<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>
cette partie aplatie vers son extrémité, ce premier évidement étant destiné à recevoir un maillon d'une première chaîne, un second évidement étant prévu sur le bord opposé de la partie aplatie, dans une zone de cette partie qui est située entre le bras et le premier évidement, ledit second évidement étant destiné à s'accrocher sur un maillon d'une seconde chaîne, pour faire pivoter le maillon autour d'un pivot défini par le second évidement en permettant ainsi une mise en tension de la première et de la seconde chaîne ; une chaine de,.blocage reliée à l'autre extrémité du bras et qui comporte un premier moyen d'accrochage, de préférence un crochet, permettant de fixer la chaîne de blocage sur la première ou la seconde chaîne en vue de la bloquer à l'aide du dispositif ;
<EMI ID=4.1>
<EMI ID=5.1>
<EMI ID=6.1>
<EMI ID=7.1>
<EMI ID=8.1>

2. Dans le cas où ce mouvement de
<EMI ID=12.1>
<EMI ID=13.1>

<EMI ID=15.1>
<EMI ID=16.1>

<EMI ID=18.1>
The present invention relates to a chain tensioning device. More specifically, the present invention
relates to a device for tensioning chains, comprising an arm provided with a flattened end part, a first recess formed in an edge of the end part at its free end, said first recess being arranged to come into contact with a link d '' a first chain, a second recess provided in the opposite edge of the end part, in a zone of the latter which is located between the arm and the first recess, this second recess being arranged to come into contact with the link of a second chain, so that by rotating the arm around a pivot defined by the second recess, a tension is produced on the first and second chains, a blocking chain which is connected to the other end of the arm and which includes a first attachment means,
preferably a hook arranged to allow a connection of
the locking chain with one or the other of said first and second chains in order to block them using said device, and a retaining chain which is connected to the junction zone between the arm and the end part and which has a second
<EMI ID = 1.1>
chain to allow the first recess of the end part to be moved to a new link in the first chain while maintaining a tension force between the first and the second chain.
A device of the type described above is known after the Swedish patent n [deg.] 223,476. The flattened end part: including the recesses, which can be considered as: constituting hooking elements directed in affixed directions and placed one behind the other, is formed by forging one end of a material under bar shape, [have the main part forms the arm. The extreme part of the Iras is forged so as to have essentially a shape
 n S. The end link of the restraint chain is engaged
in a hole made in the extreme part, in the area of anointing between the arm and this extreme part. This anointing zone is forged over a substantial height to resist bending stresses, because the hole reduces the resistance in the highly stressed zone. Due to the forging height, the end part is weakened laterally which can easily cause device failure under the effect of high stresses. The locking chain is attached to the other end of the arm in a similar manner, although stresses do not present any risk of sagging or breaking. One such type of bond is
quite expensive since there is a hole in the bar
and since the link connected to the hole must be engaged in the hole and closed to be finally welded.
Because the end part is provided with recesses
<EMI ID = 2.1>
substantial, one encounters the difficulty that the extreme part must present a shape essentially in S. This means that, for links of normal dimensions, it is not simple to insert the extreme part of the device
through a chain link. In this regard, it should be noted that, during the manufacture of the devices in question, the raw material consists of a bar of uniform thickness for reasons of strength and cost, this bar being forged to the desired shape, after which measures are taken to allow the fixing of the retaining chain. with the associated hook and of the locking chain with the associated hook.
The known device is therefore affected by several drawbacks relating to the shape, the resistance / the conditions of use and the cost of production.
The invention therefore aims to provide a device of a new type which allows to obtain substantial improvements over the known device while reducing or eliminating its drawbacks.
The invention therefore relates to a chain tensioning device, comprising an arm provided, at one end, with a
<EMI ID = 3.1>
this part flattened towards its end, this first recess being intended to receive a link of a first chain, a second recess being provided on the opposite edge of the flattened part, in an area of this part which is located between the arm and the first recess, said second recess being intended to be hooked on a link of a second chain, to pivot the link around a pivot defined by the second recess thus allowing a tensioning of the first and the second chain; a chain of .blockage connected to the other end of the arm and which comprises a first hooking means, preferably a hook, making it possible to fix the blocking chain on the first or the second chain in order to block it to the using the device;
and a retaining chain which is connected to the junction zone between the arm and the flattened part and which has a second hook, intended to temporarily hang in the first chain to allow movement of the first recess to a new link of the first chain while maintaining a tension force between the first and the second chain,
<EMI ID = 4.1>
provided with projections on the lateral surfaces of the flattened part, preferably closer to said first edge than to the second edge, than the link of the retaining chain
which is connected to the junction zone between the arm and the flattened part, surrounds said junction zone with play, that said chain link has a shape such that it is retained in the longitudinal direction, on one side by the arm and on the other side by the projections, the distance between the arm and the
<EMI ID = 5.1>
pivoting of the chain link with respect to the axial direction of said flattened end part.
The invention eliminates the obligation to provide for the link of the retaining chain, a hole which is placed in a highly stressed part of the device. It is therefore possible to use as a raw material a lighter bar than that which would otherwise be necessary for the manufacture of the device. In addition, it is possible to reduce the degree of forging (that is to say the forging height) in the flattened end part provided with recesses. As a result, the forging operations can be carried out using simple forging equipment while complicated forging equipment is required for the known device.
The locking chain link can be attached to the second end of the arm in a similar manner, namely
by flattening the end of the arm while creating projections on the two main surfaces of the flattened part.
The chain links used are put in place while being engaged on the corresponding flattened end part, in the zone existing between the shaft and the aforementioned projections, then the chain link is deformed so as to be retained axially by its shape in said zoned. It may be necessary to widen the link first and then bring it back to its initial free width in said zone.
In accordance with another preferred embodiment of the invention, the link connecting the retaining chain to the arm
has a C shape so that it can be easily hung
<EMI ID = 6.1>
use the device as a simple tensioning device, for example when the chain tension can be established without requiring additional restraint. If the chain tension must be maintained while the external recess, or hooking element, of the device is moved to a new chain link, it is possible to easily hook a retaining chain with hook on the arm by means of an extreme C-shaped link. When the tensioned chains are fixed by the hook of the blocking chain which is hooked in one of the chains, the retaining chain and its hook can be removed in a simple way.
The working method described last is applicable to the blocking of containers on ship decks, the device being for example left in the form of a mooring locking means. Thanks to the invention, the restraint chain and the associated hook need only be used when the mooring is under tension (and possibly also when the latter is released) and consequently, only
the arm and the locking chain must accompany the mooring during transport. The total cost of this is therefore lowered.
Without the restraint chain, the device can also be used in simpler operations, without the operator being hindered by a permanently attached restraint chain and hook.
The edge of the end part preferably comprises a third shallow recess which is formed in the junction zone existing between the end part and the arm, this third recess serving to create a pivot for the connecting link of the retaining chain. In the device according to the invention, the flattened end part can have an essentially rectangular configuration and be elongated in a direction opposite to the arm, the end part joining the arm part in an essentially symmetrical manner. The recesses can be formed by stamped parts made in the corresponding edge of this flattened rectangular end part. The height of this flattened end may be a little less than the height
<EMI ID = 7.1>
Preferably, the thickness of the flattened end parts, the cross-sectional dimension of the arm and the height of the flattened end part are roughly in the ratios 1:
<EMI ID = 8.1>
height of the flattened end portion is about 1: 4, and, the ratio of the length of the flattened end portion to its height is approximately 3: 1.

It is pointed out that the drawings are given only by way of illustration and that in order to make them more intelligible, the relative proportions have not necessarily been respected.
Fig. 1 represents two chains 1,2 which must be tensioned mutually using a device comprising an arm 3 provided with a flattened end part 4 comprising an external recess 5 intended to cooperate with a link in the first chain 1, and an internal recess 7 directed in an opposite direction so as to cooperate with a link in the chain 2. There is further provided a retaining chain 20, connected to the junction zone between the arm 3 and the end part 4, and which carries a hook 21. A blocking chain 10 is connected to the other end of the arm 3 and carries a hook 11. By pivoting the arm 3 downwards, looking at FIG. 1, mutual tension of chains 1 and 2 is ensured.
If the chain tension obtained is satisfactory * after the pivoting of the arm 3, the hook 11 of the blocking chain can be hooked for example on the chain 1, as indicated in FIG. 3, the device thus constituting a lock for the tensioned chains 1,2.
However, if the tension of the chains 1, 2 established by a single pivoting movement of the arm 3 is not satisfactory, the hook 21 of the retaining chain 20 can be hooked in the tension chain 1, and release this chain 1 of the recess 5, as shown in fig.2, then rotate the arm 3 upwards, looking at fig. 2. In the event that this movement of
<EMI ID = 12.1>
chains 1,2, another link in the chain 1 can be hooked into the external recess 5 and then pivot the arm 3 down so that the hook 21 can be released for possible new attachment.
There is shown in FIG. 4 a preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention. This figure shows that the end part 4 is formed by a simple forging of an end part of a bar, the main part of which forms the arm 3. The external 5 and internal 7 recesses can be formed by notches or stamped parts. which are created in the opposite edges 6, 8 of the flattened end portion 4. To facilitate the entry of the end portion 4chns a link in the chain 2, the edge 8 opposite the notch 5 can be rounded towards the end of the part 4. In addition, the junction between the edge 8 and the recess 7 may be constituted by a shallow curved part, in the manner indicated, in particular in order to facilitate the extraction of the end part 4 of the chain 2 (fig. 1).
The link 23 which connects the chain 20 with the junction zone 30 between the end part 4 and the arm 3 can be an entire link, the free width of which is greater than the thickness of the
<EMI ID = 13.1>
cross section of arm 3. The link 23 is retained in
the junction zone 30 by means of two projections 22 provided
on either side of the end part 4. The projections 22 are preferably placed closer to the edge 6 than to the edge 8 and they are preferably produced in the form of elongated beads oriented at an angle of about 60 [ deg.] relative to the axial direction of the arm 3. These beads 22 define the maximum pivot angle of the link 23 relative to the arm 3. A smaller recess is preferably provided
in the junction zone 30 on the edge 6 so as to define a pivot point for the link 23. FIGS. 8 and 9 a preferred embodiment of the projections 22. These are preferably formed during the forging operation of one end of the bar by which the end part 4 is given its shape. However, it is entirely possible to fix the projections 22 in a subsequent welding operation.
In a preferred embodiment, the link 23
is made in the shape of a C (fig. 7). In this way, this link 23 can be securely hooked in the junction zone 30 and it can also be detached from the latter when it is no longer necessary to use the retaining chain 20 and the associated hook 21.
The other end of the arm 3 is provided with a flattened zone 31, the flattening plane of which is parallel to
that of the extreme part 2- In addition, projections 32 are provided which are placed on the upper edge of the flattened area 30. The connecting link 43 of the blocking chain
10 associated with the device is linked by its shape to the junction zone of the flattened part 30 with the arm 3, that is to say between on one side the arm and on the other side the projections 32.
To connect the link 43 with the end of the arm 3, this link 43 can first be widened and then engaged on the flattened end portion 30 and on the projections 32 to then be deformed to its initial free width so that it surrounds the flattened part 30 with play and that it can pivot relative to the arm 3.

circular cross section and the flattened parts are produced by forging so that they are symmetrically connected to part 3 of the arm as shown in fig. 4. The notches 7 and 5 formed in the edge
flattened
narrow corresponding 8, 6 of part / 4 are preferably. made by stamping.
The width B of the flattened part (fig. 5), the diameter
<EMI ID = 15.1>
are in the ratio 1: 2: 3. The example shown corresponds to a device intended to be used for tensioning 9 mm chains, the free length and width of the links being respectively 50 and 15 millimeters. Under these conditions, the radius and the depth of the notch 5 are approximately 10 mm and the distance between the centers of the notches 5 and 7, considered in the longitudinal direction of the arm
3, is about 50 mm. In the preferred embodiment, the front outside corner of the flattened part 4 which is placed opposite the outside notch 5 is rounded. The front wall of the notch 7 is profiled in the form of a ramp having
<EMI ID = 16.1>
the radius of this ramp is located in a plane normal to the longitudinal direction of the arm, at a distance of approximately
15 mm from a corresponding normal plane passing through the center of the notch 5. Said center of curvature is also located in a plane of symmetry perpendicular to the direction of the thickness of the flattened part 4.
The distance between the centers of the notches 5, 7, measured in the longitudinal direction of the arm, is preferably
roughly equal to the free interior length of the chain links to be tensioned. It is here 50 mm. The distance between the notch 7 and the chain link 23 is slightly greater than half the distance separating the notches 5 and 7. The height H corresponds to approximately half of the free interior length of the chain links which must be stretched. Here it is 25 mm

outside corner to the middle of the junction zone 30, east
<EMI ID = 18.1>
As indicated above, the corresponding diameter or dimension of the arm 3 must be greater than the dimension of free width of the link 23. In the example described here of application to 9 mm chains, we started initially from a bar 1 22 mm in diameter.
