Abstract

New hydrocarbon-conversion catalysts, esp. for the hydrodealkylation of 7-8C alkylaromatics and the dehydrogenation of 3-5C hydrocarbons, contain Cr2O3 (esp. 15-25%) Al2O3, and 1-40 (pref. 1-20) wt. % TiO2. The catalysts are pref. prepd. by (a) adding finely divided (1 mu) calcined TiO2 hydrated TiO2 and/or a cpd. convertible to TiO2, at a suitable stage in the prepn. of hydrated Al2O3; (b) extruding the mixt.; (c) heating at 300-700 degrees C; (d) impregnating with an aqs. soln. of CrO3 and alkali metal hydroxide; (e) calcining at 500-700 degrees C in air or air/steam; and (f) calcining in H2 or H2/steam.
