<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>
The present invention relates to a device for inflating day automatic installations.
<EMI ID = 1.1>
especially for tubeless tires
(tubeless).
In installations of this kind, devices have already been used called "inflation bell" composed of a plate provided with a cylindrical rim.
The tire that was previously mounted on
the rim is set up and centered with respect to the "bell" and is moved towards the bell or vice versa
so as to bring the bottom edge of
the bell with the sidewall of the tire.
At the time of pressurization, the relative position of the bell with respect to the rim
is such that the lower ring of the tire is placed in the corresponding groove of the rim and the upper ring of the tire is kept away from
its corresponding location of the rim by the lower edge of the bell.
In this way, the pressurized air which
is brought into the bell is placed in direct communication with the interior of the tire through the opening
between the rim and the tire. When the desired pressure
is reached the bell is removed from the tire and the upper ring of the latter is placed in the corresponding groove provided in the rim.
This withdrawal causes an abrupt relaxation of
air and a tire placement under unfavorable conditions. It was found that the noise caused
by this operation is excessive for the work premises. In addition to pressure loss due to removal
of the bell is such that the pressurization must be greater than one third of the normal pressure which can be harmful for the tires and requires heavy and powerful equipment.
The object of the present invention is to eliminate these drawbacks so as to be able to use much lighter apparatus and to considerably reduce the consumption of compressed air as well as the operating noise.
In addition, the invention makes it possible to obtain higher final pressures in the mounted tire, thanks to the considerable reduction in the pressure drop when the bell is removed.
In order to achieve these goals, the inflation installation, object of the invention, comprises an inflation bell whose lower edge, which comes into contact and seals with the tire, has at least one projection which extends over a section of the periphery of the edge and which gradually joins, on either side of the projection, the lower level of the edge of the bell.
Another feature of the invention is that the inflation bell cooperates with a movable plate disposed inside the bell and which can move axially relative to the bell under the action of a pressure spring. This tray is provided with seals respectively between
the plate and the bell and between this plate and the rim.
The invention is described in more detail below with the aid of drawings representing only one embodiment.
FIG. 1 represents a view in vertical section of a bell according to the invention, in the state of rest. Figure 2 shows the separate edge of the bell in a developed position.
Figures 3 and 4 show the relative positions of the bell, the plate and the rim respectively at the start and at the end of inflation.
The figures represent an inflation bell comprising an extended cylindrical body 1
at its periphery downwards by a cylindrical wall
2.
According to the invention the lower edge
3 of the wall 2 has a projection 4 which extends
on a section of the periphery of the edge 3 and which gradually joins, on either side of there projection 4, the lower edge 3 of the bell.
In practice, good results have been obtained with a projection 4 which extends over a section corresponding to an angle of 60 [deg.], That is to say 1/6 of the circumference.
<EMI ID = 2.1>
advantageously located in the center of the projection 4 so as to be able to bring the pressurized air as close as possible towards the interior of the tire.
Inside the bell is mounted a plate 6 which can move axially relative to
at the bell. The movement of the plate 6 is guided by a piston 7 sliding inside a cylinder 8 integral with the body 1. The stroke of the plate 6 is limited downwards by a flange 9 of the piston 7 which is supported on a cylinder stop 10
8. The plate 6 is held down under the action of a pressure spring 11 situated between the closed end 12 of the cylinder 8 and a central housing 13 of the piston 7.
The plate 6 is provided respectively towards
the top and bottom of annular seals 14 and 15. The seal 14 seals between the plate 6 (in the high position) and the body 1 of the bell and the seal 15 seals between the plate 6 and an annular planar surface 16 of the rim 17 (see FIG. 3).
During operation, the wheel arrives with the tire 18 mounted on the rim 17 below the inflation bell. The wheel is centered and moved towards the bell. The annular surface 16 of the rim
17 comes into contact with the seal 16 of the plate 6 and pushes it upwards, against the spring
11, up to the inner surface of the body 1
from the bell. At this time, the seal is established between the rim 17 and the plate 6 by the seal 15
and between the plate 6 and the body of the bell by
the gasket 14.
Compressed air can therefore enter through port 5 and penetrate between the upper ring 19
<EMI ID = 3.1>
as a pressure is established the lower ring 20 of the tire is put into place in its housing of the rim and a large part of the upper ring 19
(around 85%) is also already pushed into their home. Towards the end of inflation, the bell must overcome critical resistance from the inflated tire and deviate slightly from the tire as shown in Figure 4.
By the play between the plate 6 and the wall 2, the compressed air enters between the plate and the body 1 of the bell and comes to the aid of the spring 11 to maintain the seal of the seal 15 between the rim and the plate.
Before the maximum distance between the rim 17 and the bell is reached, the tire is completely sealed and the supply of compressed air is suspended.
The wheel is completely removed from the bell and the plate 6 returns to its initial position
by creating a progressive expansion of the compressed air contained between the plate and the body of the bell.
There is almost no more pressure in the bell and the removal is therefore done without noise.
The loss of compressed air is thus also minimized. Another advantage of the invention is that the tire pressure resistance is distributed for 85% between the tire and the rim,
so that the capacity and sizing of the cylinders and other elements of the installation can be considerably reduced, resulting in lighter and more economical construction.
Of course various modifications can be made by those skilled in the art to the device which has just been described solely by way of non-limiting example without departing from the scope of the invention.
