Abstract

Ophthalmic clamp and associated surgical method. The present invention relates to a method and a clamp for treating presbyopia and / or open-angle glaucoma in which the sclera is sustained or reinforced while substantially maintaining the spatial relationship between the ciliary muscle and the lens. The method includes making a conjunctiva incision to gain access to the overlapping sclera to the ciliary muscle. Tenon capsules are moved laterally to expose the sclera, and opposite shallow pockets are made in the sclera. A staple, or a series of staples, is provided that has two opposite feet which are received in opposite pockets in the sclera. Tenon capsules are then slid over the clamp and the conjunctiva is closed.
