<EMI ID=2.1>
Method for improving the resistance of the continuous metal casting nozzles and nozzle obtained by means of this method.
The present invention relates to a method for improving the behavior of the metal continuous casting nozzles, and especially the steel continuous casting nozzles.
It is known that in the continuous casting of metals, such as for example steel, the metal produced is poured into a suitable container, called a distribution basket, out of which it flows continuously in a casting mold. , via a special outlet tube known as a nozzle. When the steel is cast in a relatively large format, the steel-air interface is protected by a melting powder and, under these conditions, throughout the casting operation, the lower end of this nozzle
dips below the level of the metal contained in the mold.
This description focuses on the nozzle
under the distribution basket, but only for
non-limiting example and it should be understood that the field
of the invention extends to all kinds of continuous casting nozzles, both those for emptying the pocket and those of the distributor basket or of the mold, whether they are in one or more pieces.
The nozzle is most often made up of a combination of refractory materials whose melting point is particularly high.
Such a nozzle must withstand not only the thermal stresses due to the temperature of the cast metal, but also to any chemical attack that may come from it,
mechanical effects due to movements of the metal bath and
erosion by cover powder generally deposited on
the upper surface of the liquid metal in the mold.
It must in addition, and this is the object of the present invention, be protected as much as possible against any clogging phenomenon, for example by non-metallic inclusions, in particular by alumina or aluminates (in the case important steels
aluminum calmed).
Clogging results in disturbing
the smooth running of the casting and affect the quality of the steel
sunk, because it requires slowing down the extraction speed, i.e.
to burn the inside of the nozzle, or to change the nozzle
or basket. At worst, it forces to definitively stop the
<EMI ID = 1.1> To the knowledge of the applicant, no really effective process has, to date, been proposed to reduce the drawback indicated above. Only injections of neutral or inert gas are known by the nozzle, which has the effect of delaying the blockage.
The present invention specifically relates to a method for improving the holding of a pouring nozzle and which
has the effect of making the plugging of said nozzle much slower and much less important, therefore reducing or eliminating the drawbacks associated therewith.
The process which is the subject of the present invention is essentially characterized in that a layer of very finely divided material is deposited on the internal face of the refractory of which the nozzle is made, intended to prevent the deposition of non-metallic inclusions on the said face thus favoring
the prolonged passage of the metal, without reduction of section due to the deposit of said inclusions.
In practice, the laying of this layer can be carried out advantageously in several ways, for example by spraying a fluid which either contains the said material in suspension or in solution (possibly colloidal in whole or in part), or is constituted by '' a liquid form of this material (for example a salt thereof), these operations are optionally followed by a drying or dehydration operation (with or without decomposition) which makes the desired material appear in the desired finely divided form . The projection can also take place dry (hot or cold), followed by possible cooking. The impregnation technique can also be advantageously used, in particular under vacuum.
According to an advantageous variant of this process, the material to be deposited on the nozzle is sprayed there in the hot or molten state, by means of a torch which may be of the plasma type.
According to an advantageous variant of the invention, the material with which the internal wall of the refractory of the nozzle is covered is mainly made up or comprises anti-

finely divided boron and possibly bound to carbon.
These products can be combined with refractory metals such as, for example, Mo or Cr, either alone or to form a cermet.
Furthermore, it is not outside the scope of the invention to compress these covering materials before filling the nozzles therewith and introducing them therein as a sleeve or insert.
In addition, these anti-wetting products will be deposited and treated so as to significantly reduce the roughness of said face, which facilitates the passage of steel and reduces the tendency to catch on and therefore clogged steel. This property is obtained by subjecting the anti-wetting products to an operation, preferably in situ, of polishing and / or surface baking and / or sintering.
