<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>
16-12 et 7 est mis en rotation autour de l'axe 4 ;
17 de la jante 2. De cette manière la périphérie extérieure du rouleau 12 ainsi que le bourrelet du pneu 1 se sont rapprochés de l'intérieur de la jante 2 ce qui a pour conséquence d'améliorer le positionnement définitif du bourrelet et d'empêcher ce dernier de ressortir de la jante 2 en glissant sur le bord extérieur 17 ;

The present invention relates to installations for mounting tires on rims
and more particularly the automatic assembly of tires in large series.
In Belgian patent No 676 244 filed
on February 9, 1966, in the name of the applicant, a machine has already been described for mounting tires using an arm mounted on the shaft of a control motor, this arm carries at its end a caster when
the rotation of the shaft acts on the bead of the tire to force it to be placed on the rim.
For assembly installations in large series, the same principle was retained, however replacing the caster with a cone-shaped pressure wheel with rounded top.
The axis of this wheel is located in the extension of the rotary arm so that
the base of the cone runs along the upper edge of the
rim by pushing the tire bead on the rim.
In such installations, it often happens that the tire bead is not properly placed or that it comes out of the rim again after the pressure roller has passed.
The object of the present invention is to remedy this drawback.
With a view to achieving this aim, the installation which is the subject of the invention essentially comprises a cylinder centered in the vertical axis above a rim, this cylinder being able to be moved towards the rim and rotated around its axis, is provided at its end with an arm characterized in that this arm carries at its end a pressure roller having substantially the shape of a cone with rounded top whose base has
a concave recess and in that this roller
can move axially against a pressure spring.
Said pressure roller is advantageously accompanied by guide means on the rim as well as means forcing the beads of the tire to pass below the pressure wheel in order to be forced onto the rim.
The invention will be described more clearly below with the aid of an exemplary embodiment and with reference to the drawings in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of an installation according to the invention. Figure 2 is a plan view of this installation. Figure 3 is a detailed sectional view of the pressure wheel.
In Figure 1 a tire is shown
<EMI ID = 1.1>
Above the assembly is a mounting installation according to the invention composed of a cylinder 3 which slides vertically and can be rotated about its axis 4.
The cylinder 3 carries at its lower end a plate 5 on which is welded an arm 6 slightly inclined downwards.
In the extension of the arm 6 is mounted
<EMI ID = 2.1>
dicular to the arm 6, and intended to guide the end of the arm 6 relative to the upper edge 9 of the rim 2.
At its end, the arm 6 also carries a block 10 in which the shaft 11 can rotate
<EMI ID = 3.1>
the water 12 is substantially inclined along the arm 6 and extends radially relative to the vertical axis of rotation 4.
The roller 12 and the shaft 11 can move axially relative to the block 10, against a spring 14 as illustrated in more detail in FIG. 3 (position pressed in dotted lines).
An important feature of the invention is that the base or rear face of the roller
12, which has the shape of a cone with a rounded apex, has a concave recess 15 whose purpose will be explained later in the description.
Finally, the arm 6 is also provided with a hook 16 which ensures that the sidewall of the tire 1 is correctly positioned before being pushed onto the rim 2 by the roller 12.
The operation of the installation is as follows:
- The rim 2 and the tire 1, arranged obliquely on the rim 2. are brought by a conveyor belt (not shown) below the mounting installation according to the invention.
In order to simplify the description and to make the drawings clearer, the means for centering and holding the rim, known per se, have not been taken into account.
- After positioning the rim 2, the cylinder 3 and the plate 5 and the arm 6 are moved down until the roller 7 abuts against the upper edge 9 of the rim; <EMI ID = 4.1>
16-12 and 7 is rotated about the axis 4;
the hook 15 brings the sidewall of the tire 1 into a correct position towards the pressure roller 12 which, by the thrust of the tire 1, is moved in the direction of the arrow F against the spring 14.
By this movement the concave part 15 of the roller 12 is brought against the outer edge
17 of the rim 2. In this way the outer periphery of the roller 12 as well as the bead of the tire 1 have come closer to the interior of the rim 2 which has the consequence of improving the final positioning of the bead and of preventing the latter emerging from the rim 2 by sliding on the outer edge 17;
- when the arm 6 has completed one complete revolution the tire is mounted and the cylinder 3 returns upwards.
At the start of this movement, the outer edge 17 of the rim will push the roller 12 outwards in order to disengage it from the rim. Once released, the spring 14 brings the roller 12 back to the position illustrated in solid lines in FIG. 3.
Of course various modifications can be made by those skilled in the art to the installation which has just been described solely by way of non-limiting example without departing from the scope of the invention.
