- une bague de guidage assujettie à l'enveloppe du thermomètre et à la partie de préhension peut comporter un filetage qui est en prise avec le taraudage d'un anneau solidaire de la ventouse, de telle sorte que le fond dudit thermomètre puisse être pressé contre la face supérieure du couvercle par suite d'une rotation de ladite partie de préhension ;
(figure 2).
REVENDICATIONS

Detachable thermometer handle for frying pan cover.
The present invention relates to a removable handle which, fitted to a cover with frying pans, comprises a suction cup as a fixing element, as well as a thermometer incorporated in the handle to indicate
the cooking temperature.
There are already known stove covers fitted with handles having a thermometer incorporated into a bimetallic strip.
which indicates the cooking temperature. These known handles are however screwed to the cover and they cannot be removed by the housewife. The thermometer is thus periodically subjected to the constraints imposed by cleaning it in the dishwasher.
There are also already known handles for stove covers which can be easily attached to the cover at any time and can be removed again. These handles have a suction cup. However, it has not been possible so far to also equip a thermometer with suction cup handles. This is due to the fact that after its application, the middle part of the suction cup lifts away from the surface on which it
was pressed. When this central zone of the suction cup is formed by the bottom of a thermometer by surface contact, this central zone is not in contact with the upper face of the lid of the pan when the suction cup adheres, which greatly affects the transfer of heat.
The object of the present invention is therefore to produce a handle, the fixing element of which consists of a suction cup, so that a thermometer by incorporated surface contact is suitably applied to the upper face of a cover when the suction cup
is held firmly in place by suction. In addition, this pressure exerted on the thermometer increases the vacuum prevailing in the vacuum chamber of the suction cup,
so as to improve the grip of the latter.
According to the essential characteristics of
the handle of the invention, a guide ring fixed to the envelope of the thermometer is axially movable relative to
the suction cup, so that the bottom of said thermometer can be pressed against the upper face of the cover.
According to other advantageous embodiments, in accordance with the invention:
- A guide ring secured to the envelope of the thermometer and to the gripping part may include a thread which is engaged with the thread of a ring secured to the suction cup, so that the bottom of said thermometer can be pressed against the upper face of the cover following a rotation of said gripping part;
- the part of the suction cup made of rubber can be secured to the gripping part, the guide ring connected to the thermometer casing can be moved axially in said gripping part and, in addition, a coil spring loaded beforehand and inserted between said gripping part and said guide ring can be used to press said guide ring and the thermometer against a lower stop; and
- In addition to its outward-facing sealing lip, the suction cup may have a second inward-facing sealing lip.
The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings by way of non-limiting examples and in which:
Figures 1 and 2 are axial sections showing a first embodiment of half of a removable handle in two positions thereof; and
Figures 3 and 4 are axial sections similar to Figures 1 and 2, illustrating a second form
of a removable handle.
The removable handle according to FIGS. 1 and 2 comprises a grip part 1 made of plastic,
which surrounds the upper part of a thermometer 2 by surface contact of a type known per se and which is subject
(for example glued) to the envelope of this thermometer. A guide ring 3 is secured to the lower part of the envelope of said thermometer 2. This ring has a thread 3a which is engaged with the thread of a ring 4 secured to the rubber part of a suction cup 5. Thus , a rotation of the grip part 1 allows axial movement of the thermometer 2 relative to the suction cup 5.
A collar 3b of the guide ring 3 prevents the latter from being fully unscrewed from the ring 4. An O-ring 6, acting as a seal, hermetically insulates the ring 3 and the ring 4 from one the other.
The removable handle is illustrated placed on a cover 7 of a frying pan (shown only in partial section). Figure 1 shows the position of the handle in which the thermometer occupies, relative to
the suction cup 5, its highest position in which the collar 3b is applied to the ring 4. In this position, the handle was pressed on the upper face of the cover 7, then released. A vacuum then prevails in a space or chamber B located under the suction cup 5 and under the bottom of the thermometer 2, so that the handle adheres to the upper face of the cover. However, since the bottom of the thermometer is not in contact with the upper face of the cover, no impeccable heat conduction is ensured from said cover 7 to said thermometer 2.
Thanks to a rotation of the gripping part 1, the thermometer can be brought into contact with the cover 7
(figure 2). In this case, the ring 4 is slightly raised, which has the effect of further increasing the vacuum prevailing in the chamber 8. Under these conditions, the adhesion of the suction cup 5 is improved and the heat transfer between
the cover 7 and the thermometer 2 is flawless.
In the embodiment according to the figures
3 and 4, the suction cup 5 is subject to the gripping part 1. In addition to a conventional sealing lip 5a projecting outwards, said suction cup 5 has a second sealing lip 5b projecting inwards . Thus, when pressure is exerted on the handle, a vacuum is generated only in the annular chamber 8.
The thermometer 2 is subject to a guide ring 3 which is axially movable in the grip part 1. In
its lower part, the guide ring 3 has a collar
3b projecting outwards. In a cavity 10 interposed between the gripping part 1 and the ring 3, there is a helical spring 9 loaded beforehand, which has the function of pushing said ring 3 down towards a lower annular stop 11 (Figure 3 ).
Figure 3 shows the handle when it is placed on the cover 7 before the pressure is exerted, while Figure 4 shows said handle blocked by suction after it has been pressed center the cover. A vacuum then prevails in the annular chamber 8. The bottom of the thermometer 2 is pressed by the spring 9 against the upper face of the cover 7, which guarantees excellent heat transmission. The pressure exerted by the spring on the gripping part 1 also has the effect of pushing the suction cup 5 upwards, which appreciably increases the vacuum prevailing in the annular chamber 8.
The use of a suction cup 5 provided with an internal sealing lip 5b dispenses with the need to insert additional sealing means between the ring
guide 3 and the gripping part 1.
It goes without saying that numerous modifications can be made to the removable handle described and shown, without going beyond the ambit of the invention.
