, ' ' .' . , .

,: i . ' ` ~al5~5 Furthermore~ the steering of the unit when it is in motion leaves something to be desired, if one caterpillar -track is arranged centrally between the opposite tracks, as seen in the longitudinal direction.
It is the purpose of the invention to simply the design, to save material, and to improve the steering of the unit.
According to the invention, this purpose is achieved in that the main supporting structure extending in the longitudi-nal direction of the unit is arranged on one side adjacent the belt, on the side carrying the two caterpillar tracks or the like, on one side of the belt line, and is supported thereon, the roller stations or sets of garland rollers of the belt being mounted on one side of the main supporting structure by means of brackets or the like; in that the torque acting upon the main supporting structure is absorbed by the transverse supporting structure which rests upon the third caterpillar track, or the like, on the other side of the belt line and is rigidly connected to the main supporting structure, at the front end thereof, by the front caterpillar track; and in -that the third caterpillar track is arranged directly opposite the ~ront caterpillar track located under -the main supporting structure, and is not staggered in relation thereto.
This provides a supporting structure of ver-y simple design.
The main supporting structure, running in the longitudinal direction of the unit, is arranged in the free space alongside the belt and may be independent of the belt guide.
It would also be possible to accommodate the electrical 28 circuitry within the box-shaped longitudinal supporting structure, ~ 3 ~

At the front end of the unit, the longitudinal structure is supported, by a transverse supporting structure, upon -the two front caterpillar tracks - one on each side of the belt line; the rear end of the main supporting structure rests directly upon the rear caterpillar track. The conveyor belt roller stations, or sets of garland rollers, are held in brackets each secured by one end to the box-shaped main supporting structure.
An example of embodiment, which in no way restricts the concept of the invention, is illustrated in the drawings attached hereto, wherein:

FIG. 3 is a section through the unit in the vicinity of the front caterpillar tracks; and FIG. 4 is a section through the unit in the vicinity of a rear caterpillar track.
The rear end of main supporting frame 1 rests upon rear caterpillar track 3, whereas the front end thereof rests, either directly or through transverse supporting struc-ture 2, upon front caterpillar tracks 4 and 5 arranged facing each other on each side of the belt line.
An ejector drum 6 transfers the bulk material reaching the belt carrier to a subsequent conveyor or swivelling belt 7. A

Claims

THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE
PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
1. A belt carrier supported, on one side of a belt line, upon two, i.e. one front and one rear, caterpillar tracks, groups of caterpillar tracks, or other means of travel and, on the other side, upon a third caterpillar track, group of caterpillar tracks, or other means of travel, and adapted to travel upon the said caterpillar tracks along the said belt line; having a box-shaped main supporting structure running in the longitudinal direction of the belt carrier, resistant to torsion and bending; having a transverse supporting structure bridging the belt line, resistant to torsion and bending, and supporting the main supporting structure on the caterpillar tracks, or the like, on both sides of the belt line; having an ejector drum and at least one additional deflector drum guiding the conveyor belt along the belt line and adapted to permit removal of the conveyor belt therefrom; and having mountings for the drums, drives and sets of rollers supporting the conveyor belt, characterized in that the main supporting structure, running in the longitudinal direction of the unit, is arranged on one side above the two caterpillar tracks adapted to travel along one side of the belt line, and is supported thereon, the supporting rollers used to support the conveyor belt being mounted on one side of the main supporting structure by means of brackets; in that the torque acting upon the main supporting structure is absorbed by the trans-verse supporting structure which rests upon the third caterpillar track, adapted to travel along the other side of the belt line, and is rigidly connected to the main supporting structure, at the front end thereof; and in that the third caterpillar track is arranged directly opposite the front caterpillar track and is not staggered in relation thereto.
