The ballast secures the operation of the low pressure gasdischarge by means of a capacitative limitter and rectifierwithout ripple filter connected in series to an electronic switchto which a resonance circuit made of a capacitor, inductivity andthe low pressure gas discharge lamp, is subconnected in series. Asecond electronic switch is connected parallel to the resonancecontour so that it will effect the discharge of the energyaccumulated in the circuit across the low pressure gas dischargelamp when it does not receive energy from the mains supply. Thedevice is simplified and has a minimum number of components andhigh efficiency factor. It causes minimum distortions of the basiccurrent wave across the lamp and its power factor cos can becorrected from induction to purely active or capacitativedepending on the needs of the supplying mains.
