"Combined drilling and grinding machine and its machining process" The present invention relates to a mixed machine and a method for carrying out both drilling and grinding using the same machining head.
The bore of an engine is finished by grinding using grinding wheels after drilling with knives. Drilling and grinding to form the inner peripheral surface of an active opening such as the bore have hitherto been carried out separately using separate machining heads mounted on
separate trees. Consequently, it is difficult to reduce working hours and improve their efficiency, and many devices and mechanisms must be provided.
The grinding is carried out by rotation and axial reciprocal displacement of a machining head equipped with grinding wheels. However, according to the conventional grinding operation, the machining head, which is moved alternately by an alternative mechanism, is kept in a floating state by means of a universal joint and, by this floating effect, the grinding wheels freely follow the internal peripheral surface of an active opening carry out the rectification. Consequently, an accessible machining speed is inevitably limited and it has therefore not been possible to carry out grinding at high speed, with high efficiency.
The Applicant has developed the present invention with a view to
effectively resolve the above problems associated with the prior art.
The object of the present invention is to provide a combined drilling and grinding apparatus, as well as a combined machining process. In this apparatus, a single machining head is used in common for both drilling and grinding operations, so that the working time is reduced, improves its efficiency and eliminates mechanisms and devices; the structure of the apparatus for the grinding operation is made rigid enough to allow the grinding to be carried out rigidly, so that a high speed is achieved and a high efficiency machining is accomplished.
In order to achieve the above object, the present invention is characterized in that the drilling tools and the grinding wheels are arranged coaxially in a machining head; in that a bar is inserted in the alternately displaceable state, by means of a key coupling, in a hollow spindle rotated by a control member; in that a final opening surface of the spindle and one end of the bar engage with each other by a conical socket, so that the bar can be released
and moved forward relative to the spindle; and in that the aforementioned machining head is coupled to the final surface of the exposed bar from the final opening surface of the spindle.
In the attached drawings:
Figure 1 is a side view of the whole of a combined machining apparatus according to the invention and the main parts of which are in cross section; and Figure 2 is a partially enlarged view of Figure 1 showing in detail part of the machining head.
The basic construction of a mixed machine according to the invention is reproduced in FIG. 1. A sliding base 2 is fixed on a frame 1 and a spindle casing 3 is arranged
in the sliding state on the sliding base 2 and is moved forwards and backwards by a drive cylinder
4. Inside the spindle casing 3, a cylindrical hollow spindle 5 is provided, mounted in a rotary state in bearings
6 and a pulley 8 has been placed using a key 7 on the rear part of the spindle 5 which projects beyond the casing
3. A belt 8a connected to a control member such as a motor, is driven around the pulley 8 and the spindle 5 is rotated by the control member. A bar 9 serving as a rectifying bar is inserted inside the spindle 5, while the internal peripheral surface of this spindle 5 and the external peripheral surface of the bar 9 are coupled together by a key 10; thanks to this key coupling 10, the bar 9 is produced so as to slide forward and backward relative to spindle 5 and to rotate jointly with the latter.
The final opening surface of pin 5 is formed

Mity of the bar 9 is also formed so as to present a part 9a diverging towards the front, adapting closely to the conical surface 5 a. The conical surface 5a and the part 9a diverging towards the front engage with one another by a conical interlocking when the bar 9 is at the limit of its stroke or its rearward movement; the conical connection is interrupted to allow the bar 9 to disengage and move forward with respect to the spindle 5 when the bar 9 must move forward. A machining head 11 is coupled to the final surface of the bar 9 which is apparent from

the inner peripheral surface of an active opening and a rear knife 15b serves to chamfer.
Both the bar 9 and the machining head 11 are hollow, so that a rod 20 is inserted by sliding inside,

conical part 20a of the end of the rod 20 inserted inside the machining head 11. The directions of inclination of two cam surfaces 21 and 22 are opposite to each other with respect to the direction of sliding of the rod 20. In this exemplary embodiment, as the rod 20 moves forward, a cam surface 21 abuts a cam projection 12a of the shoe 12 of the insert to be ground, the projection which is oriented towards the interior of the machining head 11, so that the insert 13 is pushed radially outward from the head 11, while a rearward movement of the rod
20 allows the cam surface 22 to deflect the cartridge 14
via a push pin 23, so that the drill knife 15 is pushed radially outwards
from head 11.

the rotation of the wafer 13 during grinding is supported by the gripping action between the cam projection! and the concavity 20b, so that it is guaranteed that the wafer 13 is prevented from jumping, even at a high speed of rotation of the machining head 11.
As shown in Figure 1, a cylinder 25 is arranged
<EMI ID = 6.1>
cylinder 25 is coupled to the rear part 9b of the bar 9 extending from the rear end 9b of the spindle 5, so as to allow the bar 9 to rotate.
25 fits one end of a piston 26, the major part of which extends rearward beyond the cylinder 25. On the rear end of the piston 26, a pulso-motor 27 has been fixed to adjust the position of the rod 20 and correct the output quantity by pushing the drill knife 15; a threaded rod 28 connected to a drive shaft 27a of the motor 27 is housed inside the piston 26 which is hollow. The rod 28 is engaged by screwing with a reciprocating member 29 provided with an internally threaded hole at its rear end. A final part of the reciprocating member 29 extends forward through the front end of the piston 26 and a partition wall 25b of the cylinder 25; this final part 29a extending towards the front of the reciprocating member

from the rear end of the bar 9 in order to allow the rotation of the rod 20, so that the piston 26 and the rear part 20c of the rod 20 are coupled together via the pulso-motor 27 which constitutes the correction control unit.
The piston 26 is supported by the lower part 31a of a

<EMI ID = 9.1>
designed to slide on the support member 31; the sliding plate 34 is moved forwards and backwards by the operation of the cylinder 32. The sliding plate 34 constitutes a part of a casing 36 which contains an alternative mechanism 35; a final part of a swing arm 37, which is a constituent element of the reciprocating mechanism 35, is connected to the cylinder 25, so that the rear part 9b of the bar 9 and the reciprocating mechanism 35 are connected together by the <EMI ID = 10.1>
In the external peripheral surface of the machining head
11, an air nozzle 40 is provided, connected to a source of compressed air by means of the head 11, from the inside of the bar 9, of an air passageway 41 formed longitudinally in the axis of the rod 20 and an air emission orifice 42 located in the rear part of the rod 20 and this, in order to eject air from the nozzle 40. The air nozzle 40 is used to detect the dimension of an active opening during machining and this dimension detection is performed on the basis of the amount of air circulating in the air circuit or the back pressure . The air outlet is transformed into an electrical outlet which is encrypted and further transformed into a pulsed signal which is brought to the pulso-motor 27.
The machining process is now described in detail below.
The piston 26 moves back by a supply of hydraulic oil to the cylinder 25. The pulso-motor 27, the threaded rod 28 and the reciprocating member 29 also reverse completely to accompany the piston 26. As the member to move-

The motor 27 performs several rotations corresponding to the input pulses and these are transmitted to the threaded rod 28. Then, by the action of the drive screw, the reciprocating member

During the aforementioned drilling operation, the divergent front part 9a of the bar 9 is in close contact with the conical surface 5a of the final opening surface of the spindle 5,

the machining head is accentuated by spindle 5 and the drilling precision is greatly improved.
As soon as the rotation of the spindle 5 ceases and the drilling operation by means of the knives 15 is completed, the piston 26 is advanced to a position lying almost in the middle

The reentry stroke of the spindle housing 3 coincides with the stroke used to release the bar from spindle 5 and advance it for /
the following rectification operation.
To carry out the grinding operation, the piston 33 of the grinding cylinder 32 is forced to adopt an expansive behavior, thus allowing the sliding plate 34
to slide forward on the support member 31. Consequently, the casing 36 forming an integral part of the sliding plate 34 and the reciprocating mechanism 35 housed in the casing 36 also advance together, so that the cylinder 25 connected

The piston 26, which has advanced to a position lying in the middle of the cylinder 25, is further advanced and the forward movement resulting from the rod 20 allows the insert to be ground 13
to go out radially outwards and to come into contact by pressure with the hole W. This pressure contact is established by the rotation of the spindle 5 and by the actuation of the reciprocating mechanism 35. In addition to the oscillating arm 37, this reciprocating mechanism 35 comprises a bent shaft 38 which turns on an axis N, and a rod 39 which connects the bent shaft 38 to the swing arm 37. The crank movement is transformed into a longitudinal swing movement on a pivot 37a of the swing arm
37. Due to the oscillating movement of the oscillating arm 37, the cylinder 25, the piston 26, the bar 9, the machining head 11 and furthermore the rod 20 are all driven by a repeated movement of forward and backward movement. . As spindle 5 turns, this repeated movement
