Abstract

Improved process of pickling Fe or steel in HCl or H2SO4, rinsing several times, and phosphatizing using a layer-forming soln. of a phosphate, esp. Zn phosphate during the rinsing step before phosphatization, in which the aq. rinsing soln. contains alkali silicates and/or silicates of nitrogeneous organic bases, and triethanolamine may be replaced in whole or part by other aliphatic amines. The temp. may be 15-80 degrees C. Higher temps. than in the Parent Patent may be used without pptn. of Fe hydroxide.
