Description

This is a water board structural configuration with the objective of obtaining high impact resistance for use in wakeboarding - board to be powered by speedboat, for use in kiteboarding - board to be powered by paragliding sailboat for use in skiing - to be pulled by speedboat. It uses strips of flexible fabric, longitudinally arranged to act as reinforcing beams.

The planks, initially made of wood, have evolved into low specific weight synthetic materials such as polyurethane, fiberglass or carbon. Surfboards used for surfing were not subjected to high impact mechanical stress. With the advent of more extreme sports such as wakeboarding and kateboarding, it became necessary to have boards with mechanical structure compatible with the efforts to which they are subjected. The innovations that had to be made compatible with the increase of the mechanical resistance maintaining and / or reducing the own weight of the board. Some European manufacturers have now used higher strength and / or thicker board polyurethane material. Another solution adopted was the longitudinal fitting in the polyurethane core of a central wooden beam or carbon fiber beam. Also known is the resin-covered balsa-type log board. There are honey comb core wakeboards; consists of thin-walled resin-coated aluminum honeycomb Commercially available boards have no problems with fluctuation; The aim is to reduce the weight / resistance ratio, that is, the board has to be as light as possible and the more impact resistant the better. The improvement of the waterboard, described in this report, has a constructive arrangement that increases the mechanical strength as desired without increasing the own weight of the board. Fits into longitudinal slits made in the polyurethane core, strips of flexible fabric that, when coated with resin, behave as bending-resistant beams. The strips are distributed over the entire surface of the board providing uniform resistance distributed throughout the body of the board. The more parallel strips are placed, the more mechanically resistant the board is. Because they are flexible strips, the board's flexibility is preserved. Fabric thickness can also be dosed for better control of board flexibility. Thus in rough seas, where a more flexible board is required, the core is made of thin strips of fabric and a larger number of strips. It is a constructive arrangement that results in functional improvement in use and easy fabrication. Figure 1 is a top view of the waterboard core with the polyurethane body (1) and the longitudinal slots (2) disposed parallel to each other. Figure 2 shows a cross section of the board core with a view of the body (1) and the slots (2) running through the body (1) from the top face to the bottom face of the board. Figure 3 shows the reinforcing strips (3) fitted into the slots (2). Figure 4 shows the body (1) of the polyurethane core with the slots (2) into which the strips (3) and the resin cover (4) are embedded giving the board a finish. Figure 5 shows variation in the shape of slits that take the form of shallow grooves (5) without passing through the core body. The polyurethane core is traditionally made with the aid of a mold into which expanded polyurethane is injected. Then the body (1) is cut longitudinally to form the slots (2). The number of slots and the thickness of the slot will depend on the desirable characteristics of the board. The number of slots ranges from 2 to 10 and the thickness of the slot is in the range of 1 to 2 mm. The strips (3) are fitted along the slots (2). The strips are of flexible fabric whose material may be fiberglass or carbon fiber, or polyester or kevlar. The strips may have protruding edges or not.
