Cabo óptico (1) para telecomunicações, tendo baixos valores de PMD e atenuação, dito cabo incluindo um elemento central (4), uma pluralidade de fibras ópticas (3) e uma camada de material de polímero (5) destituída de descontinuidades e incorporando ambos o elemento central (4) e as fibras ópticas, cada uma das fibras ópticas (3) sendo arranjada ao longo de uma trajetória de hélice aberta ao longo da qual tem uma torção com um valor médio de zero e um valor máximo local entre 0,05 voltas/m e 1,5 voltas/m.
