Abstract

A conventional shuttle-loom in which the shuttle is picked by pickling sticks is modified by mounting a number of weft yarn supply packages and associated tensioning devices at each side of the warp and also by providing a number of yarn guides which can be selectively actuated to feed a selected weft yarn to a modified shuttle adjacent the edge of the warp. The modified shuttle includes a recess extending along its length and in which is mounted pref. two yarn clamps whereby the selected yarn guide can be moved into the recess sso that as the shuttle passes towards the shell the yarn slides into one of the clamps. A pressed element is provided at each side of the warp to open the clamp pref. such that the end of an old weft yarn held by the clamp is fed back into the shed before being released whereby to form a false selvedge. Pref. the yarn guide and presser element are actuated by movement of the reed. The loom is simply modified to produce woven fabrics having different weft yarns.
