Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE

A textile bobbin having a yarn-stop flange formed by a flat base with an outwardly sloping peripheral rim.
The flange is provided with apertures each having a resilient tongue integral with the side adjacent the centre. The tongue is offset to facilitate passage of yarn between it and the inner side of the rim. A lug provided on the tongue secures the yarn by wedging it between the tongue and the flange.

Description

.
The invention relates to a.textile bobbin having a yarn-stop flange, i.e~ whereof at least one of the flanges is provided with one or more tongues intended to immobilize the free end of the yarn wound on the bobhin.
It is the particular object of the invention to facilitate the wedging of the aforesaid free end under at least .
one of the tongues, whatever the winding diameter of this yarn on the body of the bobbin.
The invention also relates to the production of bobbin flanges provided with tongues able to facilitate immobilization of yarn whereof the diameter may vary in considerable proportions, for example in a ratio of at least one to three~
Broadly, the present invention is directed to a yarn~stop flange for a textile bobbin having a drum, adapted to receive the flange at one end, the flange comprising: a flat base having a peripheral rim diverging away from the-drum in assembly~ at : least one aperture in the flange; a resilient tongue integrall~
.formed with and extending radially.outwardl~ of the flange and positioned in each aperture; and, wherein the tongue hein~
cooperable with the rim to hold the free end of yarn wound upon the bobbin.
: The accompanying drawings illustrate three embodiments of the bobbin according to the invention, by way of example:
Fig. 1 is an external ~iew of one of the flanges of the bobbin according to the first embodiment~

~ igs. 7 to 9 illustrate the third embodimentO

.
~ igs. 1 and 2 illustrate a flange 1 of a bobbin having a shape diverging outwardly in cross-section, i.e. comprising a circular base 1a extended by a peripheral rim 1b of frustoconical ~hape. ~he central part of the base 1a is provided with a circular aperture 2 bordered by a tubular wall 3 which projects on either side of this base. The height of the wall 3 outside the flange 1 is less than that of the rim 1b. The part o~ the wall 3 which projects from the inner side of the flange is used to receive a drum 4 co-operating with a second flange, to constitute a bobbin.

Radial ribs 5 connect the part of the wall 3 which projects outside the flange 1 to the base 1a of the latter and to a part of its peripheral rim 1b. As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the outer edge 5a of each rib is directed parallel to the base ~a of the flange, this base comprising a certain number of lightening holes 6.

Apertures 7 of general rectangular shape1 directed radially with respect to said flange are provided partly in the rim 1b, partly in the base 1a of the flange 1~ ~he edge 7a of each of the . . -~4~
aperture~ 7 which is located closest to the centre~ is associated ~ith a tongue 8 arranged parallel to the base 1a, but of~set towards the outside of the flange 1, such that in the free ~tat~, its ;nner side 1a is located at a certain distance from the corresponding side of said base. ~hi~ distance is chosen such that there is no danger of inopportune attachment of the yarn behind the tongue 8 during the winding operation~ The tongue ~s connected to the aforesaid base by a rounded section 8bo It will be noted tha~ the tongues, which extend inside the ~D apertures 7, have dimensions sli~htl~ less than those o~ these apertures, for the purpose of facilitating moulding of the flanges, advantageously undertaken in semi-rigid plastics material.
In other words~ the clearance which may be seen in Fig. 1 between the projected periphery of each tongue 8 and the periphery of the corresponding aperture 7, facilitates removal of the cores from the mould. It will be noted that the outer side of each tongue 8 is provided with a wedge 9 whose function will be described hereafter.

The operation is as follows ~

When the winding diameter of the yarn on the bobbin drum has a certain ~alue, or even when the desired length of yarn stored is reached, this yarn is moved towards the outside by any appropriate means fitted on the winding machine, in the region of one or other of the flanges of the bobbin, such that it engages under a~ least one of the tongues 8 (~ig. 4). The elasticity of the latter ensures the wedging of the yarn between the inner side o~ the rim 1b and the corresponding side of the tongue or tongues i~ question, the wedge 9 ~acilitating the aforesaid wedging of the yarn.

,"

. . B;y appropriately choosi~; the dimensions of the region 10 (Fi~. 3) between the outside of the tongue~ the wedge 9 and the inner side o~ th~ edge 1b~ the minimum diameter of yarn which may be arrested by said tongue 8, is determinedl ~his dlameter naturally being slightl~ greater tha~ the width of the region 10 i~ order that this tongue may exert a certain pressure thereon.

The maximum diameter of yarn able to be stored on the bob~iQ
and whereof the free end may be appropriatel~ arrested, is determined by the possibility of elastic deformation of each tongue 8 (Fig. 4). In practice, the ratio between the minimum-and maximum diameter~ is at least one to three.

- ~igR. 5 and 6 illustrate a variation according to which the upper part of each of the tongues 81 of the flan~e 1 is curved so a~ to be located in the general plane of the rim 1b. The outer side of each tongue 8' is provided with a foot 11, whereof the free end projects by a distance d1 beyond the plane determined by the edges 5a of the ribs 5.

When the bobbin produced by means of flanges according to t~e above variation~ is mounted on a winding machine, one ensures that the support spindle for this bobbin is provided with two sleeves 12 preferably made of rubber and which bear against the edges 5a of the ribs 5 of each flange. The sleeves 12 conseque~tly act on the feet 11 to facilit-ate -the opening of the tongues 8' which thus come into the position shown in ~ig. 6.

As described with reference to ~igs. 3 and 4, whe~ it is desired to arrest the yarn, the latter is moved outwards, so that it becomes wedged between the outer side of the tongue 8' and the rim 1bo When the bobbin is r~moved~ the elasticit~ of this tongue tends to cause it to resume its initial position since the foot 11 is released, such that the wedging of the yarn is increased further.

The variation illustrated in Figs. 7 to 9 consists of gi~ing the periphery of the rim 1b a downwardly directed edge 1c arranged substantiall~ perpendicular to said rim 1b and directed inwards. ~urthermore, the ribs 5' have a height equal to that of the flange 1. In addition, notches 7' are produced in an ~D identical manner to those 7, but they open outwards~

Each of the tongues 8" is made in an identical manner to the tongues 8, but in place of an outer wedge 9 9 the~ are provided, like the tongues 8', with a foot 13 which proaects by a distance d2 beyond the plane determined by the terminal edges of the ribs 5'.
When the bobbin is in position on the winding machine, the ~leeves 12 push the feet 13, such that the tongues assume the position illustrated in ~ig. 8.

When the yar.n is moved towards the outside at the end of winding, it becomes wedged between the outer side of the tongues 8 "
and the inner side of the rim 1b. When the bobbin is removed, the foot 13 is released, such that, due to its elasticity, the tongue 8" in question pivots in the direction of arrow F to bring the yarn into the angle formed by the rim 1b and its downardly directed edge 1c where it is imprisoned.

A bobbin for the storage.of yarn is thus produced which is of .l~ght: and economic construction and which facilitates perfect immobilization of the end of the wound yarn.

' ~4~
~ aturally9 and although the bobbi~ has been made from plastic~ material~ it could be made îrom any other material able to gi~re the tongues sufficien~ elastioity.
