Abstract

A liquid transfer laminate is provided which is permanently conformable to a user's body contours when used in a personal care absorbent article or a medical absorbent article. The laminate includes a liquid transfer film and a fibrous nonwoven web. Both the film and the weft are extensible in a transverse direction to a width at least 25% greater than an original unstretched width under the application of a drawing force. The weft and film, and the complete laminate, exhibit little or no retraction force once they have been stretched. A diaper or other absorbent garment can be made smaller than normal using laminate, thus saving material. When the garment is worn, the laminate is stretched only where it is needed to provide a substantially perfect fit on the wearer. The minimum retraction force prevents skin marks, breakage, etc. that may result from elastic clothing.
