"TRANSMISSOR E MéTODO PARA TRANSMITIR UM PRIMEIRO E SEGUNDO FLUXOS DE BITS, SINAL DE DADOS REALIZADO EM UMA ONDA PORTADORA, RECEPTOR E MéTODO PARA RECEBER UM FLUXO DE DADOS, SISTEMA DE COMUNICAçãO DIGITAL, E, MéTODO DE COMUNICAçãO DIGITAL" é descrito um sistema de comunicação digital com codificação de bloco e modulação diferencial e/ou de amplitude combinadas. Para todo período de palavra de código, um ou mais bits adicionais podem ser transmitidos, aplicando modulação diferencial e/ou de amplitude às palavras de código. Na modulação diferencial, informação adicional pode ser enviada mudando ou não o sinal de uma palavra de código. Na modulação em amplitude, informação adicional pode ser enviada mudando a amplitude de palavras de código sucessivas. Uma combinação de condificação diferencial e de amplitude pode então ser usada. Então, a taxa de dados pode ser aumentada sem aumentar a taxa de transmissão de símbolo.
